I've never thought to try a couple of higher end powered hubs. Will give it a try with a:

1 - Digi 7 port 1.X powered hub

http://www.digi.com/products/model?mid=461

Used a generic 8 Gb memory stick
- plugging in the powered Digi 7 port hub the Joggler's backlight doesn't light up (good thing).
- booted only off port #4 with the hub EFI configuration. It did not boot from ports 1-3 or 5-7.

2 - USB Gear Metal 7-Port USB 2.0 Powered Slim Hub

http://www.usbgear.com/computer_cable_d ... C210%2C212

Just to see what happens.

The powered hubs that folks have been trying but don't seam to work , I wonder if they will boot from port 4 then ?

Only port 4 worked on the Digi Powered hub. The rest of the ports didn't recognize the boot partition. I don't think though its just a port thing only. The reason is because all of the hubs (no power applied) I tried either would boot from one port or none at all; no rhyme or reason though. Wonder if its more a power draw thing and port number issue.

I could never get to an EFI prompt with my earlier testing. Now I am going to try it again with the Digi powered hub.

When I tried the 4,7,12 powered hubs earlier the backlight always went on when I plugged them in; so I quit playing with them.

Earlier and on a different endeavor I tried extending a Mimo USB monitor going to a cheaper style powered hub and while it worked; it did the same thing (backlight would like up all of the time) which made me quit playing with it.

I have a collection of these around.

Never thought to try a higher end powered USB hub.

I have an unusual problem.

I was using the android build previously and decided to try this XP build. Now when I boot up it sits at the O2 logo for my android build and stock build, but the XP still boots fine :|

I tried the reflash script to boot but that sits at the O2 logo too, yet the XP build boots up again...

Any ideas?

OK,, sorted it using the fs0:boot method with the keyboard and the usb reflash stick in a hub... had to use the hub even though the instructions for reflashing recommended against it, but thankfully it worked.

I'm assuming that something changed my bootup to fs1, though I cant think its anything I did.

Its working.. thats the important thing!

Just for info for anyone else stuck, I used the instructions from the Jogglerwiki here:

http://www.jogglerwiki.com/wiki/Using_t ... hing_else)

Recovering an unbootable Joggler

Before you do any of this, it is essential that you have a working usbstick with an efi partition and a working OS with all drivers. If something you do leaves the Joggler in a non-booting state (i.e. stuck on O2/OpenPeak screen) take the following steps:

Don't Panic
Attach keyboard and known good usb stick, and apply power to the Joggler
Press escape frantically (oh yes just like the good ol' days)
Once the num-lock key has lit, press escape a few more times. The process has worked if the numlock/caps lock key switches on and off when you press the appropriate key.
type the following: fs1:boot and press enter. You are typing blind thanks to the jogglers boot screen.
If it doesn't boot the USB stick repeat the whole process.
It it doesn't work repeat the whole process but type fs0:boot and press enter.

The reason for step 7 is that if you (or the joggler) has wiped the partition table of the mmc, then it is not seen as a file system, and the usb stick becomes fs0.

Thanks to the helpful info posted by our hardworking and loyal Joggler family! :D

Hi Photor! :)

(You can also visit Hi-PDA and download a Chinese language of Joggler XP from there. http://www.hi-pda.com/forum/forumdispla ... =62&page=1)

For changing the language of an existing XP installation, I found this info over at http://www.knowledgesutra.com/discuss/t ... e.html/p_3

EDIT: Chinese HiPDA forum member, xiaokaola says that this doesn't work when applying a Chinese SP.

Not tested this myself, but replies on that discussion thread seem to suggest that it works for european languages. You may find that it breaks something. I have used Windows Update on the Joggler, which works, but I don't know if a service pack will break the USBoot or EFI patch. Also the Chinese version of XP may be incompatible with the English version. As SP3 is already installed, you will need to fool XP into allowing you to apply the service pack again (I don't know how to do that). You will probably need to provide files from an XP installation disk when prompted.

Hi all, I kind of got myself in to a pickle because I wanted to install iTunes so it would install all the drivers but after the install, iTunes recommended a change of screen resolution which I attempted, but now the Joggler's screen is messed up (all icons kind of out of phase and doubled) and I can't change the screen res or even see the start menu to switch the Joggler off.

Can I fix this by connecting the hard drive with the XP image to another PC and modifying a file or do I have to start from scratch again?

Thanks

If you can vnc into the Joggler, you can change the screen res. The Joggler doesn't like non-native screen resolutions but vnc is unaffected which is handy for apps that are too big to fit on the native res desktop. From the display settings, you need to go into the advanced settings and list all screen resolutions, then 800 x480 32bit. I covered that part of the iTunes install a page or two back, but this is getting to be an old thread now! :)

Apart from that one screen that appears on first install, iTunes doesn't seem to have a problem with the native res, despite the warning.

Thanks Mevi, I've re-cloned the HDD and started again.
Never done VNC before so will give it a shot.

One thing to be aware of, the Joggler's native screen res is too small to click 'accept' on the first launch screen - iTunes also displays a popup warning about the screen res. You may get past that point by ALT+A or SPACE. If you are controlling the Joggler over VNC, then you can change the screen res to 1024x768 until you have everything set up, before switching back to 800x480 (you'll need to go into the advanced display adaptor settings to switch it back)
Might sound like a silly question but where can I find the "advanced display adaptor settings"?
After the iTunes fiasco, when I tried to change the display back, the lowest option was 800x600.

Tried the ALT+A and it worked.

I found a powered hub that works (without the white screen problem). It's the 4 port HP hub. P/N F5U232, but just encountered a problem when connecting my iphone. The iPhone pops up a warning triangle and a message about charging not supported and the Joggler does not recognize the iphone.

Has anyone had success connecting an iphone to their XP setup?

Keep trying, Mevi's downloads are normally very good, might be a server side issue

my joggler with XP has the NIC problem.
it is said in the Chinese forum that the NIC will work normally if one just (hot) reboot from the stock OS or linux to XP.
it is rather strange.

sorry for the slow downloads.... I was originally hosting it on my own S3 bucket which was good, but it was costing me around$15 to $20 a month for just the Joggler downloads!

I recently switched to a free File Factory host, but that only allows so many downloads per day and it's not the fastest. My Joggler XP can't be hosted here on the site like the free Open Source OS Linux or Android builds, so can anyone suggest another free alternative? Are there even enough people on the forum keeping a machine on 24/7 to seed a Torrent?

There's no fix for this problem. I wish there a way to get it working as 3 out of 5 of my Jogglers are like this too. :(

Box.net and Live Skydrive are free, but you need to zip your img by less than 100MB per volume.
