**BUILD 3 - Windows XP Professional SP3 (Plus Tablet PC)**
Re: **BUILD 3 - Windows XP Professional SP3 (Plus Tablet PC)
Post #1 is the current link, but it's not been updated or refreshed since december 2011. Still good to go, but you will need to update windows and some of the software with the latest versions.
Ethernet is a hit or miss affair and it comes down to luck of the draw with your hardware.
For the hub and memory stick, you're probably ok. For an unpowered 2.5" portable drive, you will either need the hub to be powered or run a cable out from the internal port. You might need that extra power to the hub if you want to add USB sound.
Clock screen saver is on there. On the Net, you have choice of a whole load of screensavers for XP and I might have included the crappy media center slide show one.
The squeeze client is A port of the Linux one. It's on the install. I think the squeeze server needs a tweak to get it to install. Have a search through this topic. I have a vague recollection of it being connected to Java....?
I think RDP should work the same as VNC, but I have no experience of that myself. uTorrent on the build is set up to auto load .torrent files placed in a shared folder, which might save you 'dialling' in to the Joggler. You will get a visual feedback that the torrent has loaded as the file name changes from .torrent to .LOADED.
The on board sound can be disabled completely.
Good luck, post here if the link is not working.

Re: **BUILD 3 - Windows XP Professional SP3 (Plus Tablet PC)
Thanks for the advice Mevi, unfortunately, the link works but the download does not. Is there any chance of a new link or is there another source for ths file?
Re: **BUILD 3 - Windows XP Professional SP3 (Plus Tablet PC)
I can post it on Hotfile in little pieces. Give me a couple of days. Not sure how long the file will remain up though.
Mevi's last build was a bit over 800Mb. That said I have split it to two main files and a little one (maybe). I will post the VHD and the IMG builds on Hotfile dot com.
You will need to join them and you can utilize 7 zip for that.
BTW Mevi; started a new build from scratch and I am seeing my issue is with drivers and the USBoot 2.14 program and coreboot. This is only related to booting from a USB SSD stick or card. If I use the multiprocessor manual booting it works just fine. If I let it go to default it appears to be shutting down the USB port as its booting from it. I don't know really what to make of it because I have another Joggler doing that just fine. Might just keep using the pata port as that is not an issue; trying to make a more plugnplay less invasive set up with coreboot.

That will be great, then I will download it asap before the links go down again.
Re: **BUILD 3 - Windows XP Professional SP3 (Plus Tablet PC)
Inzimam, did you see that I sent you a PM with private links to the XP builds. I keep those links off the forum as it's a PAYG service.
Pete, if hot file is just going to expire the links, I will keep looking for a better and more permanent host. In the meantime, I am linking forum members to my S3 bucket on request.

Pete, you can change the boot order of boot.ini from within windows. If you type msconfig.exe from windows run, it's in there on one of the tabs, from memory.

Re: **BUILD 3 - Windows XP Professional SP3 (Plus Tablet PC)
Thanks Mevi!
I do recall having issues with the EFI booting from the soldered on USB port until I used a USB hub which was odd to me as it worked just fine from the internal USB and external USB ports.
Yeah here I had a rapidshare account (some 4 years?) and cancelled it cuz Rapidshare really messed with their service making it worthless to me.
I also had tried Hotfile for a year and let it expire. I might though give it another go with Hotfile.
Dropbox is ok but really really slow. My Hotfile links haven't expired yet so I may be OK right now.
My Verizon and Comcast BB accounts only allow up to 1 Gb of storage. Basically worthless though for anything.
I could also allow FTP to one of my servers but that would be a hassle.

Mevi,
Worked with the edit of the boot.ini. Booting up now on my 3rd soldered USB port just fine now with USBoot 2.14. Geez; I am really getting old now...
Thank-you.
I also do have your IMG and VHD files posted on Hotfile (no links right now).

Re: **BUILD 3 - Windows XP Professional SP3 (Plus Tablet PC)
Or a Joggler running a Joggler FTP repository?
I think all the big host services expire links and Dropbox has a download limit. I already have a Joggler Dropbox with nothing in it. Just remembered Kim Dotcom's new Mega service. Will check that out too. What I really liked about Min.us was that I added the files to their service just by giving it the existing S3 URL. I didn't need to upload any of it.
If you post the links, I will add them to post #1. Thanks Pete.
Yesterday, I was going through my masses of browser bookmarks and found one for Dan's original XP. Ahhhh, memories. :')

Re: **BUILD 3 - Windows XP Professional SP3 (Plus Tablet PC)
Cheers for the link Mevi
I downloaded the. IMG.gz file, and re named it. IMG for an external HDD does that sound right?
First attempt to write it hasn't worked but maybe I did it wrong.
I did notice the HP utilities thing wouldn't format my whole HDD so after running it through that I had to do a standard format.
Any ideas

Re: **BUILD 3 - Windows XP Professional SP3 (Plus Tablet PC)
No, don't rename. Unzip it using 7zip or equivalent. The IMG format was requested by the forum users, plus it's been the standard way to distribute OS images on the forum.
If you are using windows img writer, you need to first launch it with a memory stick, e.g. G:\
Next, without quittng disk imager, pull the stick, no safe removal. Plug in your HDD, make sure it is mounted as g:\, or whatever. Then you can write the Img to the HDD. It will only write the 4GB of the two partitions, so use your favourite partition manager to expand the NTFS partition to fill the hdd.
The first build was VHD only for a long time, as it works so nicely for windows users. If you are able to download the converter linked in post #1, you can turn the img into a Vhd.

Re: **BUILD 3 - Windows XP Professional SP3 (Plus Tablet PC)
Ahh my mistake will try again tomorrow night , thanks for the help ,I didn't unzip , when I saw .img I thought that was it ooppps.
What would be best do you think , the image or vhd or are they much the same ?
I think win 32 0.3 you have to do the hot swap thing with but version 0.7 which I tried as well sees the hdd ok so no swapping needed , I used it to try out xbmcos on my new hdd and it worked fine

Re: **BUILD 3 - Windows XP Professional SP3 (Plus Tablet PC)
The IMG and VHD, aside from the packaging, are identical.
On windows 7 & 8 (Vista maybe?), you can natively mount the VHD in the storage management snap in and access it as though it were a physical drive. Google for a script or batch file that quickly automates that mounting. Browse it, copy files to and from it and use your favourite partition manager to resize, clone and manipulate the partitions onto whatever boot media you like. I forget which partition manager Dan uses, Virtual something, but he said his could use a VHD as a source to clone from.
Linux users might have that same level of convenience with IMG, I'm not sure though.
That starwind utility I use can convert between IMG, VHD so you don't need to wait for it to re-download.

Re: **BUILD 3 - Windows XP Professional SP3 (Plus Tablet PC)
Thx
Well success tonight yippee
Using a W7 32bit laptop
First I had to reformat my HDD using HP utilities then after that a normal format like you would a USB stick.
Used 7 zip to extract the image file as suggested.
Used win32 disc imager 0.7 to write the image (no hot swapping needed I can confirm:-) )
Used w7 own disk manager to extend the second partition to 593gb
Plugged it in and booted up no problem.
Running very nice Mevi love your build.
I then decided I needed my hub and plug in mini mouse to get the wireless settings right but shock, horror, after seeing my 3year old having fun with it the other day it was broke, never one to be beat I took it to bits and re soldered the tiny wire that had come loose and against all odds it worked
So with my HDD with xp on it plugged in to port 4 and my mouse in another I tried to boot but no good this time.
I remember a hub /no hub option in one of the Xp images but can't find it on here yet.
Also wondering if my other joggler might boot with a hub where this one won't .
Will report back

Re: **BUILD 3 - Windows XP Professional SP3 (Plus Tablet PC)
It might be that UAC on W7 is preventing the .cmd from writing to the root of the hdd. Simply copy the contents of the WITHHUB directory into the root, overwriting when prompted.... That's all the .cmd does. You might get a UAC warning, or it's maybe that UAC doesn't like the automated copying into the root.... Dunno.
Is your hub unpowered? Might also be a lack of milliamperes on the external USB port to run a HDD and a hub.
Note that the WITHHUB boot takes a bit longer. You can use the WITHHUB bootloader without a hub too.
