The original recovery partition actually worked!

Post by offbeatdave »

Wow! Never thought I'd see the day, but I can confirm that partition 3, the recovery partition on the original stock OS does/did actually work in some circumstances!

One of my temperamental Jogglers failed this evening. I tried to reflash with the OpenPeak tool but was thwarted with a 'cannot format EFI partition' error which I'd never seen before. I then booted into my trusty Ubuntu OS, on which I have an completely clean (asks for name etc.) image of the final o2 stock OS (with the Internet Radio and App Store) and restored it to the Joggler. Following the restore, then tried to reflash straight away with the OpenPeak reflasher but still got the EFI partition cannot be formatted error so I used Ubuntu to restore again. This time I booted the Joggler into the o2 system and, instead of the final o2 software (with the Sept date etc.) I actually got the very first version, complete with the 'coming soon' greyed out icon for Internet Radio! I was then able to reflash the Joggler with the OpenPeak updater. As I have never had this version when using my image, I can only conclude that it restored from the backup partition.
"EVERY DAY I'M JOGGLERING!"
Jogglering since Dec '09;
Tinkering with Jogglers since Feb '10 thanks to PMJ, Jogtools, PnP & sqpOS;
Gave something back Feb '12 to Apr '14 with PnP Mk II & PnP III;
Finally 'completed' PnP III Apr '15!

The Jogglers are super robust, with he exception of their really delicate soldered on eMMC. Never had such luck on mine... one day they work, next they dont. :D
