Squeezebox Server and squeezeplayer on stock joggler

I have successfully installed Squeezeplayer, birds like wires version with no problem at all. However, I would like to use it as a standalone player when the computer is off by using a USB stick and squeezebox server on the Joggler
I have installed Squeezebox from Gforums, but (this is the 20th try !) the command
http://192.168.0.5:9000 does not and has not ever worked. I don't see a Squeezebox server icon and there seems to be no way to setup the server and use the library on the USB stick... any guidance please. I know there is a host of information scattered round the various forums but some contradicts, and if anyone has a simple guide to:
1. install Squeezebox Server
2. install Squeezeplayer
3. Set the squeezebox server to use a USB stick as a library,
It would be much appreciated.
Thanks
Ed

I know this may sound like an obvious question, but is
http://192.168.0.5 your Joggler's IP address?
Check your Joggler's current IP (it may change if you haven't set it as a static IP). To do this choose the Settings icon and then "Network".
When you have the current IP add ':9000!' to the end:
e.g.
http://192.168.1.xx:9000!
The exclamation mark is only needed for the initial setup and can be omitted thereafter. Visit the correct URL using your computer's browser and you should be able to set up plugins etc. I've written a lengthy post about setting up Squeezebox Server on the Joggler here -
http://bit.ly/nk7cly
Squeezebox Server doesn't install as an icon on the Joggler, it runs as a background service. You set up the server from a web client on your PC and use Squeezeplay to access internet radio and plugin services (such as BBC iPlayer, Spotify, Last FM etc.) I'm not sure about accessing files from a USB stick though - I only stream from internet radio or Spotify.
You may need to change the default player to get the server to work; if I remember correctly, in Squeezeplay you choose "Settings" => "Choose Player" and select "atom" rather than "squeezebox.com". Also, make sure you run the 'chown' command detailed in my post above and also on Plug'n'Pimp's Squeezebox Server installation page.

Tried again (the IP was 192.168.0.3)
This doesn't work
http://192.168.0.3:9000
And neither does
http://192.168.0.3:9000! - in fact this also brings up a Bong! sound and error, whereas the first just can't find the web address. If I just use
http://192.168.0.3 I can bring up the homepage as I have P&P on there, but the 9000 command has never worked for me on either joggler.
I have got it streaming again from the Squeezebox server on the pc. I removed the Logitech Media Server which is the latest download and has replced Squeezebox and went back to Squeezebox 7.6 which is working fine, apart from prompting you to update, as there does't appear to be an option to kill update auto from the SB control panel...
Regards
J

Weird! I don't know where it can be going wrong.
I've installed Squeezebox Server on 3 Jogglers (not all mine) and it has always worked like a dream.

I understand that you want to do this on the native O/S but I can tell you that I have been running both the server and Squeezeplay on the Jogger but using Ubuntu booted from a USB stick* and getting the music files files from a share on a NAS.
For some reason I didn't feel comfortable with P&P - no good reason, just a feeling.
EDIT: Just remembered - it was because the Squeeze Server available from P'n'P was quite old
* I have constructed a very discrete cable from a USB extension lead that puts the USB stick out of sight.

Just checking - have you read through the P'n'P thread here?
There's some stuff about issues with the server

Can you tell us how you access music files from a NAS in Squeezeplay? I've had a little dabble but couldn't manage to get Squeezeplay to see the files.

Not in squeezeplay, but the server just sees a directory in the file system (/mnt/NAS/Music)
THought SqueezePlay gets to see a folder of pictures for the Image Viewer screen saver

@multipex - Thanks for the info. I was trying to do this on the stock OS but it looks like it will be easier to mount a NAS share on Ubuntu.

Sorry I don't know about doing it under the native O/S
I think I remember reading that P&P can install SAMBA though, so once that's installed then it should be the same as doing it on Ubuntu which is described here;

eduponesarris, did you get squeeze server and player working? I have had PnP set up with server and player on one joggler with usb hard drive of MP3s attached all working pretty well until it crashed yesterday.
I've always had the :9000 command work for me but I do (vaguely) remember a few things you might need to try.
-PnP needed player installed before server (or vice versa)
-PnP includes another file that needs to be installed before server - might been Samba mentioned above?
-There is a 'force install' button somewhere that I used before things would work properly.
-The location of the music files is set inside the :9000 settings facility.
-The software needs a mod to ensure squeezeserver is delayed on startup to let the usb drive mount.
I want to load Roobarbs version as I feel it is probably more stable but I need to know that the last point above has been dealt with in his version. I've just PMd him to ask as it happens.
EDIT.
Realise I may be confusing myself here - Roobarbs version is the Player not the Server so perhaps it doesn't need to have the time delay tweak at all! Its the server that does and that comes from PnP! oh dear.
Any help?

Multiplex,
How is the ubuntu + squeezeserver holding up?
I'm getting sick of my pnp squeeze/slim server losing music files and being unreliable, usually when my wife is trying to use it after I sold her the idea of a completely digital (no cd) music system. I've changed to the birdlike wires squeezeplay which runs well, so I think its the server causing issues.
Won't need much for me to dump the o2 interface andthe pnp version of server and go the ubuntu + squeezeserver + squeeze player route. Can anyone point me at a thread telling me how to do it? Step By step?
EDIT: Here it is...

I did a ubuntu install ages ago but don't have the files to hand anymore, or instructions.
Thanks
