Okay - the long and winding road .....

Now you know why windows, etc. are more used than linux.

Hope it all goes well from now

At some point you should update LMS - leave until later ....

ps: stay in touch - nice to have some contact with the homeland!

Yep , first job to take a copy of this new stick 8-)
Yes I like the idea of Linux but it feels like I'm typing in a 48 k program on a ZX Spectrum out of a Sinclair User magazine and you get to the end and it doesn't work ;-) in the next months mag they tel you a semi colon or space was missing !! I guess that's why I am no coder .
Yep sure to do that , not far from where you came from here ..
If you ever need anything shipped over to Spain that won't deliver , I'm happy to oblige , me and Pete have done that both ways across the pond so he can vouch for me .
Struggling to get the web server opened up now ha ha too much vino

Switched to the old cerveza tonight after ast night's Ribero del Duero (best wines in Spain).

Linux is great - but you already see how uninformative the error messages are! For everyday use, I still stick to windoze. The other half has win10 on her laptop - easy to maintain and seems super-reliable I'm stuck on win7 on an ageing netbook - does the job.

main tV access is via amazon fire tv box using Kodi, etc. I really like the Australian ABC network, and some Danish and Swedish channels for tv drama and good films (all in original soundtrack). Radio & music exclusively via LMS

It's really amazing how much the media landscape has changed in the last 10 years. I recall tuning into BBC World Service broadcast from S.Africa when I worked in Mauritius almost 50 years ago (and thought it was a miracle!)

Beer and wine now I'm doing the time :-(
We have Sky TV ( my good ladys say so ;-( ) And for Music , Radio I have a DAB midi HiFi in the kitchen with a LMS Joggler , one in the Bedroom connected to an old mini Technics (bi wired) with great sound . Joggler in the Summerhouse with a Teac Amp and MS speakers with a turntable .And finally at the main TV I've got a Joggler the one you've set up for me serving LMS, PMS and plugged in to a Pioneer amp with large floorstanders MS55 Ti sounds great .

I just set up a fire TV box for my parents and was so impressed I want one myself , they must like it as they have maxed out their Broadband 60gig since I fitted it and now they've no net till Monday , new billing period !!

Media landscape , you are so right , I find my self overawed at times , when I was a teenager music was so hard to get ahold of and expensive I used to have a video in the recorder ready for any music to come on TV :-)
You can listen to anything , anywhere , any time now ....

I still prefer vinyl ha ha .

Different products allow unlimited streaming but more money usually , my folks had a 60gig cap with PlusNet (Owned by BT ) and this has been fine until I fitted their souped up Amazon Fire box ;-)
On the hunt for a new deal for them now .

I'm sitting in the soft play with my son at the moment and trying out my newly set up Plex Server , I must say it is working way beyond expectations at the moment , songs starting very quickly and return to menus fast , this is over standard mobile network as well :-)
Very pleased so far , this is what I wanted ....

@Castalla I want to Mount my photograph folder now :-)
It is in 192.168.1.254/usb2/mnt/Photographs
Below is what we did on the other thread to get my music folder showing up , would I just substitute the word music for Photographs and follow the same instructions ? I don't want to break everything so I'm just checking first ;-)
Cheers

Let's try this line in fstab
//192.168.1.254/usb2 /mnt/music cifs username=guest,password=,sec=ntlm
remove the other lines we've tried
sudo mount -a

Preferable to have a separate mount folder for photos

Do the following:

Login as root

sudo mkdir /mnt/Photos

Edit fstab file in winSCP (as root)

Add the following as last line:

//192.168.1.254/usb2/mnt/Photographs /mnt/Photos cifs username=guest,password=,sec=ntlm

Save file

In Putty

sudo mount -a

(no errors?)

dir /mnt/Photos

(you should see files listed)

Worth a reboot to check it's all automounting on startup

Each mount point is located on the Joggler as a folder

So, we create a new folder called /mnt/Photos [you can call it what you like!], You can also use an existing folder, but that can get confusing - easier to keep things organised

fstab tells the Joggler where to look to find content for the mount folder

What was the original fstab line which works?
