Has everyone fiddled with the trip thingy or is it possible to watch tv comfortably without changing the heat setting? I would rather not touch that for fear of creating some type of electrical explosion!
I went through the thermal trip point thing here
viewtopic.php?f=2&t=40&p=3523#p3523
It really does supercharge the joggler and i would deffo recommend it ; i am a real novice and i managed it fine ; i do think that you might have problems with tv stuttering etc if you don't .
I can't think of anyone saying on here that the thermal trip point tweak has borked their Jogglers and i am sure many on this forum have done it ; i think it boils down to the fact that O2 were just a tad too over cautious when setting the original value .
Good luck
On sound cards ,my Behringer UCA 202 usb DAC/ headphone amp has just arrived today sounds great so far .
Thanks for the reply Hawsey. Glad to hear about the usb sound card!
How exactly do i increase the tripping point? I know the code i need to enter but can't don't get where i do this? Open something in Joli? What does 'open a terminal mean' ? Sorry...The topic link didn't work. Cheers

you can actually do it from windows - after writing the usb stick, unplug it and plug it back in. one partition should show up - there is a file in there you can edit grub.cfg - and follow the instructions from the page on the line you should add.
Success! Well, almost. I have written Joli to a stick which is currently in my jogger. I am connected to my wifi so all good so far. But where is everything? Did I need to have some kind of account set up? Where will I find xbmc and squeezeplay to download as I don't seem to have the local apps button. Instead my homescreen seems to be facebook (I'd ideally like to get rid/change this as I don't do facebook etc)
Also big question - Will I have to set everything up everytime I remove and reinsert the usb?
I haven't yet fiddled with heat trip thing - wanted to see whether it worked first. Is it ok to change that at any point?
Lots of questions I'm afraid but would be very grateful for help. Please remember that you will have to spell things out for me and avoid jargon as I have no idea most things mean! Thanks for advice and patience!
(As an aside the 4gb stick seemed to be well short of available space so I am very surprised it fit....usb was a freebie anyway so couldn't take it back )

you need a jolicloud account or you can signin with your facebook account. you can make the account here http://my.jolicloud.com/welcome and then log in with the joggler.
xbmc and squeezeplay can be added to local apps. once you have the desktop loaded (after signing in), you can click "local apps" then "add local app", and you will get a list in with xbmc and an option to install squeezeplay. you can choose them and add them and then they will appear on your local apps.
Buzz thanks for your help. I have created the account and can now the local apps button. Phew. Well done to all of you who have held my hand through this. I'm chuffed that I have managed it. Yay me (and all you).
Still can't see squeezeplay on the local apps tho and what is the Florence keyboard?
florence keyboard is the pop up keyboard when you press the "keyboard" like icon in the top right.
once on local apps, you need to still "add" squeezeplay. there is a button at the top right on the local apps page called "add local app". you can use that to get a list of apps you can add. once you add squeezeplay installer, you can then run it, it will install squeezeplay, and then you will need to go back to "add local app" to add the newly installed squeezeplauy. xbmc can also be added this way, as well as some other tools that do not appear by default.
Hmmm. That's where i thought i was - as i saw the xbmc icon and did the screen calibration. Will have another look tomorrow. However the point may be moot as i don't think joli likes me. It crashed. Black unresponsive screen while i was trying to download xbmc. Had to power off for the 2nd time. The 1st time was when it said it couldn't find the dns, whatever that is. I feel like i'm being a complete pain. Sorry....
xbmc might go black if it is updating the skin after loading. you will need to set the thermal point higher to use things like xbmc though as things will freeze/seem to lock up without.
Buzz you really are a patient saint. Screen was black for over 5 mins which is why i powered off. Is that normal? I do intend on increasing the trip thing but want to make sure joli and i are friends first. My joggler screen is normally quite hot, will increasing the trip make it hotter?
Hello again. Just a quickie to say that I have found and installed squeezeplay. Thanks for all your help!
Edit:
However all is definitely not well. Joli crashes on me. Whilst trying to download xbmc tvcatchup add on (for the 3rd time) it gave me a nice string of unhealthy looking messages and froze (again). I haven't yet changed the heat limit thing but I thought that was necessary for smoother viewing only. I don't have another 4gb usb to hand but will get another - just in case that is the problem.
The message that came up is (sorry, have to type it in!) - obviously it makes no sense whatsoever to me but might mean something to one of you - any ideas?
ACPI: no DMI BIOS year, acpe=force is required to enable ACPI

you wont really be able to use xbmc at all without the throttle setting - its really a must have unless you have a better heatsink installed on your joggler.. the messages on startup can be ignored.

Rats. 2 steps forward, 1 step back! This is sooo not my forte.
9 items show up on the usb. Is it the file with the microsoft logo called 'grub' when clicked says .cfg file, and which needs the correct programme to open it with? Don't know what programme opens it so I can't get in to edit it. The other grub file on the usb has .efi ending.
btw, those messages you saw, if you are running jolios and you see that, that means the Xserver has crashed. Normally due to buggy graphics drivers and then it is usually reboot time. it does happen, but I still get decent use out of jolios with xbmc watching videos etc. the tvcatchup addon with the tvguide is pretty slow and often doesnt work for one reason or another. Ive not tested the other tvcatchup plugin for a while - dont know if that is any better. iplayer should work ok.
Quote: Boot up the image and enter a terminal and type.
sudo nano -w /boot/grub.cfg
At the end of the line that contains "splash" add the parameter "thermal.psv=xx" where xx is the trip point you want for the passive cooling (throttling) - for example to increase the passive throttling point to 80°C use "thermal.psv=80". End Quote
Oh Christ, (that is not the word that came out of my mouth). I've broken the Joli on my usb. Did "splash" mean the word splash? where on the line should I have typed sudo blah blah blah? This is waaay over my head. I think I'll have to do without the tv. Hey, we tried tho.
