Windows Embedded or Fundamentals?.

I've tried more than a couple times each to get either Windows Embedded or Windows Fundamentals For Legacy PCs running on the Joggler.

Using what is a tried and tested method for OEM XP or Tiny XP, I've not got it booting beyond the half scrambled screen after the scrolling list of .sys files - it sits there with disk access still going for about 15-20 seconds, before settling down to no access lights at all.

I've tried both with and without the patched NTLDR, NTDETECT.COM, VGA.SYS and with and without USBOOT. Without the usual patches, it stops before the half scrambled screen. It boots fine with USBOOT in a virtual machine. The install for Fundamentals is nothing like any other version of XP I've seen.

I know Dan's tried without success, but wondered if anyone else had any success with Windows Embedded.

I dont think it likes the patched ntldr, I have not been able to get hold of a new fundamentals disk since my pc died, and its still out of action, but I think that has more of a chance than embedded.

Well Fundamentals is based on Embedded so I lumped them into the same question. It's a strange beast and I hadn't even heard of it until I found mention of it when I was hacking winbrand.dll to add custom startup & shutdown graphics to my XP Build 3. I have an ISO of Fundamentals if you want a go at getting it to boot. I'll upload it to my bucket for you.

I wonder if embedded/fundamentals has more reliance on the BIOS than regular XP? Time for some google-fu, I think.

same as you mevi, screen redraws and windows is active, but no screen thinking its the vga.sys replacement thats at fault, would probably be fine if there was a way to install the drivers

From watching this boott on the joggler, it is DEFINATLEY vga.sys causing the no display issue, going to try the usual one.

Nope seems fundamentals is a dead end, even boot ini switches do not work, tried both vga.sys patched and unpatched, sorry mate

Wasn't sure the switches work with xp on the Joggler either, I tried some weeks back. The only thing that seems to make any difference is the partition number. Even the disk number didn't seem to help when I was trying to get the xbox hddvd drive to play nice.
