Joggler keeps crashing

Hi all,

I've got a Joggler running as a frontend for a Squeezebox2.

It's running 18.04.4 with nothing installed except Squeezeplay (https://birdslikewires.net/debian-for-openframe).

The OS is running from a mini USB stick.

When playing music, it seems to crash every few minutes. Maybe between 5 and 30 minutes sessions. It usually drops out to the command prompt. Sometimes it will just freeze on screen and be completely unresponsive. The Squeezebox2 keeps playing whatever it was told to play, but the Joggler is dead, and I have to reboot.

I've got another Joggler set up in exactly the same way, and that seems fine. It certainly has crashed, but nowhere near the regularity of the first one.

The Joggler seems to get fairly warm, but not what you'd describe as 'hot'.

Is there anything I can do, or is it just the sign of ageing tech that needs to be retired?

I'd give a different USB stick a whirl. They can be a bit twitchy in that regard. You can thermal-throttle the device using "thermal.psv=75" in the boot config, but I doubt that's where your issue lies.Other than that it should just keep on cruising. I have one here that's not been turned off more than a few hours in the last 7 years, though that doesn't mean it's impossible you've got something out of whack.

You could try chill's 'Jivelite for Joggler' image which I have found to be 100% reliable after having similar problems to you. You can download the internal or USB versions here: http://www.cjh.me.uk/joggler/alpha04/

I suggest you install the Openframe software to set the device back to Factory before installing the image. Development thread here: https://forums.slimdevices.com/showthre ... -a-Joggler

Basically it converts the Joggler into a big Squeezebox Touch with the option of using it as a controller or switching on Squeezeplay so you can connect a USB DAC to use it as a Transport.

Now both of my Jogglers are playing up!

Very unresponsive and crashing a lot. What's going on? They were mostly fine for a few months.

I have tried different USB sticks, but it doesn't seem to improve anything.
Although it may not fix anything, I'll try to thermal line. Do I add that somewhere using putty once the Joggler is running? Or do I add it to the USB before putting it into the Joggler?

I booted from the image that you suggested, but it couldn't find the server.
Do I have to set 'Jivelite for Joggler' up in some way?

Firstly make sure you are running LMS V8.1.2. Go to settings in Jivelite and ensure you set up networking and wifi password. You can then choose the LMS server.

I can only find 8.1.1

Where can I find 8.1.2?

Actually I would suggest using V8.2 as it includes a fix for the "not a geniume squeezebox" message and adds features like a balance control.

I installed 8.2 last night and left one Joggler running spos 3.03 and the other running Jivelite.

The Jivelite one crashed after a while, so I've now got spos 3.03 on both.

I left them running random songs over night and both seem to be working fine!!
