Joggler Ubuntu 14.04.05 EMGD + Kernel 4.4.121

Post by -=xXx=- »

Hi...
I had some free time and made an image with Ubuntu 14.04.05 EMGD + Kernel 4.4.121
First aff all would like to thank roobarb! for great debootstrap script and compiling new kernel without gma.
Also Buzz for his emgd ppa and kodi and all the work he done. Thomas Karl for xorg emgd version. And Tomas-M for xlunch...and other Developers.

In the link you can find 2 images that I wrote to joggler internal 1Gb flash, first boot, second root, on the root partiotion there is enought space to install Kodi I tried 17.4 and it worked or Browser Firefox is also working good.
if you want a bootable USB you can write this partitions to it, I attached also grug.cfg for usb.
also if you write your wifi config in /boot/wpa it will autoconnect on boot. To do this execute sudo wpa_passphrase your_ssid your_pass >/boot/wpa

Very nice.

Just a couple of issues here.

I wrote the two partitions to a USB stick with DD. Then I checked the partitions with GParted and both had errors. Typically have seen errors with the EFI partition so ignored these. The root partition though had many errors and I could not fix them with GParted.

DD wrote root partition to the full USB stick which is 16Gb and I could not shrink it down with GParted due to the errors.

I then put the boot stick in an OP1 (verizon virgin with command line prompt). Booted up with errors and stopped asking to check partition.
Rebooted with a keyboard mouse and it auto fsck checked the partition and stopped again asking to F to repair partition. I did and it ran fsck again.

It rebooted and went to a desktop. Mouse icon isn't showing up but it is there as it works. Touch works..

Installed Kodi and it is running fine. Sound works. No crashes yet.

root@openframe:/etc/apt# df -h
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
udev 245M 8.0K 245M 1% /dev
tmpfs 50M 572K 49M 2% /run
/dev/sda2 905M 823M 37M 96% /
none 4.0K 0 4.0K 0% /sys/fs/cgroup
none 192M 24K 192M 1% /tmp
none 5.0M 0 5.0M 0% /run/lock
none 248M 4.0K 248M 1% /run/shm

none 16M 408K 16M 3% /var/log
/dev/sda1 31M 11M 20M 37% /boot

Added a video plugin from Kodi repository.

It then errored out and exited Kodi with the following error:

Failed to get size of gamma for output default
Killed

It went back to terminal window and started Kodi again.

Tried another video plugin called my jam tv.

same error as above. It did take longer to happen and for a bit it started to run the plugin.

It went back to the terminal and I started KODI.

This time went to my media stored on NAS.

Loaded up one 720 movie.

Same error as above. Also seeing errors trying to load the emgd driver...well it appears that it cannot find it.

restarted Kodi and will let it run this evening til tomorrow.

Interesting, I used same images to write to my other jogglers didn't have any problems. I can upload also usb img.
for the kodi you should install Buzz kody from ppa and after 17.4 on top in 17.4 brench something mising I didn't look into it.
I can play video from my libraries, stream to it and control it from web browser.

Yes it might be related to the corruption of the image? Upload the USB image and let me give that one a try. I installed Kodi 17.4 directly from Kodi first time. So I should first install Buzz's KODI from the Buzz PPA then after the Kodi from Kodi?

Works great!....no issues with install to USB stick, installed Buzz's Kodi 16.x, then installed new Kodi 17.x. Sound and video are working fine.

Added missing liblockdev1_1.0.3 I.

Adding music, video and picture databases.

Currently at

total 4.7G 919M 3.7G 20% -

Looks like it'll fit fine on an OP2. Right now it looks to be about 9 Mb over on a Joggler or OP1.

Thanks XXX. Yes do you think if I added mono to the build sans Kodi I could run a mono based touchscreen application?

Have you tried same build using seabios? That was an issue for me a while ago. This way I do not need to change the bios when going from Windows to Linux or vice versa. As mentioned previously here using a ZIF SSD now for running in Windows or Linux mostly the 16Gb ones. Dual bootin Linux and Windows would be nice.

Yes here added apt utils when installing Kodi.

With the original OP2 Kodi here started at about 1.5 Gb and over time it filled up with the sql DBs such that I moved them to a mysql server (did that with all of the Kodi boxes).IE: for movies here have about 2-3 K on the NAS. Not sure how much space the DBs use.

Removed GCC...

sudo apt-get --purge gcc-4.8

and some other stuff using

sudo apt-get autoremove

Shrank down the build a bit:

Yes intent here would be to utilize your stuff here on the OP2 (2Gb) rather than the OP1 (1Gb) any how.

With the add on you mentioned before then the procedure would be just installing the add on missing liblockdev1_1.0.3, then newest KODI eh?

Yesterday used test OP2 motherboard with Broadcom Crystal HD mini PCiE card. Installed drivers fine. Only thing now is that while the card is active I do not see it as a choice in Kodi. I am just writing about this because I was able to use it with first gen 2Gb XBMC OP2 build a few years back and had no issues streaming HD from the HDHomerun boxes. I can today at 720 but it staggers a bit at 1080 live TV streaming.

Yes support was dropped for the Broadcom Crystal HD cards as it was initially utilized for laptops then HD graphics became a non issue. It's only come back now with Ubuntu 16.04. BUT the support is a manual build of the drivers. For whatever reason the old XBMC Joggler build saw both the internal graphics driver and the external Crystal HD card. Here I can see it in the build using SSH. So I removed XBMC and reinstalled it thinking it would see the new HD card. It did not though.
