Port 4 on your hub, I bet. :) We think it's hardcoded in the EFI bootloader. I'll add that to post #1.

Windows doesn't come with ASIO drivers, so you would need to supply one from the hardware manufacturer. The alternative is to use ASIO4ALL, which is an ASIO driver for a wide range of audio hardware. I'm pretty sure any generic USB soundcard will work with ASIO4ALL.

yes, it was port 4. ;)

I know that windows doesn´t come with ASIO drivers. The issue I have is that the installer of my audiocard doesn´t install as expected.

have a look here

http://download.esi-audio.com/?w=esi&p=53&g=2&l=en

download driver and control panel version 2.3 , and start setup.exe .

you´ll find the user guide here http://www.esi-audiotechnik.com/downloa ... nglish.pdf

on page 6 in the manual you can see the setup dialogs. i can choose the destination location, press next, and that´s it. other dialogs don´t pop up anymore.

under program files there is an esi folder, but my card is only recognized as a generic one.

what´s going on here? on every other pc it installs fine. downloaded the driver files 3 times ... there is something in this build preventing me to install the custom asio and wdm drivers.

thanks!

Hmmm.....

Thinking....

When you have unzipped the driver file, you could try right clicking setup.exe and running as administrator. This Joggler XP reports itself as Windows Tablet PC, but I don't think that's gonna be a problem, however XP has been modified quite a bit to both boot on a pure EFI 1.0 machine and to boot from USB, before other tweaks to XP to suit the Joggler.

The instructions suggest to leave the device disconnected while installing drivers, so perhaps you'll also need to uninstall that unwanted generic USB driver from device manager (right-click My Computer). You could also try right clicking the device in device manager and update the driver, directing windows to install from the unzipped driver folder. You probably won't get the ESI control applet installing just the driver, but that might not be a problem unless you plan to use those functions. 24bit ASIO or WDM might be all you require.

Another thing that might be stalling the install is that there are a large number of services set to manually start or disabled entirely - this was done to conserve system resources. Just guessing that the installer has dependencies on some services. To enable everything, go to the eXPerience folder and double-click DEFAULT.REG to add to the registry, restart windows and try the install again.

Could it be that the install dialogue is too large to fit on screen and you are missing something that is just off the bottom of the screen? If you connect to the Joggler with VNC, you can change the desktop resolution to 1024x768 (the Joggler screen will blank), changing it back later on to 800x480 32bit by going into the advanced adaptor settings and clicking display all modes.

thank you for your hints.

the problem is, if I delete the device in device manager, every time i plug it in again it is found as a generic usb device. it also does not update the driver if i manually locate it to the esi drivers. it simply does not recognise the device as an esi device, that is my issue here with this build.

I´ll investigate further this weekend and simply report back with hopefully a solution. it´s a bummer that my joggler has the ethernet nic issue under xp, it would be a fantastic build for my joggler!

Hi Mevi,

Is there a Chinese version XP available now?
I saw your discussion on hi-Pda, but I didn't find the link for downloading the Chinese version XP.

Thanks!

I'm sorry to say that the Chinese language version is broken. :( During my testing and imaging the disk, the Windows system files have become corrupt and it will no longer boot. A disaster, I worked for about a week on that. :x The chinese language version install was 1GB larger than the english version with the MUI packs. I will upload the MUI packs for anyone who wants to build a multi-lingual version of XP for the Joggler.

Well it's a full featured version of XP Pro, so I expect you'll get the hardware and drivers installed - I can't say the route you're going will deliver good results on a TV though. Windows Media Center is not part of XP Pro or Tablet PC, so you will need to find an alternative or google for ways to hack/add Windows Media Center edition onto my Joggler XP and hope that your USB video adapter works - the info is out there as I did the same to hack in the Tablet PC components. In my tests going back some months back, media center edition doesn't work on the Joggler GMA500 video chipset, you just get a blank screen.

You could check out the 20.1" Joggler thread in the hardware section of the site and see if your HW skills are up to the job.

I don't suppose anyone could tell me how to, if possible, shave some megabytes from this image to fit on a 4gb usb stick?

If you follow the .VHD instructions to mount it as a disk, you can use minitools or similar to get it shrunk. There's not a lot of free disk space in the image though, due largely to the 742MB swap file. a few hundred MB. After formatting your drive, it'll be a tight fit.

If you downloaded the .IMG file you can convert it to a .VHD with the utility listed in post #1.

Mevi,

How are your USB sticks holding up with XP? I have lost one of eight SSD sticks and paid a discounted price to replace it. The USB SSD stick that I took apart and put next the WLAN card is still doing just fine here.

I never got my build of XP running well enough from a USB stick for my own personal use - a download machine / streaming music & video across the network both require a decent sized disk so they both run off HDD 24/7 with minimal maintenance. Just occasionally they don't restart from a scheduled soft boot, sticking at the O2/OP logo and need the power cycled. They're on the floor under my bedroom drawer unit. A lot of flickering lights on the HDDs and the switch which I need to cover up with some duct tape. :D

I remember reading that one of your Kingspecs melted? Aargh!

I never killed any of my USB sticks running XP for a few months at the end of last year/ beginning of this year and I can't tell if their lifespan has been shortened when I was stress testing for my builds. The Kingspec SSD I bought from Hong Kong never arrived and the seller quibbled when I let them know. At the time I just didn't need any extra hassle in my life so I just let it go. :|

Just in case anyone is interested in getting Squeezebox / Logitech Media Server running on this build.... :

After a bit of digging and dusting off my MCSE skills I found out that it was missing C++ libraries.

Install the following on your system and try to run LMS / Squeezebox server again. Works a treat!

My pleasure! Also (not sure if VNC does this) I use Teamviewer for Windows remote control (it's freeware). So I installed Teamviewer on your build and it enables you to change the resolution of the remote joggler on the local machine (if that makes sense!).

So, I'm running teamviewer on the PC and connecting to the Joggler then resizing it to 1280 x 1024 meaning I get the proper big screen on the PC. Amazing :)

Yes, the same is possible with VNC. useful if you're installing something like iTunes which has one dialogue box bigger than the Joggler's screen.

If you wanted a quick and easy way to change resolutions on the fly, you can setup a shortcut to: c:\progra~1\nircmd\nircmd.exe setdisplay 1280 1024 32. Good thing about doing it this way is that should things go wrong, a shutdown and restart will return you to whatever the resolution is set up under windows display settings.

Yup Mevi's suggestions of using VNC / nircmd have helped a lot here with the automating of the Jogglers in the house....taking the versatility of the Joggler to a bit more than just a nice do all display. (master bedroom has three; XP, O2 and Linux OS's running 24/7)

Last night/this morning forgot the TTS was on the related MB nightstand Joggler and "by accident" woke up the wife at 2 AM...

I utilize the Jogglers in the Home automation setup and while I can remote via the touchscreen application I lean towards utilizing nircmd in XP mode with another application running in the backround to turn off the displays / screensavers etc remotely. One example is using motion detectors in the rooms (PIRs) which sense movement and turn on the backlight on the Joggler screens; indeed too a TTS voice font status talking to said individual in the room; getting a bit carried away talking in Italian to my wife to bug her.

Thanks, Evioulsyr!

That's the hub that a few of us here use. Be aware though that only port 4 of any hub will boot with Eric's bootloader - that's the one furthest from the end socket. You'll also need to either copy the contents of WITHHUB folder to the root of the EFI partition, or run the .cmd to do the same... I recall someone not being able to run the .cmd to copy the files unless in administrator mode, so maybe just copy the files and click OK if windows complains about anything.
