That's the hub that a few of us here use. Be aware though that only port 4 of any hub will boot with Eric's bootloader - that's the one furthest from the end socket. You'll also need to either copy the contents of WITHHUB folder to the root of the EFI partition, or run the .cmd to do the same... I recall someone not being able to run the .cmd to copy the files unless in administrator mode, so maybe just copy the files and click OK if windows complains about anything.
Ok!I 'll order one.Thank you for everything!

Hi All
I am andrew from the uk great to meet you all. No introduction thread !!
At the moment i am trying this on a 32gig san disk cruzer blade usb drive to see if it works ok.
Have also tried this on a usb powered HDD and flies fastest XP machine i ever had.
With the usb hub described earlier on is there enough power to power usb HDD to boot from it.
Anyway excellent work with this xp on a joggler.
Many Thanks
Andrew

Great that you had success with XP.

With an unpowered hub like that Trust one, you're unlikely to get enough juice to run a HDD... cable length & quality also is a factor. Powered hubs are a bit hit and miss as cheaper (and not so cheap) hubs send power back into the Joggler and light up the screen even when the Joggler is powered off. I don't imagine that this is healthy for the Joggler although it didn't cause any harm for the short time I did it. I had the same result when I powered a 2.5" HDD caddy externally.

Hi Mevi
Thanks for the reply. Well it looks like i need more usb ports one to boot Xp and 3 more for keyboard + mouse one spare
for other things. So it seams to be some hardware hacks to do it. And have only one joggler i dont want to break it :(
Unless there's any other way which i dont know about yet !!
Many Thanks
Andrew

P.S
I would like to keep XP because i trust it more + i know XP more than linux

UPDATE
Well i got all working now i used the withhub cmd and extra power was needed there was not enough power to power usb HDD :(

There's another USB socket on the inside which has the WIFI adapter.... that supplies enough juice to power a HDD although you'd need to find a way of getting a USB cable out of the Joggler (a drill :D). Depending on whether the Ethernet on your particular Joggler works with XP, you might need the WIFI, but I thought i'd offer that suggestion. There's only 4 screws holding the case together and if you go that route you could plug the WIFI into the hub instead.

Someone might know if a 1.8" HDD or SSD in a caddy has lower power requirements.

The 1/2 sized USB IDE drives, SSD USB and 1.8" ZIF/USB drives are OK with power from the USB port.

The USB SSD drive (Kingspec) gets a bit warm after a while.

Use a plastic credit card to open the case after your remove the screws; starting from the bottom of the case and work on both side slowly and carefully using the credit card.

Hi Mevi
Thanks for the suggestion about changing usb stuff. Got to have wifi ethernet cable would be to long. Also does this version of XP need any anti virus. I have also managed to get external power to usb HDD to 3volt. I think the first mod is going to make it run cooler with a fan.
Many Thanks
Andrew

I've got an XP Joggler running 24/7 which doesn't get warm. Not sure if a fan is gonna be a must-have although they really go for it on the Chinese HiPDA forum.

This XP build doesn't have an antivirus installed but it reports itself as genuine so you'll be able to use microsoft security essentials which is pretty lightweight compared to others.

Hi All
Got it all running now from a 3.5inch sata HDD in an enclosure looks more like a mini pc now :D and found a cpu temp program. Mevi you were right about not needing a fan the highest temp was 52 nearly ground it to a halt running 6 programs at once :D
At present no hardware mods needed well for now anyway
Posted from the joggler :D
Many Thanks

Here when hot swapping the memory I was concerned about removing the heat shield for a new minutes. It never did get that warm doing that.

Yeah, looks like the downloads are not working right now.... Minus, the file hosting site I use has been working fine for months and months, so perhaps it's a problem at their end - the server times out. I can log in and see my files there, so perhaps try in a day or two.

Let's keep an eye on it as I can find a new host if this one keeps acting up.

Well I made one for the Chinese forum (Thank you Google Translate), but it was a big bloated disaster with huge Chinese multi language packs.... it let out a wimper and died just as I was about to release it. I lost my Joggler mojo that day, I think. :D

As for the version we have here, I'm quite happy with it and have no plans to update it. If I were to do anything more with it, I'd actually take out some of the stuff I put in last time, like the download manager, etc. and leave things up to the end user as to what they want to do with it. I made quite a few assumptions when I put it together. Then it's just any Windows Updates since the end of 2011.

The Joggler Wiki has instructions for making a Windows XP for Joggler from scratch. Or even if you wanted to use my build as the base for your own release, it's all good.

More recently, when I can tear myself away from my music, the majority of my Joggling has been testing W7 & W8 using the Coreboot/SeaBIOS by Inaxeon. Thats's the future! When you have some free time to spare, have a read through that thread as you might be inspired. :)

Hi Mevi
Thanks for the reply. I will be using your XP build and add/remove program's to get the way i would like then clone on to spare flash/HDD drive as a back up. At the moment that's all i can do been a newbie :) have to try some games as well :D If some people are using XP then get rid of the big wifi dongle and get a micro usb wifi dongle that would free up some room for other stuff.
Many Thank's
Andrew

We were all newbies once. :D

ccleaner on the build has a quicker uninstaller which might speed up the process. Good idea about the mini WIFI dongle. Also allows you to move it out of the case to the hub, freeing up the internal port for a HDD (keep that drill handy). Our WIFI needs at home saturate our poor old sky/netgear router, so the 2 Jogglers that have a working NIC with XP are cabled up. At some point I'll move them both over to SeaBIOS along with the other 3.

Hi all.

I have a slight issue at the moment and was wondering if anyone can help.

I bought myself a joggler today. I'm wanting to use this xp build. As this joggler is my only computer, I have no way to mount images, as my only other computer access is the local library, and obviously I cant install an image burner there.

Does anyone have any advice? I guess one solution could be to get someone on the forum to setup the memory stick for me and post it, if I pay costs involved in doing so.

I'm sure you've done your homework, so forgive me for going over any of this again. If you are planning to use a Joggler as your main PC, you'll need a hub (use port 4 for the USB stick), keyboard and mouse, although you might be able to skip the mouse for the touchscreen & look up the keyboard shortcuts for XP. I'm happy to say that this build is quite robust so should serve you well. If you have a smartphone, you might be able to use it as a keyboard & mouse combo over WIFI. There's an IOS app called HippoRemote Lite, for example.

XP's responsiveness won't set the world alight on a USB stick so choose a quick one, but will be your only option with a hub unless you're OK to open it up. There is the other USB port inside if you don't need WIFI. The Ethernet port may or may not work with XP... it's a lottery I'm afraid.

I've done my homework so I know everything I need. My only issue is how to get a os image sorted with no real computer access.
