SPOTIFYOS- Easy way to create forked internal memory distro?

Hi there. Apologies if this is already explained in another forum but I haven't seen it from extensive browsing.
I was really amazed that squeezeplayos was allowed to be installed on the internal memory. That is a great achievement. But I don't use squeezeplay and instead want to create my own set up.
I don't know it is best to
1. use the ubuntu base distro from
http://joggler.exotica.org.uk/ubuntu/
resize the partition to 1gb and install some programs
not sure how easy/is it possible to then to zip this up and then flash it using the birdslikewires reflashing tool and also how much space there would be after installing lbuntu graphic interface
2. use the squeezeplayos and somehow get to terminal and uninstall squeezeplay and install things i want from scratch

What I am wanting to install is the linux spotify app as I believe that to use spotify on squeezeplay you need to be a premium customer and i'm a tight-fisted git (hence hacking a £50 pc called a joggler!) and really like the radio feature on the linux app which streams similar music to an artist in 160k which is not bad when you connect it to a decent hifi via a usb external sound card with optical output (I think the radio feature is unlimited even for free customers - i might be wrong - i only recently discovered it!)
i think spotify can also play local files too - and could get an app for my phone to control it - but otherwise i would be tempted to also install vlc as can control that using my android phone and can then plug play files from my phone over wifi or external hard drive connected to joggler and control it from another location (The joggler would just be plugged in next to my hifi)
which of the two methods above is most feasible? i am basically trying to fork your operating systems and want to keep all the wonderful hard work you've done in terms of drivers particularly external sound cards etc
samba sharing and ps3 media server would be nice ideas too - i believe the joggler has a gigabit ethernet but my current ps3 media server is only 10/100 so that would be great to do.
I hope this makes sense! I would be happy to share spotifyos with others after it's all done!
i guess i could do this all using an external usb flash drive and a hub but i love the intellectual challenge of keeping costs down to a minimum. after all the joggler only cost £50 so why spend another £5-10 on an external drive? i guess it's a bit geeky but there's something appealing about getting a whizz-bang system from a very cheap price - can show off to your friends who have wasted £100s of pounds on apple products!
