the only hackintosh disks that boot are ideneb 1.4, 1.5 & 1.6
any others just seem to hang.

Yep, I've used it since we got the rom with it in and I'm now on the latest the one with the ACPI tweaks.
I think I tried osx on the others but got nowhere at all.

My patching of inf drivers was not succesful by the way, all ended in a inf windows 8 hated, would not mind reading that guide you have mev! :P

Well guess who didn't bookmark the guide? I can't find it now. :( I tried editing the inf with no joy using guides I did find - kept saying was for an older version of windows. I tried rebooting in advanced setup mode and selecting the option that allows installing unsigned drivers. W8 didnt complain about it being unsigned, but still complained about the version. The best I found was to use a version of the driver with a setup.exe and run in w7 compatibility mode. Not tried it yet.

The f7 bios update has worked every time for me.

OK, so the iegd drivers, in compatibility mode (tried 7, vista, xp) cause a friendly bluescreen with the error SYSYTEM_THREAD_NOT_HANDLED IGDKMD32.SYS

I got a EMGD driver for a Vaio P installed, but the display resolution options are for that particular device and I just get a cropped display. I'll keep digging.

right, an EMGD driver made with Intel's software will install on the Joggler & W8 when in compatibility mode for W7. I just bashed something together really quick, just to see what would happen. The screen resoution is still wrong, so I'll need to read up. I've not used Intel's software before...I'll read the documentation before I try again. :D

Have followed this thread with interest although I must confess I don't understand most of it :-[ .
Any chance of a quick bullet point guide of how non techies like myself could get say W8 going like you have done here :-)

Cheers

The windows 8 install part is actually quite easy. The first part to get your head around is that Inaxeon's BIOS replaces your EFI, meaning that you'd need to commit to saying goodbye to the factory OS and any of the other OS that have been made to run on the Joggler. It needn't be permanent, however as you can reflash back to the original EFI later on if you are sure to make a backup.

Read the 'wiki' about un-bricking your Joggler, which details how to backup and write to the joggler's EFI chip using the factory OS and SSH. If you feel confident after that, see if Inaxeon is happy to share the coreboot.rom file outside the small test group.

Win8 runs great, I'm really impressed with it and there are fewer problems to fix than W7 :D. I'll probably pick up a cheap upgrade licence so that I can become more familiar with it on my main laptop. Not really digging 'metro' or whatever it's called, but there you go...

The emgd driver installs ok in compatibility mode and I think it just needs the right display resolution and timings.... If you're up to working on the driver, that's be great, Dan.

Dan, I've never touched the EMGD. I've put this page together which describes how I build the IEGD. I hope this will help you make an EMGD for the Joggler.

Red arrows indicate something that isn't a default setting, that needs modification. I might have missed one or two so check carefully against everything.

When you flash using F7 make sure you only have a stick and keyboard plugged in, nothing else
and that the rom is renamed to upgrade.rom.

Thanks for the how-to for the graphics driver, Inaxeon. I followed it to the letter and successfully created a Windows 7 driver for the joggler. :)

Dan, thanks for the offer to do the driver, I had free time at home today to do this. :)

https://s3.amazonaws.com/mevi_joggler/I ... ndows7.zip

EDIT: After installing the graphics driver, I am getting a friendly bluescreen of death 'page fault in nonpaged area' only when I shut down or restart. Windows seems much more sluggish with a 'proper' graphics driver, and screen redraws are slower. I have increased the size of the Page File to 2048MB with no change in behaviour. Instead of shutting down, I can select 'sleep' and wake the joggler from the keyboard - no bluescreen. I wonder if W8 doesn't like sharing graphics memory with this driver. If anyone has any further pointers?

You will need to unpack the zip file and run setup.exe - for Windows 8 installs, you will first need to right-click setup.exe, go to the compatibility tab and change compatibility to 'Windows 7". On both W7 & W8 you will get a warning that the driver hasn't been signed - install anyway.

Here is a shot of my W8 Joggler using this driver.
IMG_0168.JPG
Right-click the desktop and select 'graphics properties' and you get Intel's app. Select display settings and you can rotate the display 90, 180 & 270 degrees!! Awesome, but the touchcreen is unaware of the rotation. Mouse use only!

I've set coreboot to allocate 4 Megabytes of memory for use by the IGD. This isn't something that any drivers should attempt to adjust as it would most likely trash the shadowed CMC and the upper BIOS area, although this would more likely appear as a total lock up, the system wouldn't even be working enough to produce a blue screen.

It sure is interesting that says it's got 64MB (US15W doesn't even support that much, max is 8mb)
