try putting devcon disable/enable <instance-id> in the shutdown/startup scripts in gpedit.msc\Comp Config\Win Settings\Scripts (Startup/Shutdown). devcon find * will get you the instance-id

.

My 2nd Joggler arrived today, so I'll image the drive from my tweaked current build at some point today and try that out. Cheers Noodles.

looks like the devcon commands need to be in bat files.

Thanks noodles2k.
Found the devcon command here for download.
http://download.microsoft.com/download/ ... devcon.exe
The devcon find on one of the Jogglers shows (and I am wondering if they will all be different, similar or the same)
PCI\VEN_10EC&DEV_8168&SUBSYS_816810EC&REV_02\4&5183D9D&0&00E0: Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller

Welcome back Dan.
Still waiting on the rest of my SSD USB drives. Meanwhile testing now with one in one Joggler sans WLAN card and two Jogglers with the WLAN card.
Still seeing the on and off again internal NIC booting / recognition thing. I do have the Jogglers now connected to Gb links. It seems that if I disconnect the NIC and wait until boot process is about half completed; it'll boot fine with the internal NIC.
I suggested maybe some firmware upgrade of the NIC. I see the dos version configuration of the fw upgrade allows for an entry of a MAC address.
Someone suggested that the firmware upgrade is kind of invasive; rightly so; and it would be better to do some sort of modification to the boot process using devcon; which would be much less invasive.
I am not seeing the video off thing though; but I really never did. Some folks are though; from what I can tell. Sound is working well without any crackles or distorations. I have one Joggler sitting here on my desk with a USB memory stick with LED on its side and do notice that it appears to be RW 100% of the time. Wonder what this will do to the USB memory stick?

a firmware upgrade sounds promising although dangerous lol
Not sure how the devcon stuff would work, time to do some research me thinks!!

Yeah; for the firmware upgrade it would have to be done in DOS and its very much hands on. Ideally it would have to be some boot image that would autoload the firmware; but yes a keyboard error or power disconnect would toast / brick the NIC; which makes it very invasive.
I think its all related to the power on the bus off the bus thing though (ACPI stuff) with the NIC being left in a state of "suspended animation". Similiar to the USB keeping the power on even when the Joggler is off.
I'm seeing weird non Joggler threads searching the internet about specifically the Realtek NIC's and having to pull the CMOS battery out to truely reset it.

So ours should be reseting each power cycle as no active cmos, strange.
And on the rw query, some usb sticks show a constant rw, where as others do not, but im hoping to make two versions of my next image, one for hdd, and one for ssd/usb
SSD/USB version using ewf and other ssd optimization

Thanks Dan.
Its difficult though to power cycle the NIC as it may be using the voltage on the wire (network cable) or the standby motherboard voltage. So I'm thinking maybe that the boot thinks the NIC is booting from scratch when in fact the NIC is just asleep and needs to be waken?
This is just a guess though.
Just so happen that I glanced over and the constanting blinking LED on the USB stick; but I really never pay attention; and with the SSD USB inside I don't see the LED.

My 2nd Joggler from ebay installs the Realtek pcie nic driver, but the device won't start. I've swapped disks from the other fully working one and re-imaged, but still the same. I'll try with an ubuntu image to double check, but it's not looking good for this one.
Is there more than one HW revision of the Joggler?
WIFI works, but there's a real shortage of available connections at home.
I've switched from USB flash to a HDD for my fully working Joggler. Aside from being much quicker, I had visions of killing a £30 flash stick in a few weeks with the excessive writes. With the page file on a 2nd stick, the writes DO calm down after a while, but it's still not good.

yeah, I got this. In the event log, it says "the adapter encountered an invalid address" - which leads straight back to the lack of a mac address. It's not a different adapter, but it may be a different firmware rev.

noodles2K,
There is a driver posted somewhere here that I found to work "most" of the time. It creates an odd MAC address if you don't configure one for it when there is no WLAN card in place. The driver is not the most currently posted one from the Realtek site but rather an older one for the same NIC.
You can install it over the old (new) driver.
Try also to unplugging the power supply, plug in the power supply; letting it start to boot. When it gets to about midway booting; plug in the NIC cable and see then if it boots.
I've moved my Jogglers over to Gb connections as that is my preference versus wireless at this time. Booting cold to wireless is not an issue. Ideally if I could fit both the USB SSD and Joggler USB WLAN device inside of the Joggler; that would work; but it would be a very tight fit. I have a very small USB 4 port hub board; but its still too big to fit inside of the Joggler. Its the same little USB board that folks have been using inside of the Asus Netbook.
I too have been doing most of the "testing" with my 1.8" 30 Gb ZIF drive USB connected. I did though leave two of the Jogglers for the time being connected to 8Gb USB memory sticks to watch them for a bit.

Great news Dan.
Just an FYI.
I do an internal time sync via an NTP server connected to a GPS; specifically Tardis on a W2003 server. I did notice today both the W2003 and XP changed time; even though I have the time service off (I thought I did). So downloaded both XP and W2003 time patches. Both would not install.
Recently started a new hobby; collecting very old clocks. Kind of always been particular about time though....
I've attached a "freebee" innocuous "do all time" fix.

Shame about loosing everything, lost three hours of work this morning Laptop just switched off. Overheated due to me leaving my glasses case right were the fan exhaust is.
Can not get either 2003 or xp to boot off the pata port but ubuntu and android work just fine.
Question does the windows partition have to be NTFS formated for this to work.

in theory no, but in practice yes, as the way we boot windows on joggler look for the active ntfs partition
