Decided to add back in media player, as third party app didn't cut the mustard, also Mevi, how did you find the ssd layer? did you see improved speeds or what some testers experienced was a slight slowdown?

had to edit as spellcheck called you Melvin, makes sense i suppose lmao

Ha, I've been called worse.

The Joggler with the USB stick (10MBs write speed) is still going strong a day and a half later. Still nice and responsive.

The Joggler with the USB HDD has been less snappy over the same period. The boot up and shutdown have become very slow as of late yesterday and I've had to power off when stuck on a black screen after trying to shutdown.

2 extremes there and might be due to the different things I've been doing with each Joggler. The hdd has been adding windows updates, the USB wasn't. The hdd is rotating media and is a quicker boot media. Might need more testing.

Easy for the end user to install if they want to try it, though. Stick the installer on the desktop and I think people will be happy with that.

Oh, I've discovered that media sharing with WMP11 is crippled in XP.

Boxee box would be one i would like to see :) got an early invite on the linux release of Avron Roner the man behind it had a bit play with it but went back to xbmc.
Its based around xbmc, so i would suspect wireless would be an issue without going in to code for settings like in the xbmc live joggler image ,but thats not the end of the world is it.
Mevi, i found this post but it is beyond me, maybee helpfull though.

Thanks, hawsey. The beta they mention in the link is the pc/mac/Linux version, rather than the Boxee Box version which is for their dedicated set top box. I'll try jamming bits of the Joggler OS and Boxee OS together and see what happens!

I'm delaying my XP Pro SP3 (now including Tablet Edition) build 2 for a few more days.

I hope to have everything fixed from build 1 as can be. Some of the things that have been reported, I just can't replicate at home OR, in the case of the error 10 NIC, might be a firmware problem that needs a DOS prompt to reflash. :(

All the other problems, I've fixed. I've added and removed a load of other stuff and installed windows updates up to the present date that I really should test properly before releasing it to you all and avoid any potential headaches I might be causing you! I hope that this will be the final build, which frees me up for other Joggler projects.

I'm seeing odd things now with the NIC. I could earlier not replicate the cold connectivity NIC boot.

I had a power failure and it came back just fine. Last night I tried a cold boot then plugged the NIC in and it locked up. I then unplugged the PS, plugged the NIC and plugged the PS back in and it booted fine. Just a note about the odd but good NIC behavior.

Dan,

Here I am off to a tangent; young as you are and so into this "stuff"....and me being somewhat always into science and an old trekkie by heart.

I envision you walking up one morning many many years from now; a good morning to your spouse then walking over to the kitchen, making some coffee; raining looking outside of the windows; telling your house computer to make the windows sunny; cuz it will be a nice day.

Then getting into a philosophical discussing about existentialism with your house computer; after bringing it up with your wife and not getting the answer you wanted....or maybe a quick read on your reading glasses (embedded wide screen room size book view) of the Suma Theologica....wondering how all this technology came to be (it'll be an age thing)......

Or getting the latest OS to run on a neural implant from back in the 2040s.... we know it'll not perform too well, but the GUI of the retinal display is just so much nicer.

Nah; it won't be a retinal display; just an imprint to your cerebral cortex (visual cortex a bit above and around the occipital lobe)...why bother with a mechanism of transport when you can go directly to the eventual source.

But to continue the story....you asked....the computer told you....but instead you wanted to see it for yourself.....and the computer said read it if you don't believe me....and you did with your retinal life size display....(pragmatic part of you, you know science, knowing about theories but believing only what you see type stuff....).....so I guess what is real and what appears to be real or what is not real but you think is real can be real....I remember the year that man landed on the moon...we all were huddled around the television...we watched...grandma being her old self not being born with television around doubted what she saw....then just a couple of years ago...venturing outside where I live and seeing all the neighbors outside peering into the sky...whoa...they were looking most intently and then I watched as the shuttle undocked from the space station as it slowly went across the sky...memerized by what I saw...almost a bit of a repeat from a long time ago when I was small doing the same one night...watching the Telstar satellite cross the sky one night....lol...

I'm about an hour down the medway from Roch, and the almost perpetual absence of the sun (like today  ) is driving me crazy
