Works and boots properly now with the new line in fstab and I get this (I might not have closed the session down properly last time).......

Now, you need to get into the LMS gui via browser: http:192.168.x.x:9000

(change to your ip address)

Go to Settings - Basic Settings tab

1. Media Library Name - whatever you want - eg USBDRIVE

2. Media Folders - change to /mnt/usbdrive

3. Rescan media library - Clear library and rescan everything - hit Rescan button

4. Go to Information tab - check the scan completes without errors.

5. If all okay, then go to Joggler Squeezeplay menu - My Music - scroll down to Switch Library - you should see USBDRIVE - select

6. That's it

Now - if above works, then you should shut down the Joggler's wifi connection (assume you'll do this by closing down the hotspot?). Reboot the Joggler - you should only get a reduced main menu - but My Music should be there and it should show your music.

Done all that but it still only finds USBDRIVE when it's got wi-fi.

What if you change the settings to ethernet?

I'm scared we break anything else!

No still won't find the music switched to ethernet. Not really a problem as I can always reflash to recover from a breaking can't I?

Reflash should be okay.

When you set it up - did you do the registering at mysqueezebox.com routine?

I think somewhere in settings there's an option to deregister. Try that.

De-registered and reset everything to default and it still won't work without wi-fi.

I'm baffled.

Go to the LMS gui - top right dropdown list of players - select Squeezeplay.

Reboot without wifi.

Any luck?

It's set to Squeezeplay anyway and won't let me select anything else.......

When wifi is down - you see My Music? What dislays when you select it?

I've asked on squeezebox forum for some advice.

I get My Music on the home screen and when I select it it tries for just a few seconds to connect to USBDRIVE and then comes up with the 'Problem Connecting' screen.If I tap 'Try Again' or 'Switch Library',it tries again for a few seconds before going back to the 'Problem Connecting' screen

Is USBDRIVE listed as a Switch Library destination?

It doesn't give any other libraries to switch to,just tries USBDRIVE for a few seconds and gives up again.

Right. I installed LMS on my Win PC - which has Squeezeplay on it.

Duplicated the non-wifi session. Squeezeplay sees the local drive and plays the files. ????

So as long as LMS is installed and running on my Joggler,I should be able to play locally stored music files without wi-fi?

Yes - in theory!

Is LMS installed or not? I thought it was.

I suppose the real test is for me to set up my Joggler to see what happens.

It says it's installed (or did last time I reflashed it).If I try to install/update,restart or remove it,is says it will proceed in the background but doesn't ever seem to do anything.

Does that fact that it only works from a remote version of LMS mean it's not actually getting installed on my Joggler then?

You'll see a list of running processes.

There should be an entry called 'squeezeboxserve' displayed as the list slowly scrolls.

Exit top by hitting the Q key

A big difference between my setup on the Joggler and yours is that I use the usb SqpOS version - not the internal memory version. As rhoobarb pointed out there isn't much space left on the internal memory if you install LMS as well as squeezeplay.

I'll try tomorrow or Tuesday to set up my Joggler without wifi and a local usb drive.
