Hi All

I have been suffering from poor wireless performance with the joggler - especially when running network intensive apps such as mythtv (which is all that my joggler is used for!)

I noticed that the wireless card was doing a scan for networks every 2 mins (output from iwevent) and this tallied with my performance issues.

After reading though this bug thread :- (go to the bottom first!)

I found that I needed to set the BSIDD to the MAC of my access point which stops the background network scan..

I now have rock solid wireless performance, with no nasty drop outs!

Thanks very much for this, I'll be trying it out as soon as I get home.

This could be very beneficial for me because my Ubuntu distro is on a portable hard drive and I stream video from the Joggler to my Apple TV2. Anything that stabilises wi-fi is a big bonus (especially since I only have a G router).

Wi-fi is good but I'm not sure how much better it is. Most of the time in Ubuntu I'm using XBMC, which has variable performance with or without good wi-fi, making it harder to judge. The Joggler doesn't connect automatically for me now (even though I've ticked that option) so I have to reconnect manually after each re-boot.

After longer testing I think wi-fi is more solid using manesh's method. I'm getting more solid and reliable performance from Squeezeplay on Ubuntu in particular (I don't know if the network re-scan problem applies to distros other than Ubuntu).

I still have to connect manually on re-boot but it's becoming habitual now and it's a small price to pay for the wi-fi improvement I'm getting.

Where do I find the BSSID? I've tried imputting the MAC address of my router taken from the router page but then the joggler can't access the wifi at all.

Any help much appreciated.

The wifi sometimes shows full and then drops off so I'm assuming this is related to the scanning issue?

Click on the link in Manesh's first post then scroll to the very bottom of the page. The last post on the page tells you how to obtain the BSSID.

Is that terminal from the device iteself as I have a windows machine.

How do I access terminal from the device itself? Or is the only way to SSH using Putty on windows?

My earlier post mentions Ubuntu and my comments relate to that; run the commands from a terminal on Ubuntu. It helped wi-fi stability on my distro but I haven't bothered since changing to Ubuntu Natty because wi-fi has been fine since then, although the changes might still be beneficial for some people.

On the stock OS I updated the wi-fi drivers from Plug'n'Pimp, but I haven't made any other changes to the wi-fi setup.
