BuZz wrote:...you could also try editing "/etc/modprobe.d/joggler.conf" and swapping round the wifi drivers.

Code: Select all

# rt2800usb is the kernel wireless driver. was problematic on older
# kernels but may be better on newer than the vendor driver.
# rt2870sta is the vendor driver packaged on the joggler ppa
# if one driver is problematic, consider switching
blacklist rt2800usb
# blacklist rt2870sta
comment out blacklist rt2800usb (adding a #), and uncomment blacklist rt2870sta (removing the hash)
Just want to say thanks for this tip. I had to use it to get the latest Xubuntu connected wirelessly to the latest Sky SR102 fibre router.

Hi,

is there a problem with the download server at the moment? Having tried a couple of versions of Xubuntu 14.04 LTS (Trusty) (Joggler Image v1.1) (btrfs and ext4) and got kernel panics, I actually bothered to run the md5 checksum, and found neither matched. Have tried a couple of different browsers - no change.

thanks,

I have had some problems with the hardware - and I am moving the server as soon as possible. Please try again though - I have checked the md5sum of the images and they seem ok - I just downloaded one and the md5sum matched too.

I did reboot, and the system was not happy, so it may have been my end. About to start rsyncing data to the new server. Could take a while ~250gb to transfer.

Downloaded and extracted on to 32gb SanDisk ultra fit , plugged in to port 4 of a 7 port cheap usb hub with a tablet case keyboard and mouse , booted up very quickly .
Was able to start Kodi and download iPlayer, YouTube and TedTalks without issue , streamed from YouTube and Ted Talks and left iPlayer running with BBC 1 live stream , looking good so far , will have another play tomorrow :-) .

Thanks. seems to be working well then :) I'm considering a patch so the hardware video decoding is only on for h264 videos, as it often doesn't work right on xvid etc, but I can always push out an update later so I think I will release. Thanks for testing.

New images released - see first post in thread. Note: the joggler linux page is now part of a new site that is a WIP blog that connects all my projects together. Still plenty to do on the site, but the images should download ok.

Whoops - spoke too soon!

Am now getting 'Error: script failed!: iPlayer' when trying to watch a live channel.

I've tried uninstalling / reinstalling iPlayer, and I've even reinstalled Xubuntu to the USB stick, to no avail.

Ahaa , that explains it , for a public service , the Beeb seem hell bent on making things hard for people .
I feel sorry for people with devices that their changes have rendered useless , at least we have options :-)

I have a Joggler running Buzz's Xubuntu sitting next to my bed and it's connected to the internet by lan. I'm wondering if it's possible to use the Jogglers wifi as an accesspoint?

I've installed Xubuntu 14.04 on my O2 Joggler, and I'm happily running Squeezeplay within that. I've got a mouse plugged into a USB hub, and I've noticed that there is a limited amount of mouse interaction within Squeezeplay - e.g., the mouse will 'wake up' a sleeping display.

Is there any way of getting more general mouse interaction, i.e., being able to select from menus?
