You have to utilize sudo for all of the scripts and commands. This caused me issues with the scripts that created the squeezebox user and xorg stuff anyhow.

I mentioned that I was able to get Squeezeplayer going on the Joggler. That said I cannot get it going on the OP2 (large Openpeak with two speakers) due to rights issues as I can manually run it fine using the of user.

This is using the same stick as the Joggler and creating a new stick for the OF2.
OK I see. thanks

OK so starting from scratch on the OpenFrame 2 (Cisco Home Energy Controller, Telio Touch) device.

Hardware purchased.

1 - Sandisk Cruzer 32Gb USB stick - tiny USB stick

Software utilized to write image to disk using Ubuntu

2 - Balena Etcher
https://www.balena.io/etcher/

Software utilized

1 - GParted in Ubuntu to expand second partition

Steps

1 - wrote Debian Bullseye image to 32 Gb USB stick using Linux Balena Etcher
2 - expanded EXT image to using entire 32 Gb USB stick
3 - wrote / edited boot network.yaml file for wireless (even though I know it doesn't work).
4 - plugged USB stick in OpenFrame 2 (Cisco Home Energy Controller, Telio Touch) device and wired Ethernet Gb switch
NOTE: first boot doesn't show IP for the Ethernet port until it sits for a few seconds then it comes up. It doesn't show a wlan0: address because there is no driver yet for it.
5 - booted with USB stick and logged in via user of and password joggler
6 - configured time to "America/Chicago"
NOTE: I get an error when doing this but it works. Must be the way I am typing it.

Code: Select all

[sudo] password for of:
root@openframe:/home/of# cd /usr/local/sbin
root@openframe:/usr/local/sbin# ls
of-clean of-flash of-install of-scripts.ver of-timezone
of-expand of-identifier of-netplan of-settings of-update
root@openframe:/usr/local/sbin# of-timezone set America/Chicago
Failed to set the given time zone.
root@openframe:/usr/local/sbin#
I reboot after this and ssh back in.
7 - configured password for root and adjusted ssh configuration for root access
IE:
cd / etc/ssh
nano sshd_config
change line to:
# PermitRootLogin
to
PermitRootLogin yes
8 - created a sudo pete and sudo squeezeplay user
9 - Install Broadcom wireless drivers
edit /etc/apt/sources.list and add
# Debian 11 "Bullseye"
deb http://deb.debian.org/debian bullseye contrib non-free
sudo update
sudo apt-get install broadcom-sta-source (takes a while to do this)
check to see sources
sudo dpkg-query -l | grep broadcom-sta-source *
Kept trying here until I got to this point:
root@openframe:/home/of# lspci -nn -d 14e4:
02:00.0 Network controller [0280]: Broadcom Inc. and subsidiaries BCM43225 802.11b/g/n [14e4:4357] (rev 01)

Took the Openpeak2 apart.

Easy. Used a thin screwdriver prying up on the glass touchscreen then a long screwdriver pushing on the tabs until the touchscreen lifted out.

Removed all screws holding the plastic cover on.

Replaced the mini pcie combo WLAN and BT card with an Intel 7260 which was the combo card in my Lenova laptops.

Works right out of the box. That said created new USB stick.

Noticed one more thing on the Openpeak 2 (with speakers in front) is that the sound when using speaker jack works out to amplifier but the sound on the built in speakers is still one with said build.

Bluetooth is working fine for keyboards and mice now. Only thing not working is audio bluetooth out. Found out that I have to use BlueAlsa which is old and I have been trying to install it and have been unsuccessful.

Sorted a few basic boot things today, the latest 5.10.141 image is a little less verbose and has a working caret again.

For those that like to hide the cursor at boot you can with

Code: Select all

vt.global_cursor_default=0
in /boot/grub.cfg.

Thank you Andy!!!

So tried the build 5.10.141. It works except for:
1 - no speaker output; only audio jack output.
2 - constant static on little front speakers
3 - Squeezeplayer power off and reboot do not work and only restart Squeezeplayer

My quickie fix got ride of the static but still only sound via the audio jack. For me this is better than sound coming from both speaker and audio jack.

sudo nano /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf
and added this which got rid of the static.
options snd-hda-intel model=generic

shutdown via command line works fine.

Hey, @pete - is this on the Joggler type, the OpenFrame 1 with DECT or the OpenFrame 2?

Its a OpenFrame 2 (Cisco Home Energy Controller, Telio Touch) device with the two speakers in front. Thinking that that has DECT and Zigbee chip. This one like the little ones are labeled OpenPeak. It originally came with a DECT phone. It came new in a black box with an OpenPeak logo, serial number on the box and well packed. I was able to get the OpenPeak DECT phone to sort of work with my Panny DECT phone system. I could pick up and did hear a dial tone but could not dial out. It does have a battery and RTC that works. With the Realtek chip updated it will sleep and wake with a magic packet.

Here is the manual of the few Openpeak devices I got new many years ago.

https://usermanual.wiki/OpenPeak/OPOF2H ... 147094.pdf

Here are pictures of another one that looks like an Openpeak 2 except that inside it was stripped of many chips and labeled O2 #1 with a marker.

viewtopic.php?f=4&t=2315&p=25339&hilit= ... ECT#p25339

I was able to pull the screen off to replace the combo WLAN / Bluetooth card using a plastic wedge (two of them). Popped right off.

Hi,
I tried installing bul-ext2-1028-43-bullseye-5.10.143op.img.gz on my OpenFrame1 (Joggler) and I got as far as of-expand OK but running sudo apt update & upgrade, I get this:

To answer my own question, it seems that the /boot partition is formatted as vfat which does not support hard links. I started again and expanded the USB drive and then just ran sudo of-install squeezeplay. This failed with:

This all started 10 hours ago when I tried to install Wireguard on my Joggler so we could use it when travelling. The install keeps choking here:

Code: Select all

/etc/kernel/postinst.d/initramfs-tools:
update-initramfs: Generating /boot/initrd.img-5.10.0-18-rt-686-pae

gzip: stdout: No space left on device
E: mkinitramfs failure gzip 1
update-initramfs: failed for /boot/initrd.img-5.10.0-18-rt-686-pae with 1.
run-parts: /etc/kernel/postinst.d/initramfs-tools exited with return code 1
Has anyone got this working? I thought Wireguard was built into the kernel, so it should be a straightforward install

Thanks, Paul. I haven't used my Jogglers for a long time so I'm not up to date with all the posts about the updated software.

The firmware stuff is unnecessary and the driver works fine without it - you can install linux-firmware to remove the warnings, but it's fairly chunky (which is the reason it's not installed by default). The link as you discovered is due to the FAT format of /boot. It's initramfs trying to create a link that the format doesn't support and is again unnecessary. I think the Pi also uses a FAT /boot partition - if anyone knows how they correct or suppress this error it'd be nice to add.

I'm guessing your

Code: Select all

sudo of-expand
went okay, but I don't know where this kernel has come from, and if that's been installed it'll be chewing up all the space left on /boot, which is likely where your "No space left on device" error is coming from.

Re: Debian Bullseye for OpenFrame

Post by pete »

Decided to try bul-ext2-1028-43-bullseye-5.10.145op on Openframe 2.

Tried via USB stick and on eMMC. Same error on both ...file missing while booting...never saw this before...had no issues writing to USB stick or eMMC.

Not fast enough...saids file: not found

Just boots to a blinking cursor and gets no ip. It is Gb wired to home network.

Will take a picture of boot...

trying

bul-ext2-1028-43-bullseye-5.10.144op next...

Wrote it to a USB stick. Did not expand it.

Just a blinking cursor...

trying bul-ext2-1028-43-bullseye-5.10.143op next...

Settled on back to bul-ext2-1028-43-bullseye-5.10.143op. I had issues with bul-ext2-1028-43-bullseye-5.10.144op and bul-ext2-1028-43-bullseye-5.10.145op.

bul-ext2-1028-43-bullseye-5.10.145op would write to eMMC and or USB stick except when booting it would say file is missing. Tried this a few times.

bul-ext2-1028-43-bullseye-5.10.144op would just error out when booting either from USB stick or eMMC.

Oh, looks to have been an issue with the Debian repositories. Don't know if they moved or changed something but some packages were 404, which preventing most things from installing, which broken everything that came after.

There's been a new kernel release, 5.10.147, so it's just compiling that and it'll try again with an image build.

UPDATE: Kernel built fine but apt is still looking for some .deb packages which don't exist. I'll clear all the caches and run it again.

Installed new kernal release 5.10.147 on an O2 Joggler. Works great Andy!! Thank you.

Also installed it on the Openframe 2. Sound did not come out of the speakers but earphone jack works fine.
