Ubuntu 11.04 : Panning the display?

Hey guys,
After tinkering with Android 2,2 for a bit I thought id try ubuntu instead.. tbh Im tired at the amount of android apps which dont work cause of the lack of NDK...
Anyway I digress...
Some dialog boxes go below the bottom of the screen , looking at the https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Config/Resolution URL I notice that X11 has a "panning" mode.. but I cant get it to work on the joggler... any one know how to get it working?
