Backing up

I have just got a new Joggler after several months of umming and ahing. The first thing I want to do is make a backup of the system just in case anything goes wrong.
Now I have seen http://www.jogglerwiki.com/wiki/Frequen ... _System.3F but I'm not quite sure what version of Ubuntu I need to make the backup.
Does anyone have step by step instructions on setting up the usb stick for the backup?
