Borked Joggler low effort fix please

Post by chazzy2501 »

Sorry I'm so lazy but my Joggler has finally stopped working after many years graft being a clock in the kitchen.

I was wondering if there is a low effort way of putting something useful on the joggler that would allow me to overwrite the stock os (no dongles) but would offer similar functionality. Basically a clock most of the time and maybe occasional radio.

cheers!

I'm a Windows user, so I can't do sudo compile things!

Hi , welcome to the forum .
What do you mean by stopped working ? What do you have on screen at the moment .
Assuming the stock OS is just corrupted , you have several options .
1 Reflash stock OS
2 Reflash stock then install PNP III which has lots of extras .
3 Flash Squeezeplay OS on to internal

If the internal memory has actually broke and won't accept a re flash then a tiny USB stick either on the side or internal on the Joggler would work .

Try the reflash stock OS a few times. Once it runs it takes a few minutes and at the end of the update will shut down your Joggler.

If it continues to reboot in the middle of the flash it could be the eMMC is trashed or you have some sort of hardware issue.

Yes , for PNP III first reflash your Joggler with stock OS then after all is good with that and it's booting again you flash PNPIII .

Thanks for the help, not reading the instructions carefully I came unstuck for a while. But now I've got the internal mem flashed with the latest clean image. Unfortunately as you are painfully aware not a lot works and "the lounge" is missing. (about the only thing I used) I've decided to image squeeze play OS onto it instead and see how that goes ;)

I was unsure what pnpIII was going to do as the apps it described were already in the clean OS? that and a few that no longer worked?

Anyhow you've saved it from the dump! Thanks again!

OK, the Squeeze play OS is great! I love the world clock, and I get all the radio I want... Perfect Kitchen device (and web controls)

Plus it now doubles as a white noise machine!

cheers again!

Chazzy , that's great :-) we aim to please ...
If you ever feel so inclined Squeeze play also lets you stream from a local server of music running on say a Raspberry Pi it's called LMS Logitech Media Server .
Also , with more than one Joggler you can sync them all very easily so they all play at the same time .
I have 4 running together around the house .

I must say that Squeezeplay OS has never run better since I moved Logitech Media Server to a Raspberry Pi. The easiest, peasiest way to do this is using Max2Play. It allows you to stop, start, restart and update to the latest nightly version from a user-friendly web interface on your computer, without having to use command line tools like PuTTY. Very newbie friendly.

I’ve defected to Plex as a media server on my RPi. Lots of mp3 files were throwing up bitrate error messages and refusing to play. It seems to be quite a common problem and I gave up trying to fix it.

I have to admit, I've more or less ditched using mp3 files, or any stored digital format for that matter. Streaming or vinyl are my preferred options nowadays. I honestly can't say when I last listened to an mp3 music file.
