Ubuntu Bionic request .
Hi , would any good soul be able to put the Ubuntu Bionic that Roobarb has sorted and used for Jivelite on to a bootable USB stick build with a minimum desktop please
It is beyond my skills but it would be greatly appreciated if someone could get it going for tinkering purposes .

I have installed xorg (I don't know if that was necessary) and then installed xfce4.
I used a usb hub with a 16gb stick, mouse and keyboard connected to the joggler.
Made a user joggler (passwd joggler)
It doesn't boot into a desktop, just into cmd line as root.
I do, then and get the desktop.
I can use touch or the mouse on the desktop (just needs a click or two to start the mouse)
I have removed the hub and just plugged the stick into the joggler and restarted.
It still boots into root at the cmd line.
I ssh into the joggler from my Windows machine as user joggler and do
and the desktop comes up and I can use my finger on the touch screen (there is a mouse arrow) but that doesn't mess things up.
One problem is that I can't change the user from root to joggler
Later today I'll make a back-up and test it, then send you a link for the download.

Just tried lubuntu-core.
This failed at 99% with errors with dpkg (I could copy them as I was doing the install on the joggler.
Anyway I rebooted and the desktop came up with a log-in screen but would not accept my password.
That's it for today.

Here testing similiar except that I am using my majorly hardware modded Openpeak device.
Hard ware modifications are:
1 - internal 16 Gb plus 8 Gb SSD drives
2 - RTC clock modification
3 - USB hub glued to the back and wired internally.
I am doing the upgrade of OS in vivo starting with whatever I had on there.
It looks to be working so far...using update manager core.
I have done this a few times remotely with SSH but with this one doing the upgrade in a terminal window with a Logitech combo keyboard connected.

Note here started with Buzz's XUbuntu (Ubuntu 14.04).
Did two updates. First one from Ubuntu 14 to Ubuntu 16 then from Ubuntu 16 to Ubuntu 18.
Update took about 2 hours. Video works.

Note sure anymore on the desktop as I have changed it a few times since starting a couple of years back. I did have mate on there for a while and took it off.
It is my testing hardware Joggler used more for hardware edits than actual use.

I put the stick back into a hub connected to the joggler and restarted.
Got a desktop and was able to log on.
The touchscreen works but I could not use it in a terminal (I have installed florence).
I have tried a terminal on the jogger with

The web browser does not work, I get an Error message saying that it is an invalid file entry.
I'm sorry but I'm getting near the end of my ability to get this working (and, quite honestly, it does take up a lot of time).
Maybe you can try the update route as evidenced by Pete?
I'll keep trying every now and then but can't promise any success.

Might. Will give it a go on a USB stick today. Noticed that my old SSD usb sticks suck up too much power so have to go with a regular 16Gb USB stick.
So will utilize Buzz's last USB image (which was 14.X). Expand the image on the USB stick and enlarge the EFI boot partition and try. Note too that I will need to plug the Joggler in to a USB hub such that I can utilize both the USB stick and my Logitech wireless combo keyboard (K400).
Note I tried this way long time ago with the Seabios boot rom and did not get very far with it due to the video drivers.
Note this is Buzz's original Ubuntu 14.04 build except that I moved it to the internal SSD 16Gb SSD drive and increased the size of the EFI boot piece from whatever it was originally to 200Mb.
So this OS and update is all running on a ZIF connected SSD drive.
So maybe start with a 16-32 Gb original boot USB stick. Using GPARTED expand the EFI boot partition to something larger. Then using a local (not remote) session do the OS update. It did literally take hours but never stopped and always came back on reboot.
1 - in the terminal session with Ubuntu 14.04 running type:
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
2 -
sudo apt-get install update-manager-core
3 -
sudo do-release-upgrade
This will take maybe 2 hours to do and will bring you to Ubuntu 16.XX
Then do the same thing in a terminal window to take the build from Ubuntu 16.XX to Ubuntu 18.XX
Another 2 hours or so.
During this upgrade never lost the desktop on the Joggler nor video.
Goofing with the build now though have messed up the Gb and WLan interfaces and network access. It is connected to the hardware but not providing an IP address. It did work for a while then trying to tweak the two intefaces have no IP now and it is a PITA to work on the 800X480 display and see everything.
Will attempt to change the settings today via command line. Thinking it switched over to using NetPlan and eth0 interfaces which do not really exist now.

Specifically I'm trying to get Andy's Ham working or at least as many programs as I can on his build for Ubuntu , I think for 32 bit he uses 14.04 .

Started on the Joggler update today.
Using a hub and Logitech keyboard and a USB to microSD dongle here and only could find a 16Gb SD card.
Writing Buzz's latest Ubuntu build on the microSD card then expanding it to 16 Gb then using terminal to live update the OS to 16.04 then to 18.04.
Not sure yet how it will go.
The hub that I am using has USB ports and SD card slots (all sizes). Booted fine from the SD card slot so far.

Oh well...the SD card thing failed first reboot from the get go after the initial update.
I went to a USB stick reformatted and wrote Buzz's Ubuntu 14.04. Updated it and went to upgrading it from Ubuntu 14.04. I let it run all night here so it was very slow and it looked that it updated just fine. At the end when rebooting it debended and would not start with Ubuntu 16.04. I tried a few times and same results. The plan was to image the Ubuntu 16.04 USB stick first then update it to 18.04.
