I used it originally as its seems to be the "goto" place for testing, not sure if its the best though.

I've found the BBC iPlayer diagnostics test is quite good for testing video streaming. It frequently gives a higher overall bandwidth result than speedtest.net.

Sorry for reviving an old thread but this left me gobsmacked . What a diverse range! From the sublime to the ridiculous (poor Turvey - hope things have improved!). Am very jealous and may have to investigate changing my supplier.

Try UnoDNS. They have iPlayer on their list of services.

I still recommend trying UnoDNS - especially if you set it up on a device that doesn't have sensitive personal information passing through. I don't route through UnoDNS servers for my general internet traffic but I have it set up on my ATV2, Wii and (occasionally) the Xbox 360.

It's cheap and faster than a VPN and works on devices other than your computer (unlike a VPN - which also slows your connection speed).

They have an eight day free trial that you only need to provide a u/name and p/w for (no credit card details, unlike the Netflix free trial). I have several geo-locked* services running through my Joggler and ATV2, including US Netflix. Their customer service is pretty good too. I've had to raise a support ticket twice and my problems have been fixed within 24 hours; not bad for a company in another time zone (Toronto, Canada).

I'm guessing this isn't aimed at me - as I have no idea what it means!

I could live with your result too! Just checked mine and and it's the slowest on here damn it . The phone companies still have a long way to go to give us what we need/want.

Finally available in my street... BT Infinity ordered...

My supplier's emailed saying they're upgrading the broadband in our area and it will effect me. That's good news right? Except they don't say what the improvements are or what difference, if any, I should see (not even on their help page).

Knowing my luck I'll probably lose internet connection completely.

Well, after some fiddling around and removal of the Home Hub 3 (using an AirPort Extreme instead), this is the comparison.

There's definitely been a change...

Just a bit of a change! I'm still getting the ADSL2+ up and running with stability here! Saturday was spent re-wiring the phone and network extensions in the house. Up from 5.7-6.3Mb/s all the way to the dizzy heights of 13-14Mb/s for download with an upload increase from 0.44Mb/s to 0.88Mb/s. Wouldn't know what to do with 70Mb/s download!

I'm getting 15mbit/s from my ISP

Have managed to get my line sorted after initial issues with ADSL2+. An incompatible router and dodgy extension wiring caused lots of loss of sync events to start with - it was an assortment of starfish arrangements from extensions. However, my new simple daisy chain arrangement is working flawlessly with the router towards the end of the chain on a filtered plate with the further extensions being automatically filtered for the Sky+ box and the cordless phones.

Sync reliably at 17500+kbps now so that'll do me nicely as there is no hope of FFTC ever making it's way over to this part of the country.
