Hi all,

I still can't get either of the images to boot (at best, I still get 'fs0:xoj-ntldr is not recognized as an internal or external command'). This is the same any of my 4 USB sticks/sd card readers, with or without a USB Hub

To enable me to rule-out the drive as being the problem, can someone recommend a (hopefully speedy, and non-expensive) model of pen drive/stick which they've got working and I can easily buy online? (I think an 8Gb or 16Gb should be enough..)

I use a 8gb sandisk class4 micro SD card in a multi card reader through a powerd hub works fine, a dedicated micro sd reader would be better! also dont swap usb ports after first boot!
What program/os are you flashing the image with/on?

I get that error if I plug into a hub in the 'wrong' socket. I suspect it's not seeing the NTFS partition and might be a problem when imaging the stick? My guess, that's all.

To get my USB stick/hub/keyboard to work in harmony was really simple. I start the boot with just the USB stick in the hub - you might need to experiment with which port on the hub works best - THEN, after crcdisk.sys when the screen starts to spring into life, connect your other stuff to the hub. I wasn't able to get my Joggler to boot with a 2nd empty USB stick, so I haven't tried changing the paging file yet. Running apps from a second USB stick inserted after boot is super quick! 'Portable' browsers, etc. should be awesome.

In helpful tools, I ran the HW Acceleration app. I re-enabled Computer Browser, Wireless Zero Configuration & WMI services. Reboot after that, but still no access to the password screen, although the firewall & VPN works now.


This is what I also did to the current image...... seems to boot, run and shutdown quicker for me now. I dunno if a few of the things I did were needed or already set on the image.

click start, all programs, accessories, command prompt (right click, run as.. untick 'run this program with restricted access'). At cmd prompt:

powercfg.exe /hibernate off (dunno if it was ever enabled)
fsutil.exe behavior set disable8dot3 1 (disable DOS 8.3 naming)
fsutil behavior set disablelastaccess 1 (disable the last accessed flag)


Disable Windows prefetch
start, run... type regedit
browse to:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management\PrefetchParameters]
double-click "EnablePrefetcher" and change the value to 0


turn of disk caching:
Right-click on My Computer, then Device Manager.
Click on the + next to Disk Drives and right click on the HDD and click Properties.
On the policies tab, tick the top option to disable disk caching. Click OK.

(while in device manager, you can update the drivers for the HID touchscreen)

After the first boot you can probably delete the 2 shortcuts in the startup folder, unless you need the onscreen keyboard at boot.

I also install & run CCleaner to tidy up the install. You can tick in 'advanced' to delete the old prefetch files.

Well, I've tried a few different ways. I'm using a Sandisk Cruzer Micro 8Gb USB stick.

I use gparted to delete all existing partitions and then I've found a bit of software called Ubuntu Imagewriter which uses this command to copy the image:

dd if=home/fred/Desktop/2003FoShiz.img of=/dev/sdb

it reports success, but I can't get my joggler to boot into windows.

I've tried other ways to write the image, but all other images work fine (- Android/Ubuntu/Mint) so I'm wondering if there is something odd about my joggler that it can't handle the efi for WIndows

i use win32diskimager on xp dont need to pre set or delete partitions. And as Mevi said try different usb ports but remember to re flash the image each time as settings are made first boot

I switched to testing mostly with a 1.8" 30Gb microdrive (with ZIF) to USB connection. Initially though I was "testing" with a 4Gb HP microUSB stick.

Once to a point of running OK I've been able to shrink down the "build" to either 4 Gb or 8 Gb and put it on a memory stick.

USB boot does a better job with W2003 than XP SP3. I get wierd bursts with XP SP3 running off of a memory stick (tried a higher end fast stick)

For the current Joggler which is running XP SP3 in "production" I replaced the WLAN USB card inside with an 8Gb USB SSD "stick" which is about twice the size of a regular 8 Gb usb stick (pictures above in this thread).

This one now is also running with a 1Gb wired connection.

Still have some internal NIC boot issues; its hit or miss with that. Noticed the same with the W2003 build. Its something related to the power / no power stuff on the NIC.

hi guys, I'm trying to deploy this windows image to memory stick using win32 Disk imager, but when I click "write" nothing happens. I have tried 8gb and 4gb stick and have same results. Other images work fine. Also tried downloading the image twice. Any ideas whats going wrong?

I utilize the USB image write program. I posted the link above somewhere. I get wierd VB errors running the W32 Disk Imager program in Windows.

The images that have been posted are all OK from what I can tell. Its just been the issues writing to the USB sticks that I see.

Before writing the image; utilize either Linux or the old HP USB stick format program to reformat the stick. Doesn't matter what you format it to. With GParted I format the entire USB stick and then just wipe it. With the HP program I just format it to Fat32.

This error is relating to the boot order. Your image is OK. If you are booting from a USB hub; switch the port; keep trying different ports until you see one that works. You can also just plug in sans a hub to insure that it boots OK (even though you won't have a keyboard or mouse).

Dan has also mentioned that playing with the NTFS partition boot.ini file may help with the boot order / USB hub thing / Internal USB port versus external port.

I am currently still playing with the W2003 set up. I do have an XP SP3 Joggler running an application now just fine. I can play with the W2003 image but really need IE and SP2 on it to be more functional for the specific application that I am using (TTS, Speech fonts, Touch screen application, Flash, Silverlight and Java). The application I am running now talks to the mothership (running W2003) and to an Ubuntu 11.04 LAMP (now serving up PHP, Ajax, Silverlight, flash stuff) server for its pages.

Has anyone been able to be successful adding IE (any version) or SP1/SP2 with this build?

I haven't been able to get SP2 on either. I am hoping Dan's new image will resolve this.

I did copy across the IE8 files while trying to get SP2 on. It did get further but fails about 70% of the way through. I will try looking into this a bit further tonight.

I haven't actually tried running up IE8 as the files were only copied over to get SP2 installation further. I will try that later too.

When I have had this problem in the past I have switched to USB Image tool (as Pete suggests) and it has worked fine.

give me a 24 hours chaps and the sp2 release will be ready got a night off lol

I will quit playing with the old W2003 image.

Noticed a delay on my USB SSD orders.

the new 2003 image may be a little slower as its less slimmed out, but that shouldn't matter too much. and i contacted the kingspec sellers on ebay and they estimate a 4 week delivery for me in blighty, so not ordered yet

Dan, not an issue. What you have done with MS for the Joggler community is great!

I think my USB SSDs (ordered 4 of them) are on their way to me.

Not sure though; cuz there was some dialog about some delays initially. There is a tracking number listed so I'm guessing that they have been shipped.

Can I ask that Terminal Services is not removed for this build. I use it for killing processes when automating stuff. Oh yeah, and a password for the auto login. There's a pint in it for you.

I was just giving the SP2 install a final try after putting on .NET 1.1, as it seemed to be bombing out at the point it was updating 1.1

Is the Kingspec SSD enough of a performance boost over a flash drive to justify the purchase? Can anyone vouch for the seller - I'm always a bit wary of overseas sellers. Cheers

Can I request as before to include either VNC or enable remote desktop by default. I'm still waiting for a powered USB hub to arrive, but would love to give this a spin before that happens.

Johnny, i had this issue too but whilst trying to build android images, in the end it was the version of win32 disk imager, 0.3 worked ok on a windows7 32 bit.
Trying to build any images on w7 64 bit (using other utilities as well ) was almost impossible for me, so that could be an issue as well.
