Dan,

Found this stuff.

Just adding this FYI - Most of this is a bit old as today is the 5th of October.

Looking tonight on Eric Huang blog dated 1, October, 20111 and see the following:

Full source code - xoj_v0.2_src.rar - downloaded and will post.

Tools Eric utilized:

vc2008, vc6, WinDDK2003, EFI_Toolkit_2.0

Contents:

1 - ntldr_tiamo: cottage version of NTLDR.
Direct use vc2008 open a project and compile.
xoj\bin
Compiled by the NTLDR copied to xoj \ bin below.

2 - video_gop: is the GOP framebuffer driver, is relatively simple, with WinDDK command line, nmake, build vga.sys.

XOJ_V0.2.rar (think this one is the one Dan posted earlier).

WinPE_Template_V0.1.gho downloaded and will post

XOJ

Combo of xoj-mbr and xoj-ntldr into xoj.efi file.

Tried booting from the pata port using a USB stick for the efi, it boots to the desktop and I alter the brightness and then it freezes.
video on youtube
USB seems to stop working as soon as control has passed to the NTFS partition

mickchip, maybe the new EFI files will work with the PATA?

dan, good news on the boot from the USB hub. I've been playing with a side by side comparision of an application boot up speed with the XP and Linux version of the application (should also include the Android version - even with no flash).

seems win2003 takes about 25 seconds longer to boot, but once booted and loaded it runs faster, so do we take the 20 second hit on boot time for added performance on the windopws shell?

programs load faster on 2003 than on my build of windows xp, but windows xp boots faster for some reason.

I would say it depends on what you want to do with xp on the joggler. For me server is no good because the programs I want to run do not run on the server version.

Dan,
Yes so far Buzz's Ubuntu 11.04 image. I am starting the clock by rebooting in the OS; letting it go to the O2 screen then booting into the OS, auto running the application. BUT; the application runs fastest in an RDP session to a Wintel box. When running in Native Linux mode its very resource intensive; so its slow. Still tweaking the SDK pieces of it. So the reboot of XP; (old); boots slower; but when it loads the application its faster. I added another piece to it; text to speech fonts; Neospeech is what I use. The XP is doing the speech fine; no stuttering or digitizing. I'm having VB library errors on the Linux build; but its my fault for mixing this and that.

I personally utilize W2003 server for just about everything here. I have a tweaked desktop version of W2003 server and it runs circles around the XP machine. 2003 is built more for autonomous functions where as XP just includes everything (much of the stuff you don't want). So tweaking less on the W2003 stuff; much more on the XP stuff. Even more on the W7 stuff. My favorite for just "function" is the starter W7 package. The W7 ultimate is fine for a desktop but I personally don't like what MS did to the network stack. They kind of rewrote it such that your entire network becomes MS centric. It makes it difficult to mix and match on the network when MS wants the whole thing. (I have BSD and a variety of Linux boxes, FreeNAS, etc). W7 was made to look like the MAC OS; simple and they keep the hardware devices layered into the OS such that its more difficult to diagnose simple hardware issues.

Dan,

Posted EFI booted up fine with a Hub. Runs XP great. Its showing 496Mb of Ram and a 742Mb of a paging file.

Allows keyboard/mouse functions just fine.

Just adding TTS to it.

The short list -

- Audio - Figuring out that INI thing with the speaker out / headphone jack in. I've tried a variety of modded INF files but no luck so far.
I guess it was always part of the Sigmatel audio drivers (mixer) and they removed it for some odd reason.

- NIC - I've been able to get mine to reboot fine with a new MAC; still locking up though when I plug in a network cable.

- autobrightness on boot - I'm doing this talking to the BL Brightness value on the Linux box. I also do it remotely on the Linux box by running an XPL hub and a python script. This allows me to say utilize a remote control to dim the touchscreen. I tried some generic dimming programs with no luck in XP mode on the Joggler.

- Touchscreen Alignment - so far its been just right; I did tried the most common touchscreen alignment programs; no luck though yet. A program to adjust and tweak the touchscreen would be great.

Dan, you are the XPert and EFI Guru!

Guru - comes from the days when I would play with the AmigaDOS and GUI. Instead of a BSOD; you would get a "GURU" error. Here in Chicago in the 1980's though we converted an old stockmarket number flipper board (with painted wooden numbers) to utilizing the Amiga with a video Toaster for a television station. We would get "guru" errors and everyone watching the stock market program would occassionly see these. The cost of the endeavor though was very reasonable considering what was out there at the time.

will drop my 2003 build very soon just getting it right first,

And windows 7 i cannot see happening for a long time due to the entirely different way it boots.

and on the nic issue i really cant see a way out of that just due to the configuration the joggler uses, but i will try with the server build again tonight and let you know the outcome

There's no startup.nsh on the root, only in a subfolder. Do I just put it on the root? Thank you.
