The PATA ZIF 1.8" drives are abundant on eBay.... They're also used in iPod classics, as well as ultra portables. Also cheap are ZIF to CF adapters, some with a 1.8" case for tidiness. I wonder if a CF card with adaptor will fit inside the joggler case. I need to read up on CF cards that are bootable as 'fixed drives', I read that not all are.

I think those SSDs are pretty good. They're designed to be used as boot drives, unlike CF cards which are terrible, and die pretty fast.

But I think mickchip probably knows more about the performance of those than I do, so let's wait for his input. I've only used mine for DOS. I'm booting Win 7 from a SATA HDD.

I have to stress, this is only for playing around - I don't anticipate PATA to be the "be it all, end it all" boot mechanism for Win 7.

I got mine off ebay, if you use the 1.3"ssd's you need just a standard 40 way fpc type A (contacts on the same side) blue both ends
A 1.8" ssd or hdd you need a reverse contacts fpc or type B (contact on opposite sides) blue one end white the other

The 1.8 ssd's are way better than the hard drives, I use a 64gb one in my q1 ultra, much faster

W7 here wouldn't install on the USB connected ZIF drive for whatever reason.

Just the fact there you are providing the community with a new Joggler BIOS is great inaxeon.

Would an SSD to the PATA port fit inside of the Joggler anyways? I guess you could insulate it somehow?

Yeah so you're using same as me. "Bottom Contact" ZIF connector on the Joggler, and flat cable. Did your cable come with the SSD?

The SSD I have easily fits inside the Joggler - It's very thin. Just wrap it up in Kapton tape, or anything else that insulates well that doesn't break down. Maybe a sheet of paper would do

I have an 8GB ZIF SSD in my non functional Acer Aspire One (broken power jack socket) I read that the Intel ones some AAOs use are to be avoided, I forget which brand is the one I have.

I'm looking at the "super talent" PCIE SSD I just removed from the netbook; it is really thin; never paid attention to the SSD drives I have laying around here.

I got one with the ssd but I also bought a load from hong kong, both types and different lengths.

Does your build ever boot? If so, that is actually very useful. That is the first time I've seen an 0x7B on a working installation, given that it's also booting from USB, that really narrows it down...

The super talent or trancend 1.3" ssds will easy fit inside the joggler

sometimes I get to the desktop - well, twice out of 4 or 5 attempts. Takes a long time to get there with user profile service, server service, page file not working. I left the keyboard dongle out after selecting safe mode and plugged it back in on the desktop. One of the times the touchscreen worked but the trackpad didn't. Next time I get to the desktop I'll spend a bit more time with it.

Geez; automation server just crashed....

Back at the safemode desktop after another of the same bluescreen. I also see that ol' familiar Realtek driver not working along with a USB controller. I'll start digging for drivers.

The realtek driver isn't going to work until I write some code which fixes the EEPROM (assuming it has one)

As for the USB controller. That's just the USBC. You don't need that. If it really bugs you, EDC has drivers for it, but there is no physical connection to the USBC on the Joggler so it's useless.

(assuming your unknown device has these IDs? device manager will tell you on the details tab, select Device IDs)

And yet another blue screen
had it all working off the pata port then install the gma500 drivers, rebooted and now this.
won't even boot in safe mode.

What the heck display drivers are you guys using?
