Anyone ever tried minus.com? claims 2gb file size limit and free 50gb of storage, and unlimited downloads!

What is it a usb sound card? If so try and and plug in the device after boot, IE; when windows is sitting at the desktop, let it install then reboot.

Usbaudio.sys can be found on any windows xp install disc, or you could probably find one on the net.

I've added a download link to DRIVERS.CAB from the xp sp3 disk to post #1. Put that in windows\system32\drivers and browse to that folder when prompted to supply usbaudio.sys, etc.

Any chance of a link to the new file? Tried several times over the last couple of days and it just says all slots in use.

Thanks

For anyone that is struggling to download from File Factory, I am uploading the files to Minus.com and will post new links later on this evening.

All the downloads mentioned in post #1 have been moved over to minus.com. I've had quicker downloads from them compared to my S3 bucket..... plus it's free so no nasty surprises when I get my monthly bill from Amazon! :D

hi mevi,

great xp build, got it up an running and using wifi.

Only thing is its quite slow running from usb, so i've looked at the partition wizard tool included on the image and it shows 4gb free on the first disk. Is it possible to install this on the joggler hard drive itself?

cheers

4GB free? By default in the image, there are only 2 partitions: a 200MB Fat32 and a 2.8GB NTFS with about 1/2 a gig free space. Maybe when you made your USB drive you increased the partition sizes to fill the drive? :) If that's the case, keep the first efi partition at 200MB and the rest of the drive can be filled With the NTFS partition. You might, however find it more useful on a flash stick to increase the size of the EFI partition to fill the disk and store your media in that. On a regular PC, you won't be able to see the 2nd partition.

XP in this build is too big to fit on the 1GB internal flash and I would advise against putting XP on the fragile eMMC flash. Some have tried doing that with some success and said it was reeeeeeaaaaly slow.

As for performance, I exchanged a couple of PMs with a user who was having disappointing performance wiTh a flash stick. I told him that XP is heavy on small file writes and thrashes the page file, flash drives are quicker with large file writes and slow to a crawl with small files. A HDD will give the best results and my full-time Jogglers have this build in both a media server and a torrent box... 5400RPM drives in generic enclosures, nothing flashy. I use a big hair band stretched across the metal stand and cradle the disk in that to keep it tidy.

hi mevi,

thank you for your efforts in this field. i followed your instructions using a hub (the files within the withhub directory copied to root of the flash drive), tried 2 different usb hubs, but the flash drive doesn´t boot xp when using a hub.

any idea?

Some hubs can be finicky about what port they boot from, did you try all ports on the hub?

only 1 of 11 ports does work. many thanks for that.

but now i have an issue with my external soundcard. i want to install the drivers for the usb soundcard with asio (because i´d like to use it with foobar). it is recognzed only as a generic usb card. do i miss something here?

Some Jogglers may not start the NIC device (error 10). Unsure why, but I have one Joggler that reports the same hardware as the other, but no NIC. WIFI works and USB to Ethernet adaptors are really cheap and the Belkin one I have works well on a hub with a usb stick. We suspect this is a NIC firmware issue that affects some Jogglers.
too bad. i do have one of these jogglers not starting the NIC under XP. i do really need gigabit ethernet. unfortunately there is no foobar for linux. the belkin adaptor provides ethernet conversion, but will never perform like the real thing, no to mention the bandwith sharing on the usb hub. pity!
