Getting v. confused with LMS, Squeezebox, Spotify etc.

HI all,
I thought I had a handle on how to set the joggler up with the Triode Spotify plug in. But once again I'm confused as to what the sequence of steps to set things up properly is.
Having just reflashed a Joggler to SqPOS I had my laptop running which has LMS on it and I could find and use Spotify no problem on the Joggler.
However, on shutting the Laptop down Spotify disappered. No problem I thought, I'll just install and run LMS on the Joggler itself and then install the Spotify plug in.
Is my logic OK so far?
I ask as I have since been unable to work out why it is that Spotify refuses to appear in the apps list.
When I make changes to settings in LMS it is stopping and restarting the LMS on my PC, but takes ages to read in info like which plugins are installed as though it is talking to the Joggler LMS.
I'm thoroughly confused now and don't even ask me about my squeezebox .com I have no idea how that comes into the picture (or doesn't perhaps).
If there's an idiot's guide to setting up from scratch to enable a standalone Joggler to use Spotify I'd be very grateful for being pointed to it.
I don't have a NAS and probably won't ever have one. I do have some music on a hard drive which I suppose I could connect to the Joggler. That should be easy enough to do though?

Welcome to the club,
1, stop lms from starting on the laptop.
2, connect a non powered USB hub to the switched of Joggler.
3, reflash the Joggler with the Openpeak image from B-on-W.
4, load the EXTERNAL image of SqPos onto a USB 2 stick,16gb is good.
5, resize the USB stick (this gives plenty of room when upgrading LMS)
6, put the stick in the hub, the hub in the Joggler and switch on.
7, stand well back.
8, when all is loaded, complete your settings on the LMS page, make sure you have a Premium Spotify account and fill in this info.
9, connect hard disk with music to USB hub and point LMS to the music folder via the system tree that appears when starting LMS
When inputting settings for LMS, use the restart facility via Squeezeplay. or SSH via putty.
This is a bit bare bones but should get you going, you will not need LMS running on the laptop when you have finished. install squeezeplay if you want to control the joggler with the laptop. It is also possible to put SqPos on the external hard disk, but maybe get things going first and then play further.

Whichever server you have Spotify installed on, make sure that the Joggler is connecting to it. The easiest way to do this is Settings > Choose Player. Choose the player on the Joggler and it should then show which LMS servers are running on your network; choose the one you have Spotify installed on and it should then show in your list of apps.
If you have more than one instance of Squeezeplay running, give them identifiable names, for instance I have players called lounge, kitchen, laptop and server; 'server' is the name of the player I also have LMS installed on (as a reminder.)

Wow, I didn't think it was possible, but now I'm more confused. I didn't realise there was a choose player option. I thought the Joggler was the player? When I switch to what I think should be the correct player I receive an error message that I need to configure it using LMS server settings>mysqueezebox.com.
Should each joggler not be only on eplayer? how do I delete the additional one?
However, having now disabled the LMS on my laptop, when I open 127.0.0.1:9000 I am unable to see the player in question and hence can't set any attributes.
I'm connected by wire to the same router as the joggler is wired to.

Ahhhh!, I changed 127.0.0.1 to Joggler's assigned IP. That seems to have helped!

If you have installed SqPOS on the Joggler (either internal or external) go to
Settings>Advanced>Additional Features>Logitech Media Server>install
(this will also give the IP address for the LMS and Joggler).
If you want to use the audio out on the Joggler you have to select Squeezeplay as player.
Do you have a "Mysqueezebox.com" account?
If not get one, it's not really necessary but is handy.

OK, progress. I have now instaled the 3rd party Triode Spotify plug in to the player with the name I want to use. However, on MySqueezeBox.com the player I'm working with does not appear, so I can't add other apps as I'd like.
On the web interface I can only see the player I'm working with, not the other one I was surprised to find. As a result I can't add the Spotify app to this one and change the name.
It's this inconsistency of connection availability that is confusing. Why can I see it in one place and not the other?

On the Joggler; make sure the details for your 'MySqueezebox.com' are filled in correctly on the appropriate settings page at .....:9000.
Then restart the Joggler (or just LMS) also restart your computer and then try 'MySqueezebox.com' to see if your player is registered. It sometimes takes a bit of time.
Are you planning to use the Joggler only as a server for LMS or as a server and player?

The Triode plugin doesn't show on mysqueezebox.com because it's not an official plugin, it's a third party plugin that needs to be run from your own Logitech Media Server, whether on your laptop or your Joggler. The official mysqueezebox.com Spotify plugin doesn't work on the Joggler, only real Squeezebox hardware.
Install LMS on your Joggler as per Man in a Van's instructions above. Now visit joggler_IP_address:9000 in a web browser on your computer. Obviously you replace 'joggler_IP_address' with your actual Joggler IP which you can see if you visit Settings > Network on your Joggler - it appears near the top of the screen.
Install the plugins you want (choose Settings in the bottom right corner of the web interface, choose the Plugins tab on the next screen, scroll to the bottom and choose 'Show all 3rd party plugins.)
Make sure you agree to the terms for the Spotify addon and enter you Spotify Premium username and password.
Restart the server on the Joggler which can be done by choosing Quit > Reboot on the Joggler itself.
Your Spotify addon should have an orange logo (not the green official Spotify one) and should be in My Apps. If you hold your finger over it a dialogue will appear that allows you to add it to the home screen.

As per
gegs, the Apps on 'Mysqueezebox.com' are selected from the App gallery and are not quite the same as the Plugins.
you should be soon good to go

Well not yet. The situation is unchanged. I can access the player I want and have installed the triode spotify plugin, great.
However, usnig the MySqueezeBox.com I'm still unable to see the player and hence still unable to install any other apps.
I can see the other player that is on the joggler at mysqueezebox.com and it has the apps I want on it, however I can't see this player under server settings at ip:9000 so I'm unable to install the triode spotify plugin.
I've registered the players through the dialogue on the joggler but still no luck.

OK, it gets weirer. The player whose presence I was previously unaware of has now had its name changed back to Squeezeplayer. However on MySqueezeBox.com it claims the player with the original name is still connected and I still can't see theplayer I actually want to use.

Try this, on the Squeezeplayer Home Page go to Settings>Registration and Settings and complete the registration for 'Mysqueezebox.com'
Reboot the Joggler and (if you have any say favourites stored on 'Mysqueezebox.com' connect and play).
I have just done this with a Joggler and a Squeezebox Radio and they are both playing Radio Paradise using the 'Mysqueezebox.com' server.
But when I log on to 'Mysqueezebox.com' and go to 'Players' neither are shown as connected and if I click on 'Remote Control' neither are shown there either.
Why this is, I have absolutely no idea as I use a local server 99% of the time ( the Joggler is used as a server only).
I don't understand how you have two players on the one Joggler (or do you mean one Squeezeplay on the Joggler and one on the computer?

I'm going down the rabbit hole now. At your suggestion to register it I thought, no point already done it several times. However, on looking in there I found the now named 'Squeezeplayer' was registered to some unknown email address. Changed it to my info and cam out to settings. Now Under choose player I see 3 (yes three) players! I had changed the name of the squeezeplayer to something differnet and that hasn't taken and the old player name that was there originally is there now as well as the one I¨'m actually wanting.
Good grief.

OK one relaunch later and I seem to back to where I was a long time ago. Just the two players to choose from. the original and the one I'm trying to work with. Same story, I have triode spotify on the one I want, apps on the one I don't and no way to add apps to the one with spotify or spotify to the one with apps.

I still don't get the two players part but as a last resort I suggest:
Log in to Mysqueezebox.com and delete all the listed players.
Go back to a complete re-install of the Joggler (put Openpeak on first and then SqPos).
Using what you know from previous hacking (it's the only way many of us have learnt how to do any of the rudimentary stuff), configure the Joggler Squeezeplay and then install and configure LMS.
I know it's tedious to go back and start again but it has worked for me, many, many times.

Well!! as I live and learn, just a web search and came up with this;
http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthrea ... Squeezebox
Post number two has the answer
but on the SBS web ui just go to Extras > Music Source > mysqueezebox.com.
.
I did this, selected Radio from the drop down in the upper right corner, clicked on "connect to Mysqueezebox.com" and then logged into Mysqueezebox.com and there listed are all the players, but only one in the Remote control panel.
I repeated the operation and choose Joggler in the web GUI and that shows too in the Remote control panel.
Hope you read this before doing the suggested re-install

Hi
I have been having similar issues where different apps seem to work one time, then not the next. I was going to follow the instructions and advice here, but wondering what Man In a Van meant on point 4 of the original reply. Is this to make the image take the whole space of the memory stick, and if so is there a site which would explain how to do this?
Cheers
