Hi Jon N,
I've tested the BBC streams and I get the same "connection failed" issue. However, when I tested the streams a few months back they all seemed to work fine.
I'm using the MP3 BBC streams. For example BBC R4 is MP3 (mpga) 128kb/s, Capital FM Birmingham is also MP3 (mpga) 128kb/s and works fine all day without any connection loss.
After looking into the problem, what’s happening is that the BBC streams drop out just after buffering (basically they drop a few packets). Most players such as VLC player and even squeezeplay ignore this packet loss and continue to play the stream. The lounge radio app however picks up on this and displays the error message "connection failed". The MP3 BBC streams also drop out regularly on all players especially during peak times.
I've tried reducing the reliability tag down in the XML script (jogContent.xml), the same with the audioquality to no effect.
This is both a BBC issue and down to bad programming within the lounge radio app. If it ignored the packet loss like other players no problem would occur and if the BBC didn't mess around with the streams every few weeks it also would be better.
Sonos also have the same problem with BBC streams:

Unfortunately I don't know how to solve this issue with the lounge radio app. Another problem is that the BBC have dropped support for mp3 streaming and are migrating to the DASH format
https://www.theguardian.com/technology/ ... -stations for Internet radio; this is probably why they are not bothered with the MP3 streaming issues. DASH streams are supported via squeezeplay and are very reliable so it's probably best to use that instead.

BTW thanks for the fix. Whilst there are loads of complex methods to stop the joggler phoning home, your fix was simple and worked the best.
