I updated my Joggler to V1.28 yesterday from what I believe was v1.27 (I'm good with timing!) and since the update I've lost the SQP UI feedback sounds (I use SqueezePlay to drive a Receiver but I've also tried playing and it doesn't produce anything) - I've checked the settings and they're enabled. I've also checked the asound.conf and it is the simpler version you have mentioned in other comments in this thread. Is it worth grabbing V1.29?

UPDATE: I'm not getting audio from any of the native apps either... Should say that I did a complete remove (purge) of the old SQP as I'd tried varios plugins and wanted to clear out all that history. Also tried a power cycle (it often works for Windows ;-)

I've checked the following files and I think that they're right from what I've read in here

Code: Select all

# cd /etc
# cat asound.conf
pcm.!default {
   type hw
   card 0
}
ctl.!default {
   type hw
   card 0
}
# cd /proc/asound
# cat cards
 0 [Intel          ]: HDA-Intel - HDA Intel
                      HDA Intel at 0xd01c0000 irq 11
#
FURTHER EDIT:
I couldn't resist playing - I restored the _presqp asound.conf - that made horrible noises (quietly) so I put back the post SQP version I'd kept safe and it's now fine... strange!

Yes, error messages are handy. I don't use the Napster service though, but it seems a little odd that if you're using the Joggler as a controller (rather than a player) that it should cause any troubles...

Pop the error message up and I'll see if it makes any sense to me.

How bizarre! Well, glad it's behaving now.

Quite! The only way I can rationalise it is if something was watching for tha file to change to go and update something else...

But I know very little about Linux so that might be total bunk!

Many thanks for that.

It's all working fine now so I'm reluctant to try and recreate the error. I think it could have been that as I had the receiver (that I was controlling with a joggler in the same room) synced with squeezeplay on a joggler in a different room - when I tried to use joggler as a controller for the receiver it was throwing up problems. No sync set up now and Napster is playing as it should between the the joggler controlling / duet receiver set up. The error had something to do with not playing wma files I think. If I see it again, I'll post it. Thanks again :-)

Thanks roobarb. I hope I didn't sound ungrateful above!! That certainly wasn't the intention. I very much appreciate the work you and others have put into making the Joggler such a great device and for the offer of support with the issue I had. :-)

Not at all - just leave a message if you hit upon the problem again. There's definitely a little voodoo in SqueezePlay's transcoding and codec support! ;)

Firstly thanks for all the time and effort put into this distribution.

Was wondering if anyone had found or made an asound.conf file which avoids the 'chipmonk' sped up sound and also does not break audio output after 6-8 hours?

Or does anyone know a stream for talkSport that has a better bitrate for squeezeplay to handle. I have tried on native OS, Ubuntu, Mint and Jolicloud all resulting the same problems.

I would be happy to help test any setups regarding this if it can help at all.

On your Joggler, go to the official http://www.mysqueezebox.com/download page and grab the Debian / Ubuntu Linux .deb file from the dropdown menu. Double-click it or install it from the CLI using:

Code: Select all

sudo dpkg --install <name_of_file.deb>
From memory, the server starts up straight away after installation. If it doesn't, reboot. Updates are handled automatically as the installer adds Logitech's update server as a source for apt; you just use the normal Update Manager in Ubuntu.

I have been running this for a while now and must say i'm very happy with it. Thanks very much :).

Now i need to ask one thing when u go to

Settings >>>> Screen >>>> Screensavers >>>> When Off
and select anyone one of the clocks, then go back to main menu and Hit the Turn Off Squeezeplay it turns off displays the clock for a few sec and then the screen goes blank.

Is there a way to keep this from do this?

Many thanks , it installed ok from the CLI , but I cannot see the music on my Memory stick , in squeezebox server I chose the MNT folder but nothing shows up ,
Am I missing something or is it not possible to use another partition for music with squeezeplayer in umbuntu ?

/mnt may well be the wrong location. Try looking in /media instead.

Tried that as well with no luck,
I'm trying to expand the btrfs partition to take up the the whole of the left over space,
I'm using the commands that I got from another thread

wget http://joggler.exotica.org.uk/source/sc ... zebtrfs.sh
but I'm getting a 404 not found error , have I got that command right ? a space either side of the 3 dots (first time ever using linux)
and I booted of a usb stick running umbuntu 11.10

I think that the URL has been shortened by the forum software - where is the original from?

Same problem here !
Any suggestion ?

I think I didn't have this problem in older version of Squeezplay. Maybe screensaver function isn't handle correctly in last beta version of SP :(

@roobarb
Hope you will take a look at this...

If you're hitting the power button icon in the top-left, then you are indeed 'turning off' SqueezePlay. The power button had code added to it many versions ago that controls the backlight - when SqueezePlay is powered off using the button, the display is blanked and the backlight is turned off. The behaviour you are seeing is correct.

If you wish the Joggler to sit displaying a clock, then my advice would be to use one of the other screensaver options and not turn SqueezePlay 'off' using that icon. I believe there's an option for 'when not playing' in the screensaver menu - using this will cause a screensaver to be shown when there is no audio output being played.

Squeezebox server is running on the PC and Squeezeplay picks it up OK over ethernet (presume wifi will be fine as well)

I have just installed Squeezebox server from the gforums webpage method, and it is telling me install was OK. I cannot however, get into squeezebox via the web interface, and cannot see any other method of doing it. There are a lot of articles on the subject spread over several forums, but there doesn't seem to be a definitive way of getting player and server to run with the SD card forming one music library which it will default to if the main squeezebox server is not running. Other posts refer to putting in a time delay into the init file to allow the USB library to be recognised.

Any kind person please point to be a Squeezebox on Jogglers for Dummies type publication please?
I have tried using the chown -R squeezeboxserver:squeezeboxserver /media/gforums/apps/squeezeboxserver-7.6.0-31297 command via telnet and SSH, and the command seems to go in OK, but with no discernible effect. And combinations of http://192.168.1.65:9000, http://192.168.1.65:9000! are not working at all

Thanks
