ubuntu / xubuntu 12.04 (precise pangolin)
Re: ubuntu / xubuntu 12.04 (precise pangolin)
I tried it before and it was a bit slow. not tried it yet though with latest builds.
Re: ubuntu / xubuntu 12.04 (precise pangolin)
The missing file was on the Precise base image - I've just redone my Lucid version and tried again, this time adding the joggler user to the video group (duh). Rechecked my working, rebooted... Tada!BuZz wrote:the latest xorg-emgd makes a symlink from /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/dri/ (because I made it do that), so that is strange. best thing, image up what you have and ill tell you what is missing.
Just tried some BBC content through get_iplayer and the 720p video scaled down to the 800x480 display looks really nice.

glad it has been useful. shame they forbid any further discussion about it over there. strange idea of a "forum"

Re: ubuntu / xubuntu 12.04 (precise pangolin)
Hi,
I've just updated my Xubuntu and Mint sticks to your latest images, but the icon for installing Squeezeplay doesn't work on either.
Any ideas? I presume that something it tries to download has gone?
Cheers,
Glenn

yeh. seems to have been moved. I will ask roobarb if he can symlink or something from the old location.
Re: ubuntu / xubuntu 12.04 (precise pangolin)
Done! The filename changed from sqp.sh to sqpinstall.sh. Forgot about your install icon, BuZz - sorry!BuZz wrote:yeh. seems to have been moved. I will ask roobarb if he can symlink or something from the old location.

Re: ubuntu / xubuntu 12.04 (precise pangolin)
Sorry to be a pain but it still doesn't work. Do I need to start afresh with new images? Could the failed installs have done some damage?
The Mint one seems to do nothing still, but the Xubuntu one produces screenfuls of scrolling console messages and then crashes the system.
Cheers!

Re: ubuntu / xubuntu 12.04 (precise pangolin)
hey, first off thanks to buzz for all the hard work on the images.
I decided to try a minimal install using your new ubuntu server image - everything is going ok, but i'm having problems with sound.
So far i've installed xorg openbox vlc mplayer chromium alsa-utils
When I try to play either an mp3 or an mp4 video, I get no sound and I get errors relating to alsa not being found. (see below for error when playing an mp3 through terminal)
https://dl.dropbox.com/u/3085859/error.png
I googled the error codes and found someone else having the same issue on a RPi - his fix was to run sudo chmod 777 /dev/snd/* - couldn't test this at the time, so I decided to replicate my setup on a netbook at work, and ran into the same issue (using ubuntu server 11.10) - again sudo chmod 777 /dev/snd/* fixes the issue, but it comes back every time I reboot. I tried adding this to the autostart.sh script and it doesn't work.
Then i tried aplay -l without the chmod and it said no soundcards found; sudo aplay -l finds the card.
So i added my user to the audio group: sudo usermod -a -G audio user
This fixed things on my netbook, and continued to work after reboots.
At home now i did the same on the joggler, and it's still not working.
I can run aplay -l and it finds the card, but now when running mp3's or videos in mplayer it still gives the error:
AO: [pulse] Init failed: Connection refused
Failed to initialise audio driver 'pulse'
Tried manually starting pulse start-pulseaudio-x11 (and booting with this in the autostart.sh) - this gives me no errors at all, but still no sound!
edit - i ended up uninstalling pulse and trying to use alsa again, before finally noticing, alsamixer was muted
