o2 app radio stations stopped working

I've been using my joggler with a minimum mods since they came out and its been great, but in recent weeks some of the radio stations in the o2 internet radio application have stopped working.

when I select the station, I immediately get a 'connection lost' error message.

This only seems to effect some stations, eg Radio 4

Is this a known issue ?

I'm guessing maybe the ip address for the individual station has changed ?

I couldn't find anything on the forum, but surely other people must be experiencing this ?

Can anyone help ?

Radio 4 working here for me. Do you get the message every time you try it or just sometimes?

Everytime... for about a month now :(

I've tried the obvious rebooting the unit etc.. weirdly some/most stations work fine, as does radio 2 / 3 etc

http://media.thelounge.com/joggler/radio/25.asx is the stream for radio 4.
I am using the openpeak skin so perhaps there is a difference if you are using the standard o2 skin.

Ok,i switched back to the o2 version and I also get the connection lost message. So the stream must no longer be correct.

Despite your comment, I can't get Radio 3 to work. The ones that don't work for me are R3, R4, 5 live sports extra and Asian Network. The Radio 7 button now plays Radio 4 Extra.

I have uploaded the openpeak version of the radio app to http://www.jpmcmenamin.co.uk/joggler/o2_radio.zip

If you have winscp
browse to openpeak/gui/apps/
rename the o2_radio directory o2_radio_old
unzip the new o2_radio file and copy into openpeak/gui/apps
reboot joggler

Hopefully that should work, if not just revert back to o2 version.

telnet instructions would be something like:

cd openpeak/gui/apps
mv o2_radio o2_radio_old
wget http://www.jpmcmenamin.co.uk/joggler/o2_radio.tar
tar xvf o2_radio.tar
rm o2_radio.tar
reboot

to revert back:

cd openpeak/gui/apps
rm -rf o2_radio/
mv o2_radio_old o2_radio
reboot

Thanks Yugo, I'll give that a go tonight.

--update--

well, tried to access my joggler, but cant telnet in... I suspect that when I re flashed it some months back, I never re-activated telnet etc..

Haven't really got time to dig out how to do that right now, so might be a few days before I can try your suggestions, but I will, and report back :)

Hi

Mine is the same. Radio 2 works fine. Radio 4 doesn't.

I think the joggler gets it's radio station info from:

URL: https://media.thelounge.com/joggler/data/jogContent.xml
Username: joggler
Password: nu3Et5abaphe13

Which I did by hand. The URL for radio 4 is the same as the one posted above and I also tested it in vlc on my pc and it works fine. So I'm not sure why it doesn't work on the joggler.

Hi All

I also have been seeing this problem and installed the original app based on yugo's post:
yugo wrote:I have uploaded the openpeak version of the radio app to http://www.jpmcmenamin.co.uk/joggler/o2_radio.zip

...
Thanks Yugo, that works again! I'm curious why this should make a difference though - what might o2/medialounge have changed??
gegs wrote:The Radio 7 button now plays Radio 4 Extra.
I had a look at this - this is just down to the contents of jogComment.xml, which hasn't been updated for the change from Radio7 to Radio 4 Extra.

It should be easy to edit this yourself, except that there doesn't seem to be a Radio4 Extra .png image file on the medialounge site.

I have created one based on an image on the BBS website and was going to try putting it (the .png file) on my joggler and changing the URL in the jogContent.xml to point to that.

Can anyone remind me of the 'strapline' for Radio4 extra (like Radio7 was 'unadulterated Entertainment')? Now that I want it, I can't find it...

Thanks

well, I finally had some time to play today too...

started with a total reinstall using the reflashing tool featured elsewhere on the forum, and here http://birdslikewires.co.uk/articles/jo ... sh#content

That included using the original o2 image from there... the reflash worked a treat, very simple, and easy... but still didnt fix the radio issues..

Then tried Yugo's suggestion, and it works !!!

No idea why it works, but it does, so thats the main thing :)

Big thanks to Yugo for the files and the idea :)

This is superb! It works faultlessly and I can live without Radio 4 Xtra.

My wife was lamenting the loss of some channels because she finds the Pure Lounge app easier to use than Squeezeplay; this will definitely cheer her up.

Isn't the Radio 7 icon available to you? This is 'actually' Radio 4 Extra now.

My updated jogContent.xml file pointing to a local copy of a Radio 4 Extra .png file works fine - I can upload the .png file etc. as an attachment if anyone is interested.

I wonder when jogContent.xml is downloaded? At some point I guess mine will be overwritten and I will have to do this again ;-(.

I didn't realise that Radio 7 had been re-branded to 4Xtra. I thought I'd got Radio 7 back again at the expense of 4Xtra.

Strange re-branding though; I listened to Radio 7 on occasion and it had a distinct market niche. I didn't listen to 4Xtra instead because I thought it would be too similar to Radio 4.

I'll leave the Radio 7 button to remind me of the difference and hope that they haven't screwed around too much with the content.

I'm a little confused about the Radio 7 being re-branded as 4Xtra. I know it is stated on the BBC website in a few places but I did check when putting my iPlayer app together and they were definately still different at the time.

And if you look at the 2 feeds

http://feeds.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/radio_four_extra/list/
http://feeds.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/bbc_7/list/

You will see that they are significanlty different as far as these are concerned.

Although I've just checked on the BBC iPlayer site and Radio7 has been removed.

Mind you,

http://www.bbc.co.uk/emp/10player.swf?p ... list/bbc_7

and

http://www.bbc.co.uk/emp/10player.swf?p ... four_extra

Still have different icons.

Hi there

I would be interested to know the reason for this; perhaps the BBC did a tryout before the launch?

Here are a couple of links about the launch/rebranding:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio7/seasons/Radio4Extra.shtml
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BBC_Radio_4_Extra

There do seem to be comments around about R4E being significantly worse that R7, but I'm afraind I have only been listening recently.

BTW, what do you mean when you say 'when putting my iPlayer app together'. Is this an iPlayer app for the Joggler? Would be interested in a link to this, I'm a bit out of the loop I'm afraid.

Interesting ,and thanks for the links to feeds.bbc.co.uk - I haven't seen those before.

All very curious...

jkn's Wikipedia link says about Radio 7, "The station was the second most listened to BBC digital radio station in the second quarter of 2010 ... with an audience of 949,000 and a 13.8% year-on-year rise in its audience".

I can't understand why they would re-brand the station in April 2011 and confuse listeners when it was obviously doing well as it was; but then again, we've all known bosses that couldn't leave things that worked alone. Some people are tempted to do stuff for the sake of it - just in case somebody higher up asks the painfully relevant question "What exactly do you do?"

hmm, spoke too soon...
I upgraded both of my Joggler's with yugo's download. One of these Joggler's has stock SW, the other has PNP SW on it. I modified jonContent.xml on both to incorporate the Radio4 extra feed.

Now (a week or so later), the PNP joggler won't receive *any* inernet radio stations at all! At least ,all the BBC ones seem to give a 'connection failed' error.

Interestingly this is not the same error as before - the error only occurs after the 'buffering... %' prompt is displayed for a while, and the buffer %age appears to go up to close to 100%, then drops to a low percentage, then rises a bit again. Then the error bx comes up.

The installation on the stock joggler still seems fine. I haven't yet checked the wireless connection but web access etc. seems fine. I will try to swap over the Jogglers shortly. Anyone got ny other thoughts?

Cheers
Jon N

I installed the openpeak one, and the same for me. All stations have stopped working.

The URLs in the xml file on the joggler still work however.

Very odd.
