Awesome that makes sense to me now.
All of my music is my own CDs ripped to FLAC (with the odd album in other lossy formats) and I'm not sure I believe massively higher bit rates make an audible difference anyway, so ATM higher rates aren't relevant to me anyway.

I'm going to have a play tonight when the kids have gone to bed but on initial listening there's not a massive if any difference to my ears.

themystical what did you have as your asound.conf before when you got distortion?

The original asound.conf that came from Roobarb worked but this had distortion so I tried out the one that you use (copied from another post/thread) and this still had distortion. It was fine when the volume was about 75% but anything higher seemed to have increasing levels of distortion.
