Re: SqueezePlay OS for Joggler
worked out it IS a hardware issue, and its in the post back to supplier for replacement.
Re: SqueezePlay OS for Joggler
About the slow hard drive access, I noticed if I used a hub for a hard drive and usb stick on the external port, the performance was truly awful. I'd suggest dropping wifi and using the internal port, or installing to flash.
Re: SqueezePlay OS for Joggler
if I use a hud and usb stick and hard drive and run the OS from there, will it remember my music library settings etc on power down as it seems to lose all settings if powered down when installed to flash?
Re: SqueezePlay OS for Joggler
Thats odd..I don't use the server on flash, but I don't see how that would have any effect. Its a standard Ubuntu image. What settings is it forgetting?
Are you able to SSH in and post the output of /var/log/squeezeboxserver/server.log
?

Hi
Its forgetting my complete setup i.e. login details and any music I've scanned previously. If I power off and power on again I have to go through the whole setup again and scan my music library again
I'll ssh into it when I figure that out and post here

Re: SqueezePlay OS for Joggler
I *think* I've noticed a bug, when you setup networking after first booting SqueezeplayOS, you HAVE to chose Apply Settings & Reboot. If you chose Apply & continue, the networking settings are saved, but things like whether or not you have SSH installed are not remembered. Maybe that's the same stuff you're seeing.
So try installing to flash, setup networking, apply & reboot, then try installing the software.

@alcoheca - Sounds interesting. I wonder if that is my issue. I'll have a go.
Re: SqueezePlay OS for Joggler
I've been playing with Roobarbs squeezeplayos on the joggler for a while and in the main it's been brilliant (and makes use of two jogglers that would otherwise be without purpose) - so thanks for that
I do have a couple of weird issues; just wondered if anybody else has seen them...
Firstly - occasionally the menu selection for tracks will be one out; if you choose a track from the list it'll play the one immediately after it (even though the correct track gets the highlight for the press)
Secondly - I get 'ghost' presses on the touchscreen. It'll all be fine for hours/days then the ui will go crazy and press loads of random buttons for 20-30 seconds before settling down. I've seen this on both my jogglers; which I wasn't exepcting - the first time it happened I assumed it was a hardware fault with the touchscreen so swapped them over...
Could it be a hardware fault ? A weird environmental thing ? RF noise on the power line ? I've no idea !
Cheers,
Steve

I had this before, thought the same as you hardware fault, but then I cleaned the screen, turns out my my big greasy fingerprints were making the touchscreen go awolstevehine wrote:

Re: SqueezePlay OS for Joggler
Ok guys. Did the apply and reboot and all seems ok. Only thing now is that the joggler does not show up in the list of receivers on when trying to remotely control from a squeezebox controller or andriod app on my phone. Any ideas?
Re: SqueezePlay OS for Joggler
my mess up - squeezebox account wasnt registered.

Re: SqueezePlay OS for Joggler
I havent been using my Jogglers for a few months. I've been running PnP II but only used squeezeplay and so decided to do a clean install of Squeezeplay OS.
It brilliant! Really simple to install - many thanks to roobarb!
I have a quick question - i've been playing with the new features and noticed that mplayer is preinstalled. I have a few videos on my server that LMS has scanned - how do i get these to play on the joggler?? Is there a separate menu to access mplayer or play videos through squeezeplay?
This could be a really dumb question, but it would be great to be able to play videos occasionally

Not at all - mplayer is there... just in case.Colincliff wrote:I have a quick question - i've been playing with the new features and noticed that mplayer is preinstalled. Hi, I'm keen on experimenting with using these devices in my jogglersalcoheca wrote:Roobarb, I'd be up for setting up a build environment similar to yours. There's some patches for squeezeplay that I'd like to play with and then possibly get incorporated into your work. And of course I want to fix the WIFI issue as I've had to go back to PnP.
Maybe we could chat on IRC sometime?
Netgear WNDA3200 - they're dirt cheap dual band WIFI adaptors. The idea being that running all my jogglers on a 5Ghz network will give better synchronization & will leave the 2.4GHz band free for other devices.
edit: i just checked and they fit in fine, and have the connectors for both antennas!
The issue is compiling drivers from compat-wireless for squeezeplayos, I'll build them on one of my jogglers, but ideally they could be incorporated into the Squeezeplay build. I'm also wondering if a more recent rt2800 driver would give better wifi performance?
Re: SqueezePlay OS for Joggler
Interesting! I've just bought one from eBay, as I'd looked some time ago for a decent 5GHz adapter but couldn't find one. My only concern would be the antennae themselves; they may be useless for 5GHz, but I don't know any specs for them. They're very easily replaced, though.alcoheca wrote:Hi, I'm keen on experimenting with using these devices in my jogglersalcoheca wrote:Roobarb, I'd be up for setting up a build environment similar to yours. UPDATE: Confirmed - the antennae in the Joggler are Airgain N2420 parts, which are single-band 2.4GHz units. Here's the data sheet. They could be replaced with alternatives, or we could just see what the on-board performance of the sticks are.

Re: SqueezePlay OS for Joggler
Watch out - I just realised the tiny connectors are the opposite gender.
Just saw your reply, looks like new antennae is in order.

Re: SqueezePlay OS for Joggler
I have SqueezePlay OS running for more than two weeks now and I love it. It never let me down.
I would like to know if the hidden SSID issue is being checked (see post http://www.jogglerwiki.com/forum/viewto ... 320#p12749).
Thank you.

I'm not actively looking in to it - but then I'm not looking into anything until work calms down a bit! I will bear it in mind, although I can't promise anything. There is a network replacement component kicking around in this thread somewhere that might do the job - search for 'wicd'.hansel wrote:I have SqueezePlay OS running for more than two weeks now and I love it. Re: SqueezePlay OS for Joggler
I've tried searching but can't find a definitive answer on mounting windows shares.
I have a Windows Home Server that's running LMS and it works really well. I'd like to use the photo viewer screen saver but can't work out how to link it to the WHS share that has all my photos.
I know that LMS has scanned and found the photos but I'm surprised there's not an easy option to link this scan to the photo viewer.
