could Joggler boot from 2nd USB/SDcard port if I fitted one?

Hi all
I have a couple of Jogglers which I use mainly for the radio app, iPlayer, Squeezeplayer etc. What with the recent Firmware 'upgrade' I have been thinking of alternatives to the openpeak OS - maybe Android, for instance.

I gather this runs from a USB drive, plugged into the single USB port on the Joggler of course. However I use that port to a small USB DAC which goes to an amplifier.

I know that you can hack in another USB or SDcard port, eg. from Justin Blair's pages. If I did that, could I set up the Joggler to boot (eg. Android) from that 2nd port, or does it always have to be the first one?

(Knowing this would help me choose whether to fit a USB or SDcard for the 2nd port)

Thanks
Jon N

you can also use a small unpowered usb hub. should be possible to boot from either port.

Yeah, but my granddaughter (3y.o.) likes to play with the Joggler ... anything like that wired up probably wouldn't stay connected for long...

Unless you use the wifi, you can swap that out for a usb stick. My shaky hands and poor soldering skills were not sufficient to get a working 3rd USB port, but if you are blessed with steady hands and a fine tipped soldering iron, you can keep the wifi and hide a USB stick inside. Full instructions are in the wiki. AFAIK, the extra created USB port works like the others and should be bootable.

I did the mod shown here http://www.jogglerwiki.com/forum/viewto ... =432#p8667 and am happily booting Android ICS from it. I drilled a small hole in the back of the case to pass the cable through underneath the wifi card. Mine isn't as neatly soldered as the picture though! You have to be careful not to bridge connections too.

Hi Mevi
I want/need the wifi, but I have good soldering skills and am confident I could fit something like the SDcard-to-usb adapter Justin Blair shows here:

If, as you suggest, this would be bootable, that's probably the way I will go. Just wanted to be sure that it will boot from this, with my USB DAC in the 'main' USB port.

FWIW, I built a couple of GrubDACs which I use with the Joggler - pretty nice, if you don't mind a bit of SMT soldering...
