I can't guarantee the repository works at present. I was fiddling about with some dependencies last time - I plan to revisit / fix it all up and get it into the main joggler repository though when I get some free time (busy on other projects currently).

I got around to looking into this. Had to do some fake package hackery to get it all working nicely. I have added Kodi 14.2 to the repository.

Please try (from an existing xubuntu 14.04 image)

Code: Select all

wget http://malus.exotica.org.uk/~buzz/joggler/xorg.pref -O /etc/apt/preferences.d/xorg.pref
apt-add-repository ppa:jools/joggler-testing
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install kodi
please give me any feedback. Should it all be fine, I will release a new joggler 14.04 image with kodi 14.2 and package/kernel rollups.

Just getting to grips with Kodi on the Kitchen Joggler running XUbuntu, so forgive my ignorance in any postings about this or Xubuntu.

ITV Player plugin seems tempermental. I seemed to find that if I used the tip from http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=152888&page=17, changing the file /home/joggler/.kodi/userdata/advancedsettings.xml to the following:

Code: Select all

<advancedsettings>
<network>
<buffermode>1</buffermode>
<cachemembuffersize>0</cachemembuffersize>
<readbufferfactor>4.0</readbufferfactor>
</network>
</advancedsettings>
made ITV streams (live and catchup)work. Perhaps it depends on the program, not the Kodi settings. Anyway iPlayer worked fine from the off.

I'm using the default skin at the moment. Just about OK with my fingers. I would really like some sort of clock screensaver now.

I have set Kodi to run automatically at startup on a 16Gb stick (partitions extended to fill it via GPartEd Live CD). I'm really only trying it out for iPlayer/ITV Player in the kitchen. The 'Kitchen Joggler' was my very first one from back in December 2009 and has been hammered over the years. The internal flash has now just about had it and will only reflash 1 in 4 attempts. It always had a weird glitch where it would 'restore' back to an earlier installation unless I properly wiped it.

I've also switched back to the default advancedsettings.xml file and ITV Live has been working fine all morning today.

Code: Select all

<advancedsettings>
  <skiploopfilter>8</skiploopfilter>
  <gui>
    <algorithmdirtyregions>1</algorithmdirtyregions>
    <nofliptimeout>1000</nofliptimeout>
  </gui>
</advancedsettings>
It's a whole new learning experience! My experience of Xubuntu/XBMC/Kodi is quite limited. I did mess around with XBMC on an Android TV stick for a while, but never really found it that intuitive/friendly.

Hmm I've tried xbmc/kodi on the kitchen joggler but found myself always going back to your great PNPIII upgrade , I've just used it to get a flapjack recipe :-) my wife likes cooking programmes off YouTube and I like Radio6 on it .
With xbmc in the kitchen I found the skin not finger friendly enough and too fiddly ; there must be better skins out there now that xbmc / kodo /spmc has full ARM support , I must look in to it .
I've always thought xbmc via xubuntu would be the way forward for the joggler but it's a lot of work getting it right lol

The re-touched skin is quite useable, but not supported on Kodi 14.x (It may mostly work, but is marked as "broken").

Did the install work ok without error - and video playback etc ?

Dave seems to be having success BuZz .
I will try to install and play tonight and report back , I've been messing with Xboxes today :-)
I am surprised there isn't more 7" tablet type skins out there considering how many other HTPC ones there are .

I haven't connected to any shares yet, but Kodi appeared to install (and autoruns) fine. The superb iPlayer plugin works flawlessly too. I guess issues I'm having with ITV Player not always connecting to live streams are to do with that particular plugin, not Kodi itself. The only thing I had to do with the whole Xubuntu/Kodi set-up was to swap the wifi drivers around to connect Xubuntu to my Sky SR102 router as noted here.

Install fine without issue , it asked to remove xbmc at the end and I ticked yes to that ,
Upon startup mine said for re - touched, ace and hybrid "add on incompatible due to dependencies not met would you like to disable ? " so I said yes to all .
I downloaded some add on's next without issue ,
Ted Talks ( not tried yet )
Engadget , streamed an 720p vid of an Apple Mac review no issues .
Apple Movie Trailers , tried two , no issues .
iPlayer , streamed a movie ( part) no issues
You Tube , working great
Classic Cinema , working fine , streamed an old silent movie .
Looking good so far @BuZz , are there any things in particular you still want tested out ?
