Process for bootstrapping a system for Joggler

Hi,
I know there are several Linux distributions like Mint, SqueezePlay OS, etc. for the joggler, but I wondered if there was any information as to how these were created? I'd like to setup my own kernel and system and try to get it boot on the Joggler but I'm not sure how to go about it. I've already tried a custom kernel but that resulted in a hang at the initrd screen.
