Can someone tell me how to install cron, so that I can schedule overnight reboots?

Although I hate to use a solution like this, a regular reboot does seem to make my system more stable. One issue that is definitely fixed by rebooting is the client players failing top connect to the LMS. I don't have the time or energy needed to diagnose the root cause so am happy to try a sledgehammer, reboot, approach.

Presumably, I just need to download crond from somewhere and then put it into init.d or something?

Secondly - I get 'ghost' presses on the touchscreen. It'll all be fine for hours/days then the ui will go crazy and press loads of random buttons for 20-30 seconds before settling down. I've seen this on both my jogglers; which I wasn't exepcting - the first time it happened I assumed it was a hardware fault with the touchscreen so swapped them over...

Could it be a hardware fault ? A weird environmental thing ? RF noise on the power line ? I've no idea !

Cheers,

I had this before, thought the same as you hardware fault, but then I cleaned the screen, turns out my my big greasy fingerprints were making the touchscreen go awol :)
like stevehine, my touchscreen behaves the same, although I have cleaned the screen with a glasses cloth, the same behaviour occurs. I started a thread in July 2012 referring to this here http://www.jogglerwiki.com/forum/viewto ... ?f=2&t=658

Initially I thought the reason for this were flies on my screen, but it appears to be software related, because I did not notice that on other OSes I´ve installed on the joggler already.

Is there a software way to test the touchscreen? Is there a way to calibrate the touchscreen for Squeezeplay OS again?

@ Roobarb, is it possible that the Squeezeplay OS touchscreen implementation is the culprit?

If you're using SqueezePlay OS, which is what this thread is about, then cron is already built in. Take a peek in /etc and all will be revealed.

If you're using the native OS, you could just write yourself a script that looped around, waiting until it was 3am to reboot. :)

Roobarb!, just wanted to thank you for this. At last I've found time to install it on my final joggler. I've got it reading my music usb (after many a trial and error as lms can be very flakey) and all seems great. Thanks!

EDIT: Oh my. Absolutely Brilliant!

I've re-installed SqueezePlay OS on my living room Joggler (which uses Squeezeplay exclusively and is attached to my hi-fi). My previous install was knackered when my kids mistakenly unplugged the USB hub it was attached to without powering down; it wouldn't boot after that.

Since my last install the Airplay server has been added and I've won an iPad (hooray!) so I thought I'd try out its capabilities. I have installed the Airplay server, restarted the Joggler and then enabled the server. Unfortunately, the Joggler isn't visible as an Airplay device from my iPad, so I can't stream to it. The only device I can connect to is my Apple TV. Any ideas what might be the problem?

Do you have a pc/mac with iTunes. Might be worth seeing if it's available as a speaker from iTunes. Not got an iPad but where are you trying to select the joggler airplay from on your iPad? Airplay on the Apple tv can be used for video as well as music so just wondering if it's looking for video capable devices, I presume the iPad music player will have an option to select local playback or airplay when playing like iTunes does.

what do you see in your ipad´s multitasking dock? is there an airplay button? if yes and if you can only tap your apple tv from there, simply try rebooting your squeezeplay os and have a look if the airplay service is started properly again on your joggler.

I've tried that. The only Airplay devices available to me are my iPad itself and the Apple TV. If I load up XBMC on the ATV2 I can also see XBMC as an available device (if I enable Airplay in the settings). The only thing that doesn't show up is the Joggler. I'm going to reflash the stick and try again this evening; hopefully I'll have better luck.

---EDIT---
Just a thought: Would it affect Airplay if I was connected to LMS running on another Joggler?

Huh, weird. No, being connected to LMS, having LMS installed; there's nothing that should affect AirPlay running. Have you given your Joggler a name other than the default in Settings > Squeezebox Name. If you haven't, try it and reboot. If you have, have you added any odd characters into it? Shairport uses the SqueezePlay config files to name itself, so maybe there's something odd happening there.

I renamed the joggler in SqueezePlay and rebooted. Still no joy, unfortunately. The iPad still doesn't recognise it as as AirPlay device.

Hello. I've been listening to music sync'ed between 2 jogglers. It seems to repeatedly stop playing on both jogglers, mostly just a short pause but occasionally doesn't come back at all and I need to restart the track. Is there something I need do to prevent this? I don't have this problem when the jogglers are running independently, just when synchronised. Ta.

Re: my previous Airplay related posts;

I reflashed a different stick with SqueezePlay OS and went through the process of installing Airplay and enabling it, renaming the joggler and rebooting, still to no avail.

Does anybody have this working and if so, what is their setup?

iTunes only recognises the Apple TV as a network speaker; it's not picking up the Joggler as an Airplay device at all. When streaming to the Apple TV from the iPad it doesn't matter if the content is video or audio, it is auto-detected and the Apple TV can stream either. I was really looking forward to streaming audio to the Joggler because it is hooked up to my amplifier and the sound would have been great.

Are there any other things that Airplay depends on? Installing Airplay is the first thing I do after establishing my network and rebooting. Should I configure or install something else first?

If you're running iOS6 on the iPad then it may be related to the version of Shairport that's running on the Joggler

Yup - Shairport version in sqpOS doesn't work with iOS 6. There's a patch - I'll have to put together an update.

If that was the issue surely it would work in iTunes, hence my suggestion. Unless that's been updated and doesn't work either.

Well whaddaya know? After about 4 hours tinkering, involving burning the image to another stick, multiple reboots of both the Joggler and the iPad, switching Airplay on and off again ad infinitum - I finally gave up and went to bed defeated. Nothing I could do would make the Joggler appear as an Airplay device...

...Then I came downstairs this morning, played around with the iPad and tried to stream some photos to the Apple TV and ... multiple eye rubs and blinks ... no, surely not! But yes, there was the Joggler available for Airplay heaven. Streaming Spotify was faultless and I couldn't be happier. It looks like the message saying that the Joggler will appear as an Airplay device in a few moments was a tad optimistic in my case.

I'm probably going to have to buy another Joggler to keep in reserve; I'd be really disappointed if either of my 2 Jogglers gave up the ghost. They get constant use every day.

Haha! Well, how weird! My Jogglers weren't appearing as AirPlay receivers when I checked this morning after reading the posts above. I'll have to do some more checking on this and see what's going on, because AirPlay isn't half handy sometimes.

The mystery deepens. This morning, both Jogglers were sat happily in my AirPlay list on iOS 6. There's definitely something kooky happening.

I'm still on jailbroken iOS 5 on the iPad. Since Airplay first appeared (hours after its expected arrival) it has been rocksteady and a constant source of entertainment. My kids are delighted that they don't need to plug a cable into their iPods to play stuff through the hi-fi.
