parallel or serial? floppy?

I use my 2001 laptop for use with my 1980s puters.. such as with my atari 800 to send disks over serial etc.

other uses - door stop, dns server, controller thing, frisby... erm. and im sure there are others ;-)

that's cool. like it

i recently replaced the ccfl bulb in this laptop from 2006. £2 for the part. hours of hassle to get it in.. mostly putting the reflector bits back together. however. all is good and a nice hardware learning experience. new lease of life!

[edit] £2 as apposed to expensive replacement lcd

I still have an old IBM (last gen) Celeron 1.X Ghz TXX around. Runs XP/Linux OK still. I kept it cuz it was the precursor to the first Lenova's and the last of the IBM laptops. Its pretty skinny and it has a little light which you can turn on to illuminate the keyboard; in addition to having a legacy serial port on it that I use with Cisco switches/routers still. When I test some older serial RS-232 stuff it's still easier to work with this (even JTAG stuff) than it is with a virtual usb to serial device.

What is the screen size? Could always dismantle it, rotate the screen so it is on top of the keyboard, add a touch layer (stylus only unless you want to spend £££, I'm afraid), put Android on it and then mount it on a wall or a table :-)

I thought of this myself, would mount it inside the wall though, only problem is the graphics chipset is hardly compatible with anything lol

You can start to automate your home Dan or turn the laptop into a weather station (if you are into that stuff?).
