Hi everyone,
I remember a post from a long time ago that explains how to make squeezeplay boot automatically when you turn on the joggler and its bypass's / doesnt boot the joggler system or gui, only squeezeplay.
But now I cant find it....it must have been on the old forum?
Also, did the problem of squeezeplay stop working after a few hours and needing a hard reset get fixed? Im not sure whos squeezeplay I should get? Ive got a usb soundcard im going to be using if that makes a difference?
Thanks

All the versions of SqueezePlay need either Ubuntu or the native OS underneath to work, but autoloading on both is easy. There's an option given on installation on my Ubuntu version, or you follow
these details on the SqueezePlay thread to autoload on the native OS.
The default install of SqueezePlay no longer has the problem of the audio freezing up. Unfortunately, the only way to fix this was to allow SqueezePlay to be in sole control of the audio system - so there's no audio from other applications available while SqueezePlay is running. Not a great loss IMHO, as SqueezePlay is designed to 'take over' rather than multitask. It is a shame the mixer wouldn't stay alive, though.
The
version I put together is used on every installation now, although if you install it through the PnP installer you actually get an older version (just because the author of PnP is a busy fella).

Thanks roobarb for the links. Looking everywhere for that bit of info. Although it seems different to what I remember reading. I remember talking about disabling the jogglers ui and have it autoboot into squeezeplay rather than just having it on a timed load. The joggler ui/system had a name.......I cant remember what it was though.

I'd like to do this too; to turn one of my jogglers into a Squeezeplay only device. What's the best option between Ubuntu or Native OS for the best stability?

Don't know about running Squeezeplay under Ubuntu but native O2 OS with Squeezeplay runs stable. I use my Joggler for 99% Squeezeplay. I have been using squeezeplayer from P'n'P. Occasionally my button clicks (the sound) were lost. Currently I'm using a more up to date version of Squeezplay, from birdslikewires.co.uk. Never had any problems so far.

Well I have the P'n'P version and have always had problems with lockups when leaving Squeezeplay on overnight. Is your joggler wired or wireless? I know there was a big effort made to look into why this happened. Did anyone ever get to the bottom of it?

Another vote for the
Birds Like Wires install on the native O/S - works beautifully for me, I've not bothered to auto start it though.
I use the
Picture Gallery plugin to have the Joggler act as a Photo Frame when it is idle - that also works great

If I install over the P'n'P version will I have any problems?

I *think* that the BLW install script detects it and works it all out but I expect that roobarb! will confirm...

As far as I remember, the PnP version just piggybacks some things on to my scripts, so I think everything is installed into the same locations. If you want to be safe, download and use the script from my website, then use the remove option to get rid of the modified version. It will keep your settings (unless you use the 'purge' option). The just use 'install' to pop the latest version on there.
The only issue I'm really having these days is about once a week SqueezePlay will drop out and leave me with a blank screen; this only happens on the native OS, and doesn't seem to happen on every Joggler. Tapping the icon a couple of time reloads it, but thought I'd better mention it in case you have plans to use it as an alarm.

No plans on using the Alarm, I just want something I can leave on so my Wife can use it and not find that it's crashed or has no sound. Thanks for your reply and all the time you've put into working on this project.

If reliability is your goal, definitely run it on Ubuntu or Joli OS. I run Joli OS on the one in my kitchen and it performs perfectly.
Mind you, having said that, it's not like the native one is exactly unstable.

Thanks. I'll try installing your version. I tested the PnP version again overnight and the joggler was frozen by the morning.

I can report that the birdslikewires version has been running on the nativeOS for a couple of days without any problems. Thanks roobarb!! Works really well with the Squeezebox iPhone app too.
