The search facility didn't really give me the answer to this. I'm looking to use one of my jogglers as bedside clock radio and would like to know how best to achieve this and which OS to use?

Ideally the following should be available:

Standby clock with a dimmer
Alarm which works with standard tones and internet radio
Multiple alarms

I'm quite surprised that no body has this use for the joggler.

Due to the vagaries of ISP outages, web site down-time and potential networking problems, I think it might be risky to rely on the Joggler as an internet radio alarm.

The stock OS has an alarm I believe, but not a radio one. You might not even need network connectivity for this function (at least after boot up). I think the Joggler sets its clock on boot up and after that will keep time even if your router is switched off, but I'll check this out over the weekend.

The stock OS has dimming after a certain period of inactivity, unless you have disabled this. I think you can also change the screen brightness by holding your finger on the clock screen until the brightness control appears. I disabled dimming because it interfered with other apps that needed constant brightness (iPlayer mainly).

SqueezePlay has an alarm option; I've used it, but I would never completely trust it for the reasons mentioned by gegs!

Stock OS is just as unreliable as I had to Power cycle my joggler each night to make sure the sound worked even with the Open Peak Alarm clock!! So.... I switched to an Android install using "Clock" app which has a clock screen saver mode which is just about DIM enough for me. I needed to create a folder on my usb stick called alarm and then copied the alarm sounds into it before it would find any to use though! other than that it works Ok as my primary Alarm, backed up by my phone 5mins later just in case

The O2 alarm can play mp3 streams, mine plays Kerrang radio

You need to edit the file And change one of the lines to point to an mp3 stream

I've turned one Joggler into a bedside alarm clock of sorts. Doing similiar whether running Linux, Android or XP. I'm not really graphics or color coordinated but the alarm clock radio screen is a mixture of flash, elements with just graphics or elements running VB scripts polling variables across the network. The radio piece is using VLC for internet streaming. The DIM and Bright buttons are for the Joggler. Adding a screen off button to the mix on the side.
