Squeezeplay and Squeezeserver On Joggler

Post by eduponesarris »

Notice that there are quite a few artocles with regard to Splay and Sbox... IS it possible to put both on one machine so it "serves itslef as it were? Myself and a colleague have just carried out one of the hardware mods, I have two jogglers, one which now has an internal microsd card on the internal slot, with a wee hole cut in the side. I would like to stick squeezeplay on it and the music a Busbi 8G stick on the USB port, or alternatively, put OS and the apps and music on the microsd card. I have a TEAC reference mini HIFI that is superfluous, so I was thinking of using the power supply from that and building the Joggler into to it as a sort of cut down Brennan JB 7 with a better GUI !!

Perfectly possible. Some people have had success with the automated PnP installer on the native OS, but if you're running Ubuntu from a MicroSD card then you can just follow the install instructions from Logitech to get the server up and running. Then use SqueezePlay to connect to the server running on the local Joggler.

One possible gotcha is the USB stick and the MicroSD being connected at the same time. Depending on how they are detected on startup, you may need to change the settings in your grub.cfg file (which is used to start Ubuntu). Otherwise the Joggler may try to boot from your USB stick rather than the MicroSD (or vice-versa).

Hi,

I drop this post to confirm it is possible to have a SBserver and Play at the same time.
I have currently the folllowing set up:
- Joggler + USB hard drive + USB sound card + amplified speakers (Creative Inspire T10)+ a mouse,
- Ubuntu 10.10 (Buzz 1.9 image) + around 4000 FLAC tracks on the hard drive,
- Squeezeboxserver + SQL and Dynamic lists plug-in,
- SqueezePlay
- Weather forecast Widget (La Chaine Météo - Very good widget).

The Joggler is in the kitchen and I have a SqueezeBox Touch in the lounge.
Music is served by the Joggler for the Touch and Squeezeplay.
Squeezeplay and Squeezebox can be synchronized so that you can go from lounge to kitchen and back while listening to the same music.

Music directory is shared through Samba so that I can rip my CDs from my laptop (Vista) directly to the Joggler USB hard drive.

Everything works smoothly most of the time. My 2 remaining problems:
- from time to time, the playlist is stopped (may not be related to the Joggler itself),
- Browser-based Deezer is not usable. Joggler throttles almost immediately (it is a pity since I cannot listen to chosen albums).

Many thanks to Buzz, Roobarb! and others for the work done on the images and apps and the help I received to configure my system.

Mine is a simpler setup. I have a Joggler in the kitchen running Squeezeplay and Squeezebox Server (on Ubuntu and also on the stock image for the rare occasions I use that). The server on Ubuntu and the P'n'P version are set up identically so it doesn't matter which one is running.

The kitchen Joggler acts as a server to another one in my living room which has USB sound out to a USB soundcard with S/PDIF out to my amplifier. With Triode's Spotify plugin installed on the server it is fantastic to hear my Spotify playlists in hi-fi. A premium account is required for Spotify on the Joggler. There is a Napster plugin but I think that only works for a Windows based server, although I'd love to be proved wrong.

Hi Could you let me know if this is possible.

I want to have the squeeze server on a PC/server
Server could have multiple soundcards/outputs.
Outputs will go to multi input amp with multi zone outputs going to speakers on different floors.

Have a Joggler downstairs
Have a Joggler upstairs

Set the jogglers to act as squeezebox controllers only (not play the music out of them)
Either have them request seperate streams so that upstairs can play different to downstairs.
Or
Have them synced so they can both play the same.

At the moment i just have one joggler conencted to the squeezeserver on my pc and it plays the stream out the joggler.

Thanks

It's possible, but you would need to run two copies of Squeezeslave on the server, pointed to either audio interface. You then use SqueezePlay on the Jogglers to control the Squeezeslaves on the server. The server app itself generates no audio output of its own (except for an MP3 stream).

Squeezeslave is a little twitchy with things like the Spotify plugin though. With 'standard' audio files it's stable, though.

Ok cool i'll give that a go then. I think i'll only be using mp3s anyway so that should work.
Should be a nice little setup!
