First off: GREAT WORK GUYS!!

Have you thought about: Windows Embedded

Wouldn't this be a more sutable environment on this device?

Can anyone run the tap.exe (Target Analyzer Pro) on the joggler and post there devices.pmq file, along with the patched ntldr ntdetect.com and boot ini files please? :D

@ pete_c

Did you get the 'devices.pmq' file from a 'clean windows xp sp3' environment, with no 'unknown devices' present?

I didn't look. I have only a USB hub, combo mini keyboard mouse (lenovo) plus the USB boot stick (plus a second USB stick) hooked up to the Joggler. The unknown devices might be the other 5 keyboard/mouse combos I tried to get to work with the Joggler. The first boot loaded up or attempted to load numerous drivers and continued for a while.

I played a while back with the newer XPE based on XPSP3 made for Point of sale machines on a first generation Intel Atom mITX board. I tried to keep the build small but it got "fat" after loading stuff like text to speech fonts etc on it.

I just looked and Microsoft doesn't even list it anymore.

Great work Dan! -

so far i've..

detached the 2nd screen that was being used and installed the brightness control.

flash works great in chrome - performance within the UI appears many times better than the linux based distros.

after a few mins play - the only major missing bits seem to be the external speaker and clarity over the hyperthreading support? shows 2 x cpu in device manager but only one chart in performace on task manager?

going to extend partition to use the full 20GB on my xternal USB.

First time seeing the Joggler hardware running anywhere near its potential - marvelous work!

Thats a pretty big overclock - show me a benchmark or something and I'll believe it :) if it is really overclocked, then I hope you have a replacement heatsink before loading the cpu ;-)

The highest I could do was 1.6 Ghz. Just for a little bit. I'll post some pictures. With it already running at 1.2Ghz that should be fine.

under load at 1.3ghz it get's hot and gets to the default throttle temp pretty quickly. under load at 1.6ghz+, it's going to get to the throttle temp much quicker when under load. I'd like to see proof via a benchmark that it really is running quicker rather than the output from some tool, as that would verify it really does overlock properly, and it isn't just some tool saying it is at xx speed when infact it has ignored whatever setting.

due to the poor cooling on the joggler, I would think overclocking (if it works), is of no real use. If you could get undervolting to work, that would be handy, as it might be possible to make the joggler run cooler by slightly reducing the temperatures. Don't think it is possible on this chipset anyway, and was ignored when I tried it (with http://www.linux-phc.org/)

What did you use to overclock btw ? Something like setfsb ? or another tool. (That claims to support os15w at least). If you do some benchmarks, please can you include some temperature plots is possible. Would be interested in seeing how temperature is affected.

Dan,

Great work on this, can I just post a quick version of what I think I need to do to get this working using my own build of XP?
I'm installing to a USB HD so,

1) Partition the drive: one FAT partition with the XPOM files from Eric's page
2) Second partition formatted as NTFS to dupe XP on
3) Mark second partition as Active?
4) Copy working XP across to NTFS partition - Replace VGA.sys with one from Eric's page, I'm also assuming XP usb .inf's need to be modded as per a "normal" USB install of XP?

That seems to be it as far as I can see, but doesn't seem to be working for me - I'm obviously missing something important LOL!

Regards,

Alex

Yes; pushing it just for a test. I'll put speedfan on it too.

Another thing I did today was write the image to a small hard drive. Boots really fast and runs really fast on the little IDE drive.

Problem was that I cannot plug the USB IDE drive into a hub; won't boot up this way; so I didn't have a keyboard/mouse to play with. Will copy over the image with the touch screen working.

Set FSB to X4 and get the following:

As Temp1 is the same for both, and @ 75c, I would think it is already throttling. (Temp1 may well be the acpi temp reading, and that is the one used on linux at least for the throttle temp).

without an overlock, and with a higher throttle temp, if the cpu is loaded, the temperature goes higher than this. hence it makes sense that it is throttling, which would also mean you are not really benefiting from the overclock.

a small benchmark would help give more information, and also run from "cold" for comparison.

Yes; overthrottling won't do much. I did see a huge difference though running off the IDE drive versus the USB stick. Night and Day difference.

Booting via the USB stick still takes a while (much more than a minute and less than 10 minutes).
