No, this is actually me trying to compile... Running into this error though:

Re: JazzMod:Source InDev 1 (coming soon)
I assume you're referring to the tar error:
tar: Option --overwrite is not supported
What version of tar are you using? GNU tar has this option. I dont think BSD tar does (mac os) but I would have thought you could download a version of GNU tar.

I am - thank you very much! Downloading GNU tar at the moment I did think it would be something wrong with my setup as I had never encountered that issue with Ubuntu 11.10.jeffers wrote:I assume you're referring to the tar error:

Re: JazzMod:Source InDev 1 (coming soon)
Which version of Ubuntu are you using now? As I did read on the Android site that JB would only build on the lastest version of Ubuntu 12.04 64-bit...even if you were building for x86.jazzmista wrote:I am - thank you very much! Been setting up my own dev environment to build JB for my Joggler and a couple of old iPAQs I want to revive...have everything ready...just need to down the source via git...8.4gb of code
Re: JazzMod:Source InDev 1 (coming soon)
I'd really like to have a go at doing a build of Android for X86 and for the Joggler.
If anyone could post some links on how to make a build environment and how to use the resources mijuu (mporting) has provided, that would be fantastic !
I've downloaded the files mijuu has made available ( http://www.mporting.com/download/ ) and had a look through them. I am presuming that the source overlay is something you would put over the top of the source gained from the repository. Is it possible to download the source without having a github account ? What tools are necessary to compile and make ?
I have found some details at :
http://www.android-x86.org/getsourcecode
http://source.android.com/source/initializing.html
Is this all I need ?
What sort of hardware do I need ? I don't have anything particularly fancy. Got a bit of a shock when I saw the requirements for a virtual machine, when it was stated to create an environment with 16GB of RAM - that's a lot of memory !
Thanks in advance for your help.

Re: JazzMod:Source InDev 1 (coming soon)
Thank you for this.
One quick request for later versions - could you use .zip or .gz format to compress the images? The 7zip program can't be used to just extract the file to the standard output, so you have to extract the thing rather than just send it to the flash drive directly.

Yup, you've got the right links - follow those guides I currently build on 4GB of RAM (more on that in a couple of posts )Juggler wrote:I'd really like to have a go at doing a build of Android for X86 and for the Joggler.

Right, I owe another round of apologies... Mac OSX + Android really don't work well together. Well, it is an Apple product I've just ordered the last parts to finish upgrading an old box, so in a few days I will have a dedicated Ubuntu 11.10 Joggler Build PC, assuming that Ebuyer don't mess me around.
As I said (about a month ago), I'm really sorry for the delay and I'm trying to get a useable build to you all, especially the kind soul who donated the OpenPeak 7E for me to get WiFi working! I've got the right files now, just in the wrong order...
Re: JazzMod:Source InDev 1 (coming soon)
Looking forward to it! Any reason for Ubuntu *11*.10? Thos Ebuyer budget PC's sure look tempting, if that's what you are going for
Meanwhile...What's the state of play r.e. Android 4.1.1 Jelly bean and Joggler. It runs great on my 'old' phone, well if 1 year can really be considered old!!!

11.10 is the only thing I've managed to get JazzMod compiled on!acesabe wrote:Looking forward to it! Any reason for Ubuntu *11*.10? Thos Ebuyer budget PC's sure look tempting, if that's what you are going for

Not going for the budget PC, I've got an old AMD dual-core (the height of technology) low-power box that I can leave running. I'm putting the old RAM from my main PC in there (4GB), which is what I was building on before.
Re: JazzMod:Source InDev 1 (coming soon)
That's good to hear that you've done a build with 4GB of RAM ! I've managed to find two 2GB sticks and have put that into my single core 64bit (old) AMD, which I hope to do a build on. Thing is, I have Ubuntu 12.04 on there. Do you think that is going to cause a lot of problems ? I think I will have a go and see what happens. Never compiled an OS before and 8GB of code is just colossal ! Still I hope it is a good way to start learning all sorts of stuff about Android.jazzmista wrote:Yup, you've got the right links - follow those guides I currently build on 4GB of RAM (more on that in a couple of posts )Juggler wrote:I'd really like to have a go at doing a build of Android for X86 and for the Joggler.

Are there are any tips you have to making a build environment and testing it ?
Also, when you get compile/make errors/issues, do you have any tips on finding solutions/workarounds to them ?
Look forward to hearing from you...
Re: JazzMod:Source InDev 1 (coming soon)
Ubuntu 12.04 shouldn't cause any problems, it is supported by AOSP. It's the best way to learn about Android IMHO, I've learnt loads working on JazzMod. Just follow the links you posted earlier and you should be OK - the best way to test the build environment is to try it!Juggler wrote:That's good to hear that you've done a build with 4GB of RAM ! If I get any errors, I Google the error text (of course - its their operating system ) followed by Android-x86, then Android, then just the error text (without any additional search terms). If that doesn't throw up any results, then I take to Twitter, which normally resolves the problem (I have a lot of Android-minded followers). If you run into any problems, tell me as I've probably run into them before now!
Re: JazzMod:Source InDev 1 (coming soon)
Thanks for your comments on building on Ubuntu 12.04.
IMHO Android is going to be the most used OS in the world soon, if it is not already. As smartphones get more powerful and widespread and the same for tablets, there doesn't appear to be any significant contenders in the free/low cost OS area. But it will be interesting to see how Ubuntu on Android goes, but it still depends on Android, as I understand it.
Have you had a look at the code ? What documentation is there for Android at a high level, to understand the components of the OS ?

My ICS image died again today. Any sign of a solution to the shutdown issue?
Re: JazzMod:Source InDev 1 (coming soon)
Not yet, sorry! I'm new to this and I keep getting distracted by other things... going to spend this morning trying to fix issues. Here goes...QuackingPlums wrote:My ICS image died again today. Any sign of a solution to the shutdown issue?

Re: JazzMod:Source InDev 1 (coming soon)
Hehe good luck and thanks! I appreciate your efforts!
I really hope that the problems I have can be fixed by implementing a proper shutdown - the Joggler I have that runs the plain ICS image without anything further installed from the Play store seems to be a lot more resilient to power outages than the one that runs all my other apps. If I can get the second Joggler anywhere near as resilient as the first one then I'd be a happy bunny. If it turns out to be more complex then I'm out of ideas...

Hey guys,
I've just come across this "LIBHOUDINI", apparently it emulates ARM on android x86. Some of my guys are using at work with some code which is only ARM supported and it works fine...
Instructions appear quite straightforward to put into android x86

Re: JazzMod:Source InDev 1 (coming soon)
still no Ethernet support? or am I missing a trick to enable it?
thanks
thanks
Re: JazzMod:Source InDev 1 (coming soon)
Another month, another excuse...
I'm still trying. Due to a few issues, my old build box is no longer a build box (as some of you may have seen on Twitter a while back, had to reconfigure it for my brother). Got a day to get this sorted so setting up a build VM. I'll try and incorporate libhoudini as well
So, hang tight, I really want to get a release out soon!
