Just got back from a short holiday. Nice work. I'm pleased the base image is being utilised for such things. exactly what it was meant for, and it looks as though you have done a good job. cheers.

ilovemyjoggler wrote:Hello. I thought I'd try this out (v0.8) tonight but am having a bit of trouble and can't get it to work. I may be doing something wrong. I've added wifi details in programs and it says I'm connected but it isn't downloading anything - is there a step I'm not doing? Thanks.

Edit: It says 'busy' in the top right hand corner - not sure if that is relevant. I'm also getting quite a few script errors (due to wifi connection?).
There are no further steps needed you have done it right.... Well do you have an ip address? Can you ping it from your computer? You will get script errors if you are not connected to internet and are trying to run addons which are independent of internet. On which scripts are you getting errors so I can try out and see. But I am almost 100% sure you are getting errors because of no network connectivity. What happens if you disconnect from Wi-Fi and use LAN cable?
Please also other users report back if you are having the same error so I can investigate it and try to reproduce it.

Also in all images debugging is enabled by default to polish the images out. Debug log is located under /root/.xbmc/temp/xbmc.log The easiest way to get it is to login into xbmc with WinSCP as root and go into that directory and transfer it to computer.

xbmc.log - This is the log file of most recent (or currently running) XBMC session.
xbmc.old.log - This is the log file from the last XBMC session. If XBMC crashes AND you have restarted it before viewing the log, this is the one you want.

More info about debug log. http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=Log_file
In next release I will include Debug log add-on. In the meantime you can also install it by youself http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=Ad ... g_Uploader

Can you add the TV add on's that come installed on BuzZ's builds please i.e iplayer, TV catch-up :-)
I love the ones you have installed by the way. I was streaming a movie off one last night and was listening to a radio station this AM on the radio app
Cheers
P.s I haven't tried it yet but do you think my external Behringer Dac will work if I just plug it in ( not at PC at the mo so can't try it,
Also quite a few Jogglers on here use the optical output mod, I wonder if this will also work?
Maybee these things will need to be altered seperatley by whoever wants them.

I can now get access. I came down this morning but still no joy with wifi. So rearranged my furniture to access sockets and router and did it via cable. It worked. Then I unplugged cable and tried wifi again (exactly the same way I did it last night and this morning) and it's working. Brilliant!!!

So I have added iplayer but can't for the life of me find TVcatchup with epg. Where's it disappeared to?

Next. Want to itvplayer add on. I can do this on mint as I use chrome to get the download and install via zip. Have no idea how to do this without chrome. Can you help me please.

Lastly - I can't get xsqueeze to work at all for me. It just hangs/freezes.

So I remembered this:
danfoshizzle wrote:So this is ubuntu based right, Could you not launch roobarbs squeezeplay with advanced launcher? you could then give this browser support also.
I have installed the advanced launcher...and that's as far as I got! (Fusion - I didn't understand it the last time I used it either) Any suggestions please as although xsqueeze may be great (and if I get it working I may love it) I'm very attached to the ease of use of the lovely lovely squeezeplay.

This is superfast to use - I've had to pull the plug a few times when xsqueeze has stalled but it hasn't affected start-up (yet). If I can get the above bits working too then I will be over the moon.

Thank you so much for your hard work and for sharing it!! :)

Well there will be some changes in the next release.

I will not add TVCatchup by default but can add a repository so you can add it by yourself. You can also upload repository with f.e. WinSCP and get access to file system on Joggler. The photo shows how to configure WinSCP.
For upload of files I suggest using folder 'media'.

Image

In next release there will be AirPlay support, probably Samba support so you can easy copy files into Joggler, but I have to remove plugins Icefilms and 1Channel (it will be possible to add them manually). This is because of some legal stuff :(

About Fusion installer and how easy it is:
http://www.xbmchub.com/blog/2012/04/24/ ... -for-xbmc/
http://www.xbmchub.com/blog/2012/04/30/ ... ch-movies/
http://www.xbmchub.com/blog/2012/04/29/ ... -for-xbmc/

About XSqueeze player I have just included it and did not test it because I do not have squeeze player media center. So i can not help you with this one. Maybe I will install it just to give it a try.
About advanced launcher: it is not as easy as just point to it. This release (XBMC for O2 Joggler) does not include any GUI for Linux as i do not want to have it. XBMC is called directly and not after GUI. I prefer to use executor to do stuff with scripts. Programs like browser and similar stuff depends on GUI and it is not possible to call it without them installed.

Sorry - bit clueless here! Where would I find f.e WinSCP? Is this done on the joggler or pc?

Do you mean remove from the joggler entirely or leave them disabled in the repository?
iLLiac4 wrote:About squeeze player I have just included it and did not test it because I do not have squeeze player media center. So i can not help you with this one.
Anyone any ideas?

Ha - it always makes me laugh when people say this as it usually means that I'll find it really hard! Cheers :)

EDIT: Not sure how (as my eyes were closed) but I managed to transfer and add on itv player and tv catchup. Thank you for the photo of the login screen - it helped - tho after login it was guesswork as I didn't know what I was doing but it worked! Thanks. I eagerly await development with squeezeplay or xsqueeze. ;)

Version 0.9 is on its way. Links will follow soon.

What is new in ver 0.9:
- added AirPlay support (tested with iPad to send music, photos, videos and it works great),
- added .flac file play support,
- added samba support, so you can easy copy files from PC to Joggler (by default it works with WORKGROUP. If you are using other name, you have to edit file /etc/samba/smb.conf. Also by default it shares /media/ folder),
- added gui option to enable debugging under XBMC,
- added repository for TVCatchup,
- added Fusion repository (Go under setting/add-ons/install from zip file/select Fusion)
- added repository installer addon,
- removed addons Icefilms, 1Channel, Tube+, Navi-X because of some legal stuff according to XBMC community rules (you can always easy add them by yourself),
- addon XSqueeze can now auto-find Squeezebox media server (there are no touch buttons, but maybe developer will integrate them or. will try to code it by myself). I have also tested it to control it over iPad, Android and it is working without problems (test were done with original Logitech software). Also I think the crashing was caused by some missing dependencies, what I have also fixed in version v0.9. It is ATM hard to use player on XBMC forO2 Joggler because of missing touch buttons on player interface but hopefully this will soon change.

To do:
- First I have decided not to include TVHeadend into the image by default but short how to will follow, someday :?: , because I want to keep the distro as small as possible and not everybody needs TV backend.
- I want to build auto updating distribution so the changes will be applied automatically. Do not to expect this in short.

BTW:
TNX for donations and keep going. With them I can already cover 1/3 costs for hosting ;)

Just installed .9 version and it will not connect to the internet over wifi, not tried ethernet yet.

I can confirm that it is definately on my network as I can ping it, SSH in, connect via Putty etc, it just refuses to connect to the outside world!

Any ideas?

hello. same thing happened to me with version 0.8. i know it sounds odd/unlikely but wifi only kicked in after i got the system running with a cable. could have been coincidence i suppose... wifi has been working ever since even after power down.

Hmm I think I know where could be the problem. It is buggy Network Manager that is used so the users can set Wi-Fi inside XBMC.
Try to connect with LAN cable and after boot up disconnect it. Just like 'ilovemyjoggler'.

Or you can login into joggler and write some commands:

Code: Select all

sudo nano /etc/rc.local
And comment out the line, so that it will look like:

Code: Select all

# dhclient eth0 > /dev/null 2>&1 &
To exit from editor press ctrl+X ans say Y to save.
After that reboot the joggler with command:

Code: Select all

sudo reboot
And your wifi should work. Report back how it was.

'Fraid to say editting rc.local didn't work, on the network page of XBMC it just says "Busy" for the internet connection.

Will try cable later today and let you know how I get on.

I've installed the latest version, and it starts to boot, but it just dumps me into the console at a Ubuntu login prompt, rather than running xbmc. Am I doing something stupid?

When I log in as joggler into the console, it also says 'No directory, logging in with HOME=/'. Looked in /home and it appears to be empty.

Thanks

Andy.

Home is empty. So this is ok.

What happens if you run:

Code: Select all

xinit /usr/bin/xbmc --standalone
Will try to create sd card from upladed image file, to see if it is working by me.

Thanks for the help.

X tries to start, but then drops back to the console - I see an error of

Could not init logging classes. Permission errors on ~/.xbmc

As it couldn't find my home directory, then ~ = / for my current login, so that doesn't seem right?

Should I be logged in as root or joggler?

[Edit]

Just tried the command as root and it seems to start up ok.

I also noticed that DNS wasn't working for me - My DNS server resides at 192.168.200.10 - It seems to be hard coded in resolv.conf as 192.168.1.1. Probably ok for most people but didn't work for me.

Yes XBMC in my release runs as root. So you must run xbmc as root, so just like you did.

Second about DNS it is configured in original image from Buzz.
I would try two options:
1. run

Code: Select all

sudo dpkg-reconfigure resolvconf
and configure as dynamic update.
2. You can also try to manually enter DNS server you can try to use your gateway (normally at home this is router) or. a public one f.e. 8.8.8.8 from google.

Reference:
http://askubuntu.com/questions/131323/e ... esolv-conf

I will still try to do fresh image tomorrow to test all things.
Also please report back if the first option did help so I can make it permanent in next release.

All this troubles about network is happening because of network manager witch is buggy in Ubuntu 12.04LTS. I have to stick with them, so I can offer users GUI setup of wireless network and find the ways around to keep it as good as possible. This is why I need any feedback of users about network connectivity. In next release I will give users option to decide which network will they use and the script will do the staff and will reboot Joggler and hopefully after reboot you will be online. I know not very elegant but it should work.
