Have I understood correctly that o2 will be sending out an update to try to fix the issue of those stuck on the o2 update loop? Will they let us know before they do it so we can switch the jogglers on? I would ring o2 to ask but when I rang them after the update none of the staff I spoke to had even heard of a joggler - they didn't know what it is.
Reflash it first. I doubt that anything can be done update-wise unless it has booted into an OS.

I think they are applying incremental updates, based on MAC address. So if you have a Joggler that has already partially updated and then you reflash it backwards then the next update leaves you with a partial install. As in my Joggler that now only has (only) 6 applications all of which are system utilities, and two of these are useless on the Joggler hardware (phone) - not one real app.

O2 are endorsing this forum, handing over support and yet crippling the device in the updates.

I am amazed that there is no-one from O2 here on this forum , or contactable by email or phone to resolve these issues. The upgrade program obvioulsy has inadequate technical resource and quality control. Continuing to break existing customers devices that were previously working OK , especially for users that have no technical skills at all is , I would suggest, a very precarious path...

I'm leaving mine booting to an alternate OS until the final version USB manual upgrade tool is available.

With effect from today I have noted a new, very unwelcome, start up behaviour on my two jogglers, which were upgraded last week. Both connect wirelessly.

Earlier behaviour in this firmware, and the previous firmware, was that the system would:
  • Boot up, and in a few minutes bring up the O2/Openpeak display screen, with all its apps.
Sit around for a couple of minutes or so, without any network access, displaying the Monday 21 September 2009 date.
After wireless network access is established:
Restart the O2/Openpeak display screen, with the correct date & time.
Behaviour today is:
  • Boot up, and in a few minutes bring up the O2/Openpeak display screen, with all its apps.
Sit around for a couple of minutes or so, without any network access, displaying the Monday 21 September 2009 date.
Thereafter continue to sit around, not advancing the time, with a very unresponsive display, and unable to start up any of its apps.
    After wireless network access established:
Continue, uselessly, as is. No update to the screen display to indicate that the Joggler does, indeed, have network access.
Restarting the O2/Openpeak display screen, by killing './tango /openpeak/gui/opphone.swf', resolves matters.

I suppose doing this by hand replicates what O2/Openpeak used to do after wireless network access is established. Through their 'phone home' server ? One might ask: "Why has the behaviour changed ?".

Sigh.

I think I can sniff a consequence of something the O2/Openpeak developers have just done to their servers. I wish they would test in house and not on me. :(

I suppose that I should check out behaviour with wired access.

Hi BuZz

Just wondering if you had heared anything from your friend over at O2 with regards to this new update were all hoping on. I finished a 45 min chat with an O2 engineer today who assured me that O2 are not releasing 'ANY' new firmware (Openpeak or otherwise), nor providing any more support, updates or anything at all basically :o :o . I was just wondering if you might have knew something that we dont so we can keep our hopes up a little  Also i was wondering if you could re-post the Openpeak firmware that you had, because i just cant find one anywhere for love nor money.

Thanks ever so much for all your help......we'd all be lost without you guys :D :D :D

Cheers

Deon

Im posting any information I get. I was asked to remove firmware for now as there are issues they want to work out. Perhaps you spoke to someone who didn't actually know the situation.

Thanks Mevi

I tried the joggler OS but after entering my SSID and WPA passphrase it enters an endless loop of trying and failing to connect to the network

In the end, I reflashed using the reflash tool at BirdsLikeWires and then ran Tarkan's installer. Happy days.

Just wondering if it will "upgrade" to the openpeak software again. I have the reflash USB stick at the ready if it does.

Mine has updated but the tools icon is not showing, this is preventing me from setting the correct time date!! Read about putting Android on it, tried downloading it to my usb stick but nothing works! Can someone help by either helping me reboot with the new OS or better still Android!

many thanks

Did you use Win32DiskImager (or some other disk imaging software) to write the image to your USB stick? The image has a boot partition but it needs to be written to the stick properly; just copying the .img file won't work.

JogglerSqueeze, I suspect the updates will only apply OTA for a limited time until they really stop support. They are able to roll it out gradually to specific MAC addresses, I have read here somewhere, so your Joggler may already be flagged as 'updated' on O2's database.

Jay, all of the OS releases here on the forum are distributed in the form of a .IMG file, which you will need to 'image' a USB stick or USB HDD with. Win32DiskImager is the software that most Windows users use to wrte the .IMG file to their USB stick. The .IMG file is usually compressed in a .gz file which can be unpacked using 7-Zip.

You can download what you need from:

https://launchpad.net/win32-image-write ... binary.zip
http://www.7-zip.org/

Unzip win32diskimager to a folder, plug in your flash stick, run Win32DiskImager and select the drive letter of your USB stick. Click the folder and browse to the .IMG of Android/Ubuntu/XP that you have downloaded and click 'write'. Once finished you should be ready to boot the Joggler with this new stick.

a more comprehensive set of instructions are at http://joggler.exotica.org.uk/ubuntu/

good luck!

My joggler has been permanently attached to an Ethernet cable. Along the top of the screen it has time/ date (correct). Then 8 icons ,6 greyed out. Second from left is wireless live then far right home live but both live icons are unresponsive. It's been like that for a week or so.
Anyone have similar?

OK. I updated using the 1st new firmware that O2 asked Buzz to try. Then it got updated over the air. However in my attempt to install PNPIII I had a problem and lost a few key files - my own fault really. No problem (I thought) - I reinstalled the new firmware.

It now won't update automatically. I'm guessing that it's a problem with my Mac address having been flagged as already updated. So my wireless connection is now only partially working and I'm using wired connection until this gets sorted.

Will O2 release the final Image to help me (and others) with this predicament. I tried using the normal communications channels, but got a canned response, and seeing that buzz has a lead in O2, perhaps this would be a better means.

I've been a persistent lurker here for the last year or so, and many thanks to all those who've contributed to the development of the joggler, I've tried Ubuntu, Mint, and Android 2.2, 2.3 and 4.0, but I keep going back to the original OS for some peculiar reason!

Thanks
Charles

Thanks Buzz.

Hopefully O2 will come through and not leave a lot of customers in the lurch. At the very least a final Image should be made
available to all those who have had issues over the last few weeks

Am I now too late to get this update wither officially or otherwise?

I only just found out about O2 finally killing off the Joggler (I assumed they had done that years ago), and would like to have the latest update in case I ever decide what to use it for!

I imagine theres a lot of people like me who had forgotten all about it who would like to update it before support finally goes away.. If anyone at O2 reads this it may be nice to get O2 to email customers and let us know they were releasing a final update before killing it off for users who havent turned it on for months/years.

To quote our man with contacts on the inside, posting yesterday morning...
The update is still being worked on by o2. It has not been forgotten.

The latest version of the firmware is soon on its way to o2. I will maybe be receiving a copy of the update on friday or next week. it has been reported to me that it should fix the date/time issue.
