Apologies if this is covered elsewhere but I've searched and couldn't find anything. I thought I'd start a new thread because it might be a Squeezeplay problem, it might be a PnPIII glitch or a combination of both; I wasn't sure where it should reside.

Squeezeplay in PnPIII has started cutting to the Joggler (Openpeak) home screen after a few minutes. The music still plays but obviously I can't access any of the Squeezeplay menus anymore and can't go back to it. Opening Squeezeplay again from the home screen causes the music to stop momentarily while it reconnects and then it plays from where it left off. I've not played it for long enough in this condition to see if it bombs out to the home screen again but if I then quit Squeezeplay, some of the home screen app icons disappear, including the "screen off" and "refresh" buttons.

Has anybody else had this problem? I was hoping not to have to reflash and reinstall PnPIII - but it's looking like I might have to.

Sounds like the native interface is having difficulties with something, then dying and restarting itself over the top of SqueezePlay. It does happen - it was actually the catalyst for me ditching it and making SqueezePlay OS when I would wake up on a morning to the wrong UI!

If you're not sure what's causing it, then a zap is probably the least hassle.

I'm not looking forward to the rigmarole of setting up my LMS plugins again but I'm sure I'll be glad when it's done.

The webserver has stopped working if you haven't got some of the home screen icons. Reboot the Joggler and you should be back in business.

Just picked up my first Joggler today ! Have got it up and running with PnP3.
I've had squeezeplay running for a few hours and so far it hasn't dropped to the home screen...fingers crossed.
Probably a bit of a noob question here but is it possible to run squeezeplay as a background app as I can't seem to see any options to access other apps while it's running?
I wanted this to run as part of a multiroom system alongside a Squeezebox Touch and various squeezeplays on android tabs/pc's. The playback syncing is working perfectly so far ..so a big thanks to everyone here on the development side, you've done a great job

Glad it's working for you! Regarding the above question, have a look through the thread at http://www.jogglerwiki.com/forum/viewto ... ?f=2&t=856. The latest PnP III should have all the bits needed, but I really only had a little fiddle a while ago to be truthful.

Try jumping in at:

Then try

Code: Select all

 squeezelite -h

you should get a list of options, you might then want to try:

Code: Select all

squeezelite -d decode=debug

to check which codecs are loaded. End via CTRL-C

After that start running "for real" in background via:

Code: Select all

    squeezelite -n Squeezelite -m aa:bb:cc:dd:11:22 &

The only critical thing here is to specify a MAC address (via -m option) which is different to the native Joggler MAC, as things get very confused if they're the same (or allowed to default to being the same)!

You can then control via the Squeezeplay UI by selecting "Squeezelite" in Settings=>Choose Player

I've not had a chance to test this though on the current PnP III (v3.201)

I did reboot the Joggler after noticing the problem and being told by my kids that "Squeezeplay just does that". The problem reappeared within an hour or two, so I thought there was something more fundamentally awry. In response to your post I rebooted again and the problem hasn't manifested over the weekend, despite some fairly heavy use. Hopefully it was just a weird glitch.

Used the Joggler a bit over the weekend. Did have a few drops to homescreen but not from squeezeplay so far. Streaming to the joggler in my lounge was not very successful. The wifi reception in the joggler seems pretty weak? The squeezebox touch streams ok in same location. Anyway, popped the joggler back in the office next to my router and left it to stream a 500 song playlist which it did ok over wifi.
I've ordered up this to use in Repeater mode. Hopefully it cures my wifi blackspot

Thanks for the info and link for the router/repeater. I've just ordered one and hopefully it will enable my kids to do their homework in their rooms, where the signal is pretty weak at the moment.

I'm quite impressed with it's reception as I put it in the far corner of my lounge where my phone even tends to flip over from wifi to 3G. It's so small.
I'm using it in Repeater mode. Bridge mode also looks quite useful to provide two individual networks sharing same internet connection....so you can provide that 2nd network for guests/kids friends without them having to provide password access details.

It does look like a great piece of kit and if it works well, I might get another to use in bridge mode on my PVR (it has ethernet but no wi-fi).

I've never set up a repeater before but the instructions look fairly straightforward on the TP-Link site. I know who to call on if I get stuck

I've set up the nano router mentioned in Ricky Roma's post and it was a dawdle! The device is a steal on Amazon. It is tiny and can be used as a router, bridge, repeater etc. and comes with a micro USB cable, network cable and a USB power supply adapter rated at 1A. The adapter is superfluous if powering the device through USB but is powerful enough for a Raspberry Pi, which might save you a couple of bob if you're thinking of getting a Pi.
