Well, I managed to delete all the crud on the screens that joli has as default and got the local apps folder on teh front page and xbmc in there. I launched xbmc, seems a bit faster. It did a few updates. I go to video add ons and touch the iplayer line... it crashes and freezes up. *sigh* Only way to recover is power out.
This is destined not to work for me. I don't think I can recommend this to my friend with these sorts of stability issues. I'm a flipping technogeek and if I'm struggling, god knows how he'll get on!

xbmc does work, but you might want to check if h/w video acceleration is on/off. off is safer, and on only works for some stuff anyway. its possible the skin was updating btw and it can freeze for a while. if it seems crashed worth leaving it for a few mins to see.
Iplayer works also. I use it all the time (I also maintain the plugin).
perhaps you just got unlucky that time. i get very occasional xbmc crashes.

The browser is very fast to operate. That's goof. Trouble is, it seems stuck in a "wider than the joggler" display mode and has sideways scrolling turned on. Is there any way to tell it not to do this/set the display size to the correct settings?
Also... where the heck is squeezeplay?

there is a squeezeplay installer under local apps (needs to be added from the add local app or so).
Not had a problem with the browser - obviously web pages wider than 800 will not fit perfectly width wise unless you scale em. you can turn off the touch extension at the right of the url bar if thats what you are referring to.

Joli OS all the way in this house. Maybe I have smaller fingers, but I don't have much trouble navigating the Joli interface.

you are a convert now?

but yeh, I too run jolios on my machines. not sure of the future of the OS though. they seem to be concentrated more on their cloud/web based stuff. I hope jolios gets an update at some point though, although they update the browsers etc, so it doesnt really matter if the base components are a couple of years old.

If the o/s works, that's all that's needed under the hood for me. What it's lacking is a more touchscreen-friendly interface, but once you're in squeezeplay or xbmc I suppose it makes little difference.

Definitely.

From their blog post they still seemed interested in their own OS, so hopefully it won't be sidelined.

It appears my joggler isn't powerful enough for non-powered usb hub performance. Got one of the 4-port mini hub things as recommend by Gets on here and it worked for a short while but now I Can't even get it to boot reliably with more than the usb stick in place. If I plug in a mouse or keyboard or some usb speakers it all starts crashing and failing to boot... powered hub required then...

Hmm. I tried another unpowered hub that I've had for ages and that seems to be fine. It's one of the cheapo square ones with a port at each corner and it hasn't caused a single crash as yet. I have also switched to the Ubuntu release and that seems far more responsive and stable than the Joli one to me.
