S/PDIF output
Re: S/PDIF output
Well I got a powerd hub and it hasnt helped.
I also checked the check_snd() function and it is identical to that list apart from "IEC958" says "Speaker", whether set to Internal sound or USB sound using P'n'P
This is the soundcard I have which is a CMedia 6206 / CM106:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-USB-6-Cha ... 19c5607b3a
Can anyone link to a soundcard they know works for a reasonable price? I quite like this one to get coaxial spdif:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FANMUSIC-FM-6 ... 3cbb6a691b
but have zero confidence in that working!

Re: S/PDIF output
I wish I could post a link to the soundcard I have with optical out, but I haven't been able to find it on the web. I bought it years ago and it is actually a C-Media VOIP phone handset with soundcard function and S/PDIF out. It was dirt cheap but I can't find it, or an equivalent.
I would echo parody's plea for links to hardware that works. I would like to upgrade to something less ugly and it would also save others from making worthless purchases (I nearly bought the card that parody links to.)

Re: S/PDIF output
Is no one else using usb audio? Considering it is very popular to use these as psuedo squeezebox touch's, I can't believe everyone is using internal speakers or the headphone socket!
Re: S/PDIF output
This looks great.
Do you know if you can leave off the power and use a coaxial socket?

Re: S/PDIF output
please could you add the spdif info and pictures to the wiki?
Re: S/PDIF output
Yes, I think you can use coaxial socket instead of toslink one.parody wrote:This looks great.

Re: S/PDIF output
Great stuff, thanks for adding this to the wiki AR. Does this mean i could buy a DAC without the need for a usb sound card? Is anyone using this mod like this and if so what model did you buy?
Cheers for this.
Cheers for this.

Re: S/PDIF output
That's a tidy install. I have some optical sockets unused from my shuttle xpc if anyone wants them. I can put 'em in an envelope.
ARJunior, does the chip support microphone in, too? I have TabletPC working in XP and adding support for mic would be great.

Yes, STAC9202 supports stereo microphone too but I didn't take much attention as I've no need for it.Mevi wrote:ARJunior, does the chip support microphone in, too? I have TabletPC working in XP and adding support for mic would be great.
If I remember well, you can find microphone footprint on the PCB...maybe you can try it using this capture device :
Code: Select all
[ 0- 0]: digital audio capture
Re: S/PDIF output
I'll check that out, thanks.

Re: S/PDIF output
So does any body have any USB soundcard suggestions?
Re: S/PDIF output
Before adding toslink socket on Joggler, I used this cheap usb sound card http://www.dealextreme.com/p/c-media-vi ... ongle-8978parody wrote:So does any body have any USB soundcard suggestions?
C-Media CM108 chipset is used and you can easily add spdif output too (I've done it before modding the Joggler)
Re: S/PDIF output
Are you suggesting more soldering required?!! Suppose it's less risky than doing it to the joggler directly. Do you have details of doing it?
It's a real shame there aren't more out there using USB spdif. It's the main reason I got the joggler, and I can't stand to use the headphone out with all my flac files!

Re: S/PDIF output
Well in the absence of suggestions I have ordered a CM108 usb soundcard (same as that linked to above) and found this data sheet, which suggests soldering to pin 1 for spdif and pin 14 for digital ground should give me the the RCA SPDIF I am after:
http://www.qsl.net/om3cph/sb/CM108_DataSheet_v1.6.pdf
Would rather solder on a £3 USB soundcard than directly on the joggler, just in case I slip.
